Chapter 134: It Must Be You

The plight of the Werewolf Clan has inevitably become the focal point of discussions in Evernight. As one of the four great races, to this day, the werewolves’ strength far surpasses that of the other dark races.

Though they lack a Supreme from the Sacred Mountains, both the Wolf Sovereigns at the peak of the mountains and the Ancestor Wolf Elders are recognized as being more powerful than average Great Lords, close to the level of a Supreme. Especially, the Wolf Sovereign holds the fastest firing, most powerful gun among the Ten Famous Guns, the Storm, which even a Supreme would find extremely troublesome.

With a vast number of individuals and a multitude of strong ones, the werewolves control three continents.

Yet, during the opening of the New World, the werewolves were mercilessly abandoned, prompting much speculation. Some believe that the werewolves offended a certain Supreme or even all of them. Others argue that the great prophets saw a future decline for the werewolves.

None of these explanations is entirely convincing, but gradually, one theory gained more acceptance.

It suggests that within the New World lies an immense benefit, so great that even Supremes must lower themselves to compete for it, a benefit so significant that they are unwilling to share, hence the werewolves, lacking a Supreme, were cruelly cast aside to reduce their share.

While the werewolves’ plight is worthy of sympathy, the sudden surge of the blood clan’s power is equally surprising. Over the past century, the competition for the title of the top race in Evernight has intensified. The demonkin, acting with strength, often outdid the blood clan in the distribution of significant interests.

In recent decades, the contrast between the Great Lords of the two clans became stark. The demonkin, wielding the Eternal Flame of Deep Darkness, commanded a reputation and strength clearly above that of Great Lord Melendez. Even with the recent rise of Prince Harbus of the blood clan, the balance of power between the two clans remained unchanged.

As for Queen Lilith, though still indisputably the strongest, her long slumber meant she rarely appeared on the Sacred Mountain. This was the first time that, during the assembly of the Sacred Mountains, the Night Queen continuously made demands, pressing relentlessly.

The Demon Emperor and the Spider Queen retreated step by step, ultimately paying a heavy price, merely insisting that the blood clan follow the established strategy. Could this not imply that only the blood clan had a way to deal with the seemingly invincible Song Zining and Zhao Jundu?

Recently, no new genius has emerged in the blood clan.

As discussions delved deeper into the topic of young blood clan geniuses, a name suddenly caught the attention of the entire Evernight Council: Qian Ye.

Qian Ye’s defection from the Empire in the Battle of the Unfallen City and his subsequent journey to the neutral territories caused a sensation across the Empire. After all, a general died at his hands, a high-ranking official’s fall on one hand, and on the other, Qian Ye displayed extraordinary talent. For such a person to be driven out of the Empire was inexplicable.

However, the matter behind this may have been complex. The Empire issued a gag order, and surprisingly, the Evernight side did not spread it either. After some time, without further news, it faded from everyone’s memory. Now, it was brought up again because someone recalled that Qian Ye had once revealed a blood core, making him a genuine member of the blood clan.

This claim, however, was refuted. Qian Ye, with the Dawn Awakening, was well-known, and many dark race powerhouses had tasted defeat at his hands. Compared to Song Zining’s Earthly Splendor, the fiercer and purer Dawn Awakening was far more deadly. How could a bearer of the Dawn Awakening be a blood clan member?

The entire dark race of Evernight was abuzz with debate, but no conclusion was ever reached.

Qian Ye’s deeds were unearthed, and people were surprised to learn that this perceived young genius had already broken through the Heavenly Barrier, becoming a figure who held his ground, establishing a territory on Yong Continent and personally killing the Duke of Bones.

Although the Duke of Bones was a minor duke, and Qian Ye did not win in a one-on-one battle, the fact that he killed a duke spoke volumes.

It was said that even in the New World, Soza suffered a hidden loss to Qian Ye.

The more people talked, the more Qian Ye seemed like an unsolvable mystery.

There was, however, a sanctuary unaffected by the storm outside. At this moment, Yuetong sat on the edge of a cliff, overlooking a boundless sea of clouds. Here, the sky was high and the clouds thin, allowing one to forget the mundane.

Behind Yuetong, a middle-aged man with a scholarly appearance walked slowly. He appeared on the horizon, taking a few steps to reach Yuetong’s side, gazing at the sea of clouds with her.

After a moment, he sighed, “Ever since I was old enough to understand, I wondered what lay beneath this sea of clouds, making Origin Continent another holy land for our blood clan, sometimes even more important than Dusklight. To this day, I wonder if the end of the River of Blood is here, or on the seven highest continents. Alas, I cannot reach those seven continents, nor can I descend into this sea of clouds.”

Yuetong replied, “If the Great King of Azure cannot go there, then I certainly cannot. I am here just to look, not to venture down.”

The Great King of Azure said, “Good. This sea of clouds is almost irresistibly tempting for us blood clan, but none who dared to descend have returned. In the past, Blackwing, relying on his void flash, and his fearless nature, actually jumped in. But halfway, he regretted it and used void flash to escape. His divine wings turned black afterward. If not for this experience, he might have ascended the Sacred Mountain.”

“If he didn’t dare to jump, he would never have become the Blackwing King.”

“True. I searched many places before finding you here. Are you interested in the River of Blood?”

Yuetong shook her head, “No, I just find it quiet here.”

The Great King of Azure turned to look at an ancient castle standing nearby, “Indeed, with all the rumors swirling outside, you might not be happy. These rumors rarely reach here, though.”

“They have already.”

“You…?”

“It’s fine. Those who spout nonsense, I’ve already thrown them below.”

The Great King of Azure sighed, “You, ah… sigh…”

Yuetong said coolly, “I know that those who come here are either descendants of the ancients or geniuses of the clans. But to offend me based on that alone is to court death. If any great figure takes issue, let them come to me. I doubt they have the courage.”

The Great King of Azure said softly, “Why do you insist on this?”

“This body is too young, young enough to make people forget to show respect. Without any real accomplishments, I have to use this method to make a lasting impression. See, after throwing a few low-levels down, it’s much quieter here.”

“You still hold grudges.”

“Of course not.”

“We’ve been friends for over a thousand years. How could I not understand you?”

Yuetong said, “I’m not that old! I’ve just awakened my soul; I don’t remember many things from the past.”

The Great King of Azure, resigned, said, “You just said this body is too young… Alright, you’re always right.”

“Why have you come to me? Speak.”

The Great King of Azure breathed a sigh of relief, “You finally deigned to listen to me.”

“Have I ever stopped you from speaking?”

“If I started with the main topic, you would have chased me away,” the Great King of Azure said helplessly, “Our current situation is dire. The humans have reached the Dark Sun Valley and destroyed our base there.”

Yuetong replied, “Oh, what should I say? Not that our army is incompetent, but that the enemy is too cunning?”

The Great King of Azure coughed, “That, more or less, is the gist of it.”

“So, you still want me to fight?”

“There’s no one else.”

“On what grounds?”

“The demonkin and spider demons have agreed to halve the sacrifices our clan needs to make in the Dark Sun Valley, sharing the burden. You know, that’s millions of lives.”

“The Dark Sun Valley, hm, it should never have been explored.”

“We’ve paid too much already; we can’t retreat now.”

Yuetong said, “I don’t want to fight the humans; it would affect my control over this identity. The will of the little one is strong and troublesome. Solve it yourselves.”

The Great King of Azure, silent for a moment, said, “Does this body still have residual will?”

“Of course!”

The Great King of Azure sighed, “If that’s the case, would you consider someone else to persuade you?”

“It doesn’t matter who comes.”

“That person might be different.”

“Who?”

“Edward of the Pas Clan.”

Yuetong froze, then laughed coldly, “You should know the fate of anyone sent to persuade me.”

“I know, Her Majesty knows, and he knows.”

“As long as you know, send him. I’ll see what he has to say before he dies.”

The Great King of Azure nodded, “I’ll take my leave, then.”

“No need to see me off.”

The Great King of Azure sighed, “A thousand years ago, you were just as cold.”

“How would I know what I was like a thousand years ago?”

Seeing Yuetong unwilling to continue, the Great King of Azure shook his head and turned to leave. As he took a step, he hesitated and turned back, “Are you really…?”

“What?”

“You just said…?”

“What?” Yuetong looked confused.

The Great King of Azure said, “Never mind, I’ll ask you when the Dark Sun Valley matter is resolved.”

Yuetong frowned slightly, “The Dark Sun Valley won’t be resolved soon. You don’t have much time left; you should return to the Blood Pool to rest.”

The Great King of Azure smiled bitterly, “How can I rest now? With Queen Lilith and I away, look at what No-Light has done to our clan. The Dark Sun Valley is so important; I am willing to sacrifice some of my lifespan. At least, Her Majesty won’t have to worry so much.”

“You worry about too much.”

“Can’t be helped.”

Yuetong no longer advised, “What did you want to ask?”

“Nothing, it’s not important, it doesn’t matter if you don’t know.”

“Alright, as you wish.”

The Great King of Azure shook his head and floated away. Watching his retreating figure, Yuetong’s curiosity was piqued, wondering what he had left unasked.
