“The Lord of Starlight should know that I have countless avatars. What do I have to fear from being implicated?” Dongbo Xueying laughed.
Upon hearing this, the Lord of Starlight was momentarily stunned before bursting into laughter. “Indeed, Emperor Feixue, with your countless avatars, if you wish to know, I shall explain in detail. You must be aware that within the Broken Tooth Mountain Range, our indigenous tribes have two supreme rulers.”
Dongbo Xueying nodded.
Among the five supreme rulers, three hail from the Deathblight Clan, while two belong to the indigenous tribes. It is said that all five possess unfathomable power—even figures like the Xia Emperor and the Undying Nether Emperor would perish before them.
“The two supreme rulers have divided the vast territories of the indigenous tribes in the Broken Tooth Mountain Range, each ruling over their respective domains,” the Lord of Starlight continued. “Our Starlight World also falls under the rule of the Supreme Haogu.”
“Originally, Supreme Haogu had five Great Emperors under his command, each immensely powerful, roughly equivalent to the lower-tiered Hunyuan lifeforms known as the ‘Eight Great Sages.’ Though they lack the heaven-defying survival abilities of true Hunyuan lifeforms, their strength is only slightly inferior to that of a supreme ruler,” the Lord of Starlight explained. “The relationship between the supreme ruler and these emperors is… delicate.”
Dongbo Xueying nodded.
With only a slight gap in power between the five Great Emperors and Supreme Haogu, the latter’s authority naturally lacks overwhelming dominance.
“Supreme Haogu remains aloof, solely focused on ascending to true Hunyuan lifeform status, leaving mundane affairs to the five Great Emperors. However, not long ago, Emperor Chenyao perished!” the Lord of Starlight said gravely. “The territories once ruled by Emperor Chenyao became the subject of a wager—one presided over by Supreme Haogu himself. In the end, the Northern River Emperor defeated the other three, and Chenyao’s former domain fell under his rule. Our Starlight World, along with the Bloodflame World and many others, were originally part of Chenyao’s dominion.”
“Under Emperor Chenyao’s rule, we enjoyed great freedom and ease.”
“But the Northern River Emperor is tyrannical and ruthless. He seeks only to enslave us, forcing us to fight and die for him,” the Lord of Starlight sneered. “The Northern River Emperor is now the strongest among the four remaining emperors. Even Supreme Haogu turns a blind eye to his actions. We have no choice but to resist on our own. If they wish to annihilate our Starlight World, they will pay dearly in blood.”
“Though, to be honest, given the Northern River Emperor’s nature, he likely cares little for the lives of his subordinates,” the Lord of Starlight added with a faint shake of his head.
Beside him, his wife, daughter, and the two elders remained silent.
The shadow of the Northern River Emperor loomed over the entire Starlight World. Everyone knew how futile it was to hope he would abandon his conquest.
“I understand,” Dongbo Xueying said softly.
In his homeworld, the Sacred Master could enslave countless lives through soul control. The Destruction Demon Emperor, Jun Di, sought the blessings of the supreme laws by committing acts of annihilation.
For the sake of their own paths, many powerhouses cared nothing for other lives—even those of their own kind!
To the indigenous tribes, the cultivators of the Heart Realm Continent were no different—a single faction, the “Cultivator Clan.” Yet even among them, slaughter ran rampant. The Undying Nether Emperor had once attempted to sacrifice fifteen nations in a single ritual.
“To wreak havoc upon countless lives for personal gain—another demon!” Dongbo Xueying murmured, his eyes glinting coldly.
The Lord of Starlight flinched at his words, while the princess’s eyes brightened.
They all knew Dongbo Xueying’s temperament—how he had once stood alone against all the demons of the Heart Realm Continent to uphold justice.
“Brother Feixue!” The Lord of Starlight hastily grasped Dongbo Xueying’s hand. “Do not act recklessly.”
“Worry not. I know my limits,” Dongbo Xueying reassured him with a smile.
“Indeed, one must act within their means,” the Lord of Starlight sighed. “But resisting the Northern River Emperor is beyond ours. We can only delay the inevitable. Many worlds in Chenyao’s former domain are rebelling. Perhaps, given time, things will change.”
…
The welcoming feast had barely reached its midpoint when—
**BOOM!**
A violent tremor shook the air.
“They’re attacking again?” The Lord of Starlight’s expression darkened. “Brother Feixue, please remain here.”
“Let’s go!”
With that, he and the two elders vanished in a flash.
Puzzled, Dongbo Xueying rose and followed.
The Starlight Clan’s capital was not large, as their population paled in comparison to cultivators. Outside one of the city gates, massive ships hovered in the sky, their decks crowded with foreign warriors gazing down upon the city.
“Starlight, who was that white-robed youth who arrived earlier?” A grotesque, crimson-skinned man with fiery hair bellowed from one of the ships. “I sensed the spatial fluctuations of a Great Void Transference—someone entered your capital! After being besieged for so long, who dares to interfere?”
“Fire Maggot, who enters my Starlight Clan is none of your concern!” the Lord of Starlight roared back. Behind him stood nine elders and a host of elite warriors.
“Hmph! The Northern River Emperor has already promised that once the Starlight World falls, it shall belong to my Fire Maggot Clan. We’ve seized ninety-nine percent of it—of course I have the right to ask!” The ugly man waved his hand. “Since you’re so foolish… attack! Break through their defenses!”
**”Yes!”**
Fifteen figures surged forward—fiery-skinned warriors, lightning-wreathed phantoms, serpent-tailed humanoids, eight-armed giants, and three-eyed beings.
The elite forces of five clans joined the assault.
“Charge!”
“They’re at it again!”
“Kill!”
Led by the nine elders, the Starlight Clan’s warriors rushed out to meet them. Battle formations took shape as the two sides clashed in a frenzy.
**BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!**
The heavens trembled.
The sheer scale of the battle surpassed even the might of invincible existences.
The Lord of Starlight watched coldly, not daring to intervene—for the five clan leaders had yet to make their move. Fortunately, on home ground, he could draw upon his clan’s collective strength, giving him a slight edge.
“Send in the next wave!” A serpent-tailed woman commanded.
Another squad joined the fray, tipping the scales in the five clans’ favor.
**BOOM!**
Suddenly, the radiance of the Starlight capital converged upon the nine elders and their warriors.
“Madmen,” the Lord of Starlight seethed. Every large-scale assault ended only after both sides suffered losses. Under the Northern River Emperor’s rule, these clans thrived on the law of the jungle—perhaps such battles were their way of culling the weak.
Of the Starlight Clan’s original eighteen elders, only half remained.
“Mother…”
The princess and her mother watched anxiously from afar.
So did countless other clansmen, their hearts gripped by fear. The warriors fighting were their clan’s mightiest. The ordinary clansmen were far weaker—if their leaders fell, they would be slaughtered without resistance.
“Who will save us?”
“When will this nightmare end?”
The powerless masses could only await their fate.
…
“Hmm?”
Dongbo Xueying, who had been observing quietly, frowned. “This won’t do.”
One of the Starlight elders was gravely injured, on the verge of collapse—yet the Lord of Starlight still held back, wary of provoking the five clan leaders into an all-out war.
But the Lord of Starlight had aided him in his time of need.
**”Hah.”**
With a thought, Dongbo Xueying unleashed a vast illusionary realm, enveloping the battling forces.
**Thud. Thud. Thud.**
Warriors on both sides froze, their eyes glazing over as they collapsed.
“What…?” The Lord of Starlight, his family, and the entire clan stared in shock.
So did the five clans’ forces aboard the distant ships.
**”Whoosh.” “Whoosh.”**
Another thought, and Dongbo Xueying teleported the unconscious combatants into the city—the Starlight warriors awakening, while their foes remained trapped in illusions.
“Lord of Starlight, imprison these five clans’ warriors for now,” Dongbo Xueying said calmly. “No need for excessive cruelty. They are but pawns following orders.”
Silence fell.
Every clansman of the Starlight World, every warrior on the enemy ships—all turned disbelieving eyes toward the white-robed youth.
“Brother Feixue is merciful. I shall not harm them either,” the Lord of Starlight declared, his voice ringing with newfound vigor. His despair had shattered, replaced by surging hope. “Lock them away. As my brother says—spare their lives. They are mere soldiers.”
