Chapter 239: The Passage of Time

Though Palace Master Chen had mentally prepared himself, upon hearing the words, “I’ve discovered the headquarters of the Demon God Cult,” his mind still rang with shock, leaving him momentarily dazed.

An unexpected, tremendous surprise!

He could hardly believe it at first, hesitating for several seconds before asking, “Xueying, you found the Demon God Cult’s headquarters? How did you find it? Are you certain it’s correct?”

“I was originally conducting a large-scale search across the entire mortal world when I suddenly discovered an underground fortress hidden beneath the earth, spanning five hundred miles,” Dongbo Xueying replied. “After a careful inspection, I can confirm that this is indeed the headquarters of the Demon God Cult!”

“How can you be certain?” Palace Master Chen pressed urgently.

“I found the High Priest! There are divine warriors from the Heavens within the underground fortress, even divine artifacts. Some of the magical formations inside are far more intricate than those in Blackwind Divine Palace!” Dongbo Xueying explained. “There are also vast resources and treasures inside, along with the Demon God’s magical wellspring, and many simplified books containing secret techniques of the Demon God Cult, including simplified versions of divine-level techniques.”

Palace Master Chen’s eyes grew brighter with each word.

Divine artifacts? Divine-level techniques? The Demon God’s magical wellspring? The High Priest? Divine warriors from the Heavens? All hidden within an underground fortress spanning five hundred miles?

“Hahahaha, this is wonderful, truly wonderful!” Palace Master Chen’s voice trembled with excitement as he paced back and forth in the courtyard, overwhelmed with joy. “How many years has it been? Our Xia Clan has endured for countless ages, yet the Demon God Cult has remained hidden in darkness! All this time, we’ve never been able to find their headquarters!”

“Xueying, you truly are the greatest prodigy in the history of our Xia Clan!” Palace Master Chen gazed at Dongbo Xueying. “If we destroy the Demon God Cult’s headquarters, our internal conflicts will be drastically reduced. Hahahaha, this is far more important than slaying five demon generals!”

Dongbo Xueying nodded.

In every era, the Demon God Cult had possessed half-divine experts—more than one, in fact. And these half-divine beings were all Xia Clan cultivators who had defected!

This weakened the Xia Clan’s strength and caused internal strife and losses. These hidden traitors, when they suddenly struck, could cause far more destruction than even a demon general. And this wasn’t just a problem of one era—it had been happening generation after generation!

“The Demon God’s magical wellspring is the most important!” Palace Master Chen’s eyes gleamed with excitement. “Destroy that wellspring and seize all the treasures within the Demon God Cult’s headquarters. Their accumulated strength over countless ages will be lost in one fell swoop, and the Demon God Cult will be ninety percent destroyed. Without the wellspring to supply divine energy, the Demon God won’t be able to manifest divine miracles or cultivate new prodigies!”

“Mm.” Dongbo Xueying nodded.

“Oh, and the traitors! The ones who defected to the Demon God Cult must be eliminated,” Palace Master Chen continued urgently. “Even if we destroy the headquarters, if these traitors remain alive, they will surely try to rebuild the Demon God Cult! Although without the wellspring and their accumulated strength, their threat will be minimal. But who knows, perhaps through generations of survival and struggle, the Demon God Cult might rise again!”

Dongbo Xueying nodded. “That’s exactly what I was thinking. Right now, I am secretly investigating the Demon God Cult’s headquarters, waiting patiently for the right moment. I’ve already identified the High Priest and one other cultivator.”

“Who? Who is the High Priest?” Palace Master Chen asked eagerly.

He was filled with curiosity.

Who was this highest-ranking figure in the Demon God Cult?

“Xi Yun!” Dongbo Xueying said solemnly.

“Brother Xi Yun?” Palace Master Chen couldn’t quite believe it. He had been a close friend, known for his hatred of evil.

“This is the scene of his cultivation,” Dongbo Xueying said, lightly waving his hand as the power of the heavens and earth formed a projection in midair, displaying what he had previously witnessed. In the scene, Xi Yun, clad in red robes with red eyebrows, began to cultivate. Layers of scale-like armor appeared on his body, and two sharp horns grew from his head. The aura in the scene suddenly became vastly more oppressive and sinister.

“This… this…” Palace Master Chen inhaled deeply. Seeing this, he was ninety percent convinced, though without witnessing it with his own eyes, he still hesitated to fully believe. If it had been any ordinary cultivator making such a claim, he would have been even more suspicious.

“When the time comes to attack the Demon God Cult’s headquarters, everything will be revealed!” Dongbo Xueying said.

“Mm, who else?” Palace Master Chen pressed.

“There’s also Situ Hong!” Dongbo Xueying said. “Situ Hong is also a traitor. My good friend, Disciple Puyang, was framed by him and captured by the Demon God Cult. He’s still being tortured there.”

“Is the young Puyang still alive?” Palace Master Chen was surprised.

“He is! He’s being held captive in the Demon God Cult’s headquarters. I haven’t acted yet because I fear it might alert them,” Dongbo Xueying explained. “It’s better to let Puyang suffer a little longer for now. I’ll continue my investigation and not act in haste.”

“Good, you’re doing the right thing,” Palace Master Chen said. “Keep investigating. The more traitors we uncover, the better. When the time is right, we’ll strike all at once!”

Dongbo Xueying nodded. “I understand!”

“Xueying, what you’re doing now will benefit generations of our Xia Clan,” Palace Master Chen said. “So for now, you must bear the burden. And be careful yourself!”

After their meeting, Palace Master Chen began making preparations for the upcoming “Hunt of the Demon Generals” and, even more importantly, the “Eradication of the Demon God Cult’s Headquarters.” He began gathering the Xia Clan’s hidden treasures, preparing them in advance so that when the time came, the half-divine warriors could be summoned to act at once.

Meanwhile, Dongbo Xueying continued his arduous efforts.

His Douqi clone went to monitor the headquarters of the Demon God Cult. Since it was merely basic surveillance, the clone expended minimal energy and could be sustained for half a year or longer.

As for his main body, it continued the exhausting task of flying across the world, investigating ceaselessly.

Five months into the investigation.

“Hmm?” Within the Void Realm, Dongbo Xueying’s gaze pierced through the earth, locking onto a buried warship. Though several demons lurked within its metallic husk, his attention never wavered from the crimson-scaled enchantress—a Succubus of staggering power, her very presence warping the air with primal allure.

“The Crimson-Armored Meimo, one of the Five Demon Generals!” Dongbo Xueying’s pupils narrowed, a slight smirk forming on his lips. “Good, the first demon general!”

According to Xia Clan intelligence, the Crimson-Armored Meimo was among the weaker of the Five Demon Generals, with power roughly equivalent to a mid-tier half-divine warrior. Naturally, Xia Clan half-divine warriors were always equipped with divine artifacts.

“Demons rely more on their bloodline gifts and don’t have particularly high cultivation realms. This Crimson-Armored Meimo—her expression, her gaze, her aura… hasn’t changed at all. She hasn’t detected me,” Dongbo Xueying noted with satisfaction, which was what he had expected. He didn’t believe this Meimo could match the cultivation realm of Master Sikong Yang.

Whoosh!

Dongbo Xueying didn’t slow down, speeding away to continue his investigation.

Eleven months into the investigation.

“It’s him!”

In the Void Realm, Dongbo Xueying gazed at a warship hidden deep within a distant volcano. Inside the warship were a group of demons, the most prominent being a thin, purple-armored demon. This demon general had once sent a magical clone to kill Dongbo Xueying, but at the time, Dongbo had hidden his strength and not acted—instead, the armored guardian had intervened.

“His power is high. According to Xia Clan intelligence, this Purple-Armored Demon should be a match for Mountain Master He!” Dongbo Xueying mused. “He’s among the top-tier half-divine warriors. But looking at his expression…”

The thin, purple-armored demon was sitting cross-legged, dark magical energy swirling around him. His gaunt face was expressionless as he meditated.

“His aura and expression haven’t changed at all. He must not have detected me either,” Dongbo Xueying sighed in relief.

Of the Five Demon Generals, according to intelligence, the strongest were this Purple-Armored Demon and the most domineering one—a towering, ice-blue demon.

Whoosh! Dongbo Xueying continued flying, speeding off to investigate further. His speed was incredible, covering hundreds of miles in an instant. Though the Xia Clan’s world was vast, he could circle it several times in a single day.

One year and three months into the investigation.

“Wow,” Dongbo Xueying muttered in the Void Realm, watching the massive demon general lying in the warship, snoring loudly. “How big! Nearly a thousand feet tall!”

Nearly a thousand feet tall—it was like a mountain.

“No wonder he’s called the Mountain Demon,” Dongbo Xueying shook his head. This demon general was incredibly strong, but according to Xia Clan intelligence, he was only ranked third among the half-divine warriors. Though his demonic body was mighty, his cultivation realm was ultimately too weak.

“He’s weak in cultivation, making him the least dangerous one,” Dongbo Xueying smiled. The Mountain Demon continued snoring, completely unaware of the observation from the Void Realm.

Two years and one month had passed. On a snow-white beach in the southern, ocean-facing region, the sand was pristine and deserted.

Clad in black robes, Dongbo Xueying was lying there, relaxing with a cup of fruit wine.

“Jing Qiu,” Dongbo Xueying communicated with You Jing Qiu through his communication ring. Every day, he exchanged messages with You Jing Qiu and Palace Master Chen to share intelligence, since communication was impossible within the Void Realm.

“Hahahaha, I’m in a great mood today.”

“It’s still early. It might take a few more years. How’s everything back home? Anything happening?” Dongbo Xueying sent.

Today, he had completed a full survey of the Xia Clan’s landmass, locating three of the Five Demon Generals. Two remained undiscovered, likely hiding deep beneath the ocean.

After chatting with Jing Qiu for a while, he briefly updated Palace Master Chen:

“I’ve finished surveying the land. I’ve found three demon generals. I just checked again—they’re all still in their original locations underground, completely unaware of my surveillance. No more time to chat—I’m heading to the ocean now!”

He stood up, stowing away his fruit wine.

With a single step, Dongbo Xueying’s figure twisted and vanished. In the Void Realm, he transformed into a streak of light, instantly diving into the depths of the vast ocean…
