Chapter 80: In Quest of Sustenance

This was the voice of the six-armed creature from the forest. Although the sound, transmitted through consciousness, was abnormally blurry, the extreme anger and pain left a deep impression on Qian Ye. Upon hearing it now, he instantly recognized it.

Qian Ye had no time to discern the source of the sound as the beast in front of him continued to transform, as if something within it was struggling to emerge. The massive wound left by Dongyue was also widening, indicating that something was trying to burst out from there.

No matter what was inside the beast, Qian Ye would not let it come out so easily. He held Dongyue in both hands and dashed under the beast, raising his sword to stab at its abdomen.

However, the moment Dongyue’s blade pierced the abdomen, Qian Ye felt something amiss and immediately withdrew. But he was still a step too slow; a hoof from the beast, like a flying hammer from the heavens, landed heavily on Qian Ye, sending him flying backward over a hundred meters.

At that moment, Carol’s lightning whip, like a venomous dragon, struck the beast’s wound. A large amount of lightning fire turned into electric spiders, crawling into the wound, causing the beast to roar in agony. The thing inside the beast also let out a shrill scream.

Suddenly, the beast emitted an extremely high-pitched screech, and its body snapped in two with a loud crack! From the broken body, a six-armed creature finally crawled out with great difficulty.

Its flesh was mangled, with no skin, making it look both disgusting and pitiful. Carol was stunned, but Qian Ye recognized this six-armed creature from the forest. At that time, its outer layer had already petrified, and after being forced to leave the stone chair, most of its skin had peeled off, and it had not yet recovered.

As soon as it was exposed to the air, its flesh began to bubble and exude a foul yellow liquid, as if it had been doused with strong acid. It was clear that the environment outside the forest was fatally toxic for it, which explained why it had stopped at the edge of the forest and did not continue to pursue. However, Qian Ye never expected it could hide inside another beast to reach the battlefield and command the army of beasts.

At this point, Qian Ye had used up both Primordial Guns, and his stamina was nearly depleted. Yet, he still took out Zangxin and aimed at the six-armed creature. The creature clearly remembered the gun, roaring in extreme anger while moving ghostly to avoid the barrel.

But it forgot about Carol. Her lightning whip silently wrapped around it several times, and then erupted with unprecedentedly terrifying electric fire. The blue lightning flames covered the entire body of the six-armed creature, mercilessly burning its flesh, almost instantly charring its surface!

The six-armed creature let out a bone-chilling, earth-shattering scream, and with its six arms, it grabbed the lightning whip and pulled hard. With a series of popping sounds, it actually tore Carol’s lightning whip into several pieces!

Carol’s face turned deathly pale, and she let out a muffled groan, spewing a mouthful of blood. She staggered backward, barely managing to stand, but her vital energy plummeted, clearly indicating a severe injury.

However, her full-power strike, hitting its weak spot, made the six-armed creature, already stripped of its skin and defenseless, suffer immensely. It swayed towards Carol, but after a few steps, its strength failed, and it collapsed to the ground, motionless.

Qian Ye appeared beside Carol, quickly supporting her, and asked, “How are you?”

Carol managed a weak smile, “I’m fine, just a minor injury. I’ll be alright after a day of rest. Is that thing dead?”

“After your full-power strike, how could it survive?”

“None of my business. My strike merely triggered its suppressed injuries. In the end, it died from your Primordial Gun.”

That was true. Qian Ye’s Primordial Gun targeted the essence of life, which could be temporarily suppressed but not eradicated. The six-armed creature, already severely injured from two shots, was further attacked by Carol’s lightning whip, causing its suppressed injuries to erupt, leading to its immediate death.

At this moment, the six-armed creature emitted a crackling sound, and a gray-black hue spread over its body, turning its flesh to stone at a visible rate. Qian Ye picked up the beast that had served as the host for the six-armed creature, while Carol grabbed the now-petrified six-armed creature, and they returned to the base.

Qian Ye promptly sent the bodies of the beast and the six-armed creature back to Yonglu, instructing Song Hui to organize a team to study them, and also ordered her to send a sample to Zhao Jundu in Qinlu.

From the information gathered, it was clear that the six-armed creature possessed a high level of intelligence and was the commander of the beast army. Studying it might be the key to unlocking the secrets of the new world. Though Qian Ye had established a relatively complete system in Yonglu, including research institutions, their capabilities were far from comparable to the Imperial Research Institute.

With the Evernight camp likely having already entered the new world, Qian Ye did not intend to keep his findings to himself and was willing to share them with the Empire. Of course, he would be selective about who he shared with; Zhao Jundu was trustworthy, but no one else.

After dealing with the six-armed creature’s body, Qian Ye organized two advance teams, each led by himself and Carol, to head towards the known forests.

Though the resources in the forests were uncertain, the sap of the sacred tree could replace the glands of the beasts, helping the tribes of Evernight adapt to the harsh new world. Controlling a sacred tree meant controlling a sizable army.

The first forest was limited in size, and the six-armed creature residing there had been killed, with no other signs of beasts. Carol led the team there. The second forest had three sacred trees, and although the six-armed creature there was also killed, there were at least numerous beast eggs and possibly more hibernating beasts, so Qian Ye led the team there.

When preparations were complete, Qian Ye set out with a convoy of dozens of heavy trucks. After half a day’s journey, they arrived outside the forest.

The forest was now filled with chaos and savagery, with the roars of beasts and the sounds of battles echoing. Without the six-armed creature as their commander, the beast army had reverted to instinctual actions, even turning on each other for territory.

Qian Ye signaled, and the convoy stopped a kilometer away from the forest. The warriors quickly deployed, unloading modular armor plates to construct a temporary defensive line. The cargo trucks carried small ship-mounted rapid-fire cannons, forming support points behind the line. In moments, a formidable defensive position appeared on the wilderness.

Once the position was ready, Qian Ye entered the forest alone. As soon as he stepped into the forest, he encountered several beast attacks. The beasts had indeed become feral, attacking living beings solely by instinct.

After traveling a bit further towards the center, Qian Ye estimated the distance and released his origin power. The Dawn Origin Fire was as blinding as the sun in this world, instantly rousing a large portion of the forest’s beasts!

Whether it was seen as a challenge or a threat, the entire forest boiled over, and countless beasts, big and small, rushed out from their hiding places, heading straight for Qian Ye!

The provocation was so effective that even Qian Ye was surprised. However, he was not there to see how many beasts he could kill alone. Seeing his plan work, he immediately turned and ran back to the defensive line.

A tide of beasts poured out of the forest, charging at the base. Qian Ye’s warriors were well-prepared and did not hesitate to use ammunition, unleashing a torrent of bullets at the beasts. The rapid-fire cannons fired relentlessly, weaving a net of fire, continuously reaping the lives of the beasts until the barrels were red-hot and forced to stop.

Before reaching the defensive line, the beast horde had already lost half its numbers. Qian Ye raised an eyebrow, preparing to use his domain and life force extraction to claim more lives. But before he could start, someone hugged him from behind.

It was Eska, who hastily said, “My lord, why must you do it yourself? Just watch!”

Without waiting for Qian Ye’s response, Eska turned and roared, “What are you waiting for! Charge!”

A dozen werewolf chieftains and shamans leaped out of the defensive line, howling as they charged into the beast horde. Behind them, two thousand werewolf warriors followed, launching a full-speed assault.

In a blink, the two forces collided. The ferocity of the werewolves was evident, with the chieftains’ towering bodies smashing into the beast horde, sending smaller beasts flying. The shamans unleashed various bizarre abilities, firing origin pistols wildly, widening the gaps created by the chieftains.

The werewolf warriors behind them simply plunged into the beast horde, engaging in their preferred close combat. Some, driven by madness, discarded their shields and axes, using their claws and fangs to tear into their opponents.

“My lord, I must join the battle. You stay here to secure the line, don’t come!” Eska said, rushing to the battlefield.

On the battlefield, he revealed his true fighting form, roaring as he charged into the beast horde, leaving a trail of blood and gore, cutting through to the center of the horde.

Qian Ye shook his head helplessly, looking back to see the human warriors staring in shock. These werewolves seemed to throw caution to the wind, ignoring their firepower advantage and choosing close combat. Especially after Qian Ye equipped them with full-body armor and heavy shields and axes, the werewolves went all out, charging into combat whenever they had the chance.

Qian Ye knew that Eska and the werewolves feared he would release the Dawn Domain and life force extraction, and even more so, the little Zhu Ji. Once Qian Ye’s combination attack was unleashed, the beasts within a hundred meters would be swept away, with the ones dying in the domain losing their vitality, their flesh charred and inedible. As for Zhu Ji, her breath would turn any area into a death zone, rendering both the beasts and the land uninhabitable.

Thus, the werewolves had developed this fighting habit, doing anything for food.
