Chapter 70: The Ambush

In the twilight of the night, five figures, all disciples of the Azure Ethereal Conclave, soared through the air, their magical treasures radiating a faint light. Their speed was so swift that within moments, they could see the edge of the forest, and beyond it, the vast, dark sea.

The wind from the sea carried with it long, mournful howls, echoing through the night.

Their spirits lifted, and they were about to accelerate and leave the dark forest when suddenly, a beam of dark red light shot out from the shadows, striking He Dazhi, who was flying in the middle, with incredible speed.

He Dazhi let out a muffled groan, and his body swayed, falling from the sky. Song Daren and the others were shocked, but by the time they had flown far ahead, they hastily turned back. Zhang Xiaofan and Tian Ling’er, following behind, also rushed to He Dazhi’s aid.

Among them, Du Bishu was the closest to He Dazhi and reacted the fastest. He abruptly stopped, landing beside He Dazhi and scanning the surroundings. “Fourth Senior Brother, are you alright?” he asked urgently.

He Dazhi, drenched in cold sweat, rasped, “Be careful, this demon’s magic is formidable…”

Before he could finish, another beam of dark red light shot from the darkness. Du Bishu frowned, stepping in front of He Dazhi and invoking his magic. The three peculiar dice flew out, meeting the red light head-on.

From the darkness, a voice exclaimed, clearly surprised, but not by Du Bishu’s skill, rather by the unusual shape of the treasure. The red light, undeterred, surged forward.

The moment the two forces collided, Du Bishu’s body jolted. The evil energy from the red light seemed to be transmitted to his treasure, and there was a subtle, threatening force aimed at him.

Du Bishu was taken aback. He had never seen such demonic magic before. Just as he was unsure what to do, Song Daren, Tian Ling’er, and the others arrived. Zhang Xiaofan, following behind, recognized the red light. It was the “Crimson Demon Eye” of the old demon from the Blood Sucking Altar on Dead Spirit Abyss.

With a few mocking laughs, several figures emerged from the darkness, led by Nian Lao Da, the leader of the Blood Sucking Altar. On his face, a crimson eye glowed ominously, but it had now receded. Behind him, the beautiful woman, Liu Hao, and the Wild Dog Daoist were present, but the young Lin Feng was missing.

Zhang Xiaofan, having encountered these people multiple times, recognized them instantly, especially the Wild Dog Daoist, who had brought the Blood Sucking Old Demon, causing Zhang Xiaofan much trouble. But now, the Wild Dog Daoist was bruised and battered, likely from being thrown into the dense forest by the old demon.

The Blood Sucking Altar was now weak, assigned to patrol the edge of the forest while the major factions of the Demon Sect and the righteous sects battled. They were eager to seize any opportunity to capture these Azure Ethereal Conclave disciples and elevate their status within the Demon Sect.

The Wild Dog Daoist, who was already in a foul mood, saw the familiar Azure Ethereal Conclave disciple and realized that the boy was mockingly looking at him. Filled with anger, he summoned his fang treasure and attacked Zhang Xiaofan.

Nian Lao Da, emboldened by the initial success, was about to say something arrogant, but the Wild Dog Daoist had already rushed forward. Nian Lao Da, caught off guard, swallowed his words and almost choked, growing even more irritated.

Song Daren quickly flew to He Dazhi’s side, landing and examining him. He Dazhi, having been caught off guard, was now under the influence of the evil energy and unable to fight. Fortunately, his life was not in immediate danger.

Just then, a dog-faced demon rushed towards them. Zhang Xiaofan, summoning his treasure, clashed with the Wild Dog Daoist, and the battle began in earnest.

From a distance, Nian Lao Da, recognizing the strange stick Zhang Xiaofan wielded, grew anxious. He recalled the day at the Dead Spirit Abyss when his Crimson Demon Eye was no match for this boy.

As the battle continued, the Wild Dog Daoist and Zhang Xiaofan exchanged blows. The Wild Dog Daoist was increasingly alarmed by Zhang Xiaofan’s improved skills. The strange, glowing stick in Zhang Xiaofan’s hand, though ugly, was powerful and managed to repel his attacks.

Each time the Wild Dog Daoist’s fangs clashed with the stick, the blue-black orb at the tip of the stick emitted a dark, devouring energy, drawing in the Wild Dog Daoist’s power. The Wild Dog Daoist, remembering the unfortunate Jiang Lao San, cursed the righteousness of the younger generation.

Nian Lao Da, seeing the dire situation, gestured to the beautiful woman and Liu Hao. They moved to assist, while Song Daren and Tian Ling’er met them. Song Daren, despite his strength, was struggling against the evil energy from the Crimson Demon Eye, and he realized the demon’s power was formidable.

Just as the situation was turning dire for Zhang Xiaofan, a flash of blue light appeared, illuminating the area. Lu Xueqi, riding her Celestial Sword Tiayah, arrived with a fierce determination. Her cold eyes reflected the blue flame of the sword, and she exuded an intense, unyielding aura.

The Wild Dog Daoist and Liu Hao, startled, tried to block the blue sword, but were forced back. Lu Xueqi, standing beside Zhang Xiaofan, looked pale, likely from the impact of the clash.

“Thank you,” Zhang Xiaofan said, his heart racing.

Lu Xueqi shook her head. “When I was in peril at the Dead Spirit Abyss, you saved me. There’s no need for thanks.”

Zhang Xiaofan, moved by her words, nodded silently. Lu Xueqi smiled, and her smile was like a gentle breeze in the falling leaves, melting the frost in the night.

Zhang Xiaofan, shaking off the moment, turned to join the battle against Nian Lao Da. Lu Xueqi, standing behind him, took on the Wild Dog Daoist and Liu Hao, who were now at a disadvantage.

The tide of battle shifted. Nian Lao Da, seeing Zhang Xiaofan join, felt a sinking feeling. Zhang Xiaofan, using his stick, blocked several beams of red light, seemingly unaffected by the evil energy. This allowed Song Daren and Du Bishu to attack Nian Lao Da, forcing him to retreat.

Nian Lao Da, desperate, ordered a retreat. With a roar, the Crimson Demon Eye unleashed several beams of red light, and in the confusion, the Blood Sucking Altar members fled.

Lu Xueqi, ignoring the call to stop, pursued them. Zhang Xiaofan, startled, followed. The blue light of the Celestial Sword flashed, chasing the fleeing demons. The Wild Dog Daoist, sensing the cold wind, screamed for help.

Nian Lao Da, seeing the white light from the forest, was stunned. A white flower, ethereal and radiant, appeared, and the White Jade Hand, delicate and snow-white, reached out to catch it.

Zhang Xiaefan, watching the scene, felt his heart skip a beat. From the darkness, Bi Yao, the daughter of the Demon Sect, stepped out, her eyes fixed on Zhang Xiaofan and then on Lu Xueqi.

Lu Xueqi, not backing down, locked eyes with Bi Yao. The atmosphere, once tense and charged, suddenly fell silent, filled with a subtle, awkward tension.

Zhang Xiaofan, looking between Bi Yao and Lu Xueqi, felt a dryness in his throat. Tian Ling’er, noticing the strange silence, asked, “Xiaofan, what’s going on?”

Startled, Zhang Xiaofan, realizing the danger, urged, “We need to leave. There are too many Demon Sect members on this island.”

A cold, angry huff came from Bi Yao. Zhang Xiaofan, not daring to look at her, turned and retreated. Lu Xueqi, after a final glance at Bi Yao, followed Tian Ling’er back, and Song Daren helped the injured He Dazhi.

“We must go,” Song Daren said, leading the way toward the sea.

As they departed, the Wild Dog Daoist, restrained by Nian Lao Da, watched helplessly. Bi Yao, unmoving, watched them leave, her presence a silent, unspoken command.

In the distance, a long, powerful howl echoed, unlike any they had heard before. Thunder rumbled from the depths of the sea. Bi Yao, standing still, felt a drop of rain on her face. The wind began to blow, and the rain started to fall.
