Chapter 92: The Sable Sparrow

In the dead of night, an abrupt change swept through the darkness. The Longevity Sect disciples, caught off guard, were momentarily stunned and could not react in time.

In that fleeting moment, the righteous cultivators who had long been prepared sprang into action, each summoning their mystical treasures and launching themselves into battle. With their hearts set on victory, they held a significant advantage. Moreover, these disciples of the righteous path were none other than the finest from their respective sects. Though they might not match the cultivation of someone like Jade Sun Immortal, they easily overpowered the ordinary sect members.

In an instant, they descended upon the enemy like tigers among sheep. The righteous and demonic paths, eternal enemies, showed no mercy. In the dark night, all manner of light flickered chaotically, accompanied by relentless screams and the pungent smell of blood, which soon filled the swampy air.

At the forefront of the luminous fray was a blinding emerald glow—the Dragon Slaying Sword wielded by Lin Jingyu, a disciple of Azure Ethereal Conclave’s Dragon Peak.

This young man, who had never before displayed his full potential, now shone brilliantly. The Dragon Slaying Sword roared as its brilliant green light surged to the heavens, enveloping its wielder. Without a second thought, Lin Jingyu plunged headlong into the mass of Longevity Sect disciples.

He was a blinding streak of light in the night, his eyes cold, yet with a fiery passion deep within, as if yearning for the spilling of blood beneath the blade’s icy gleam.

The leading Longevity Sect members, bathed in the emerald glow, were reduced to gory rain, splattering across the ground.

Amidst the chaos, cries and clashes filled the air, but Lin Jingyu paid no heed to the foes closing in from behind. He pressed forward, charging towards the densest cluster of enemies, slicing through them with unyielding ferocity. Blood and flesh flew wherever he passed. Soon, other righteous disciples joined the fray, wielding their own treasures and clashing with the Longevity Sect disciples.

Even amidst the mayhem, Xiao Yicai was shaken by Lin Jingyu’s display and called out, “Junior Brother Lin, be careful…”

But Lin Jingyu seemed deaf to the warning. No longer the inexperienced youth of Dragon Peak, he now embodied a slayer of demons, with the Dragon Slaying Sword in hand!

Countless Longevity Sect members swarmed around him, yet he did not look back. His sword flickered in the night, drenched in blood, staining his clothes.

Gradually, as more Longevity Sect members pursued him, those in front scattered in terror, unable to stand against this fearsome force.

Until, from the depths of the darkness, came a shrill, piercing sound, and a flash of white light. A spinning circular object descended from the sky, aimed directly at Lin Jingyu’s head.

Lin Jingyu cried out. The Dragon Slaying Sword, which had been slaughtering enemies, flew back to his hand. With a swift motion, he thrust it upwards, and a blinding emerald light surged forth, lifting him into the air. However, the mysterious circular object in the sky, emitting alternating black and white light, relentlessly pressed down, defying the brilliant emerald glow.

For the first time, Lin Jingyu’s expression changed, recognizing the emergence of a true expert from the Longevity Sect. Despite its humble appearance, this unknown treasure ignored the sharpness of the Dragon Slaying Sword, pressing down with overwhelming force.

Lin Jingyu’s face turned pale under the pressure. With a mighty roar, he propelled himself backward. Moments later, the circular object struck the ground where he had stood, creating a gaping hole, evidence of the attacker’s immense fury.

As Lin Jingyu leapt back, fellow disciples of Azure Ethereal Conclave rushed to his aid. Yet, having charged recklessly into the enemy, he found himself surrounded. Before he could steady himself, three or four blades sliced into his body, spraying blood like vivid blossoms, drenching his robes. Lin Jingyu’s eyes twitched, but there was no sign of fear. The emerald light of the Dragon Slaying Sword, bathed in his own blood, grew even more dazzling, swirling around him. Cries of pain rose as three or four Longevity Sect disciples staggered back, severed limbs and blood marking their doom.

Everyone was in awe of this young warrior’s bravery.

Soon, more righteous disciples joined the fray, forcing the Longevity Sect to retreat. As the dust settled, Jade Sun Immortal appeared, his face twisted with malevolence, a far cry from his usual serene demeanor.

The intense battle gradually subsided. The Longevity Sect members gathered behind Jade Sun, while the young righteous disciples regrouped. At the forefront, Xiao Yicai, Fayiang, and Li Xun stood together. Wen Min from Little Bamboo Peak approached to help Lin Jingyu bandage his wounds, softly admonishing, “Young man, do you not value your life?”

Though they had only met briefly on Heaven Reaching Peak, Lin Jingyu was taken aback by her sudden kindness. Over the past ten years, he had honed his skills under the tutelage of a mysterious elder, emerging as a formidable force. Today, his performance left everyone in awe.

But faced with Wen Min’s question, Lin Jingyu was at a loss for words. Wen Min, known for her kind heart, quickly wrapped his wounds, urging, “There will be more fighting ahead. Be careful.”

Lin Jingyu felt a warm surge of gratitude and nodded, “Thank you, Senior Sister.”

Wen Min smiled, stepping aside to stand beside Lu Xueqi, who glanced at Lin Jingyu, her expression unreadable, yet her eyes revealing a glimmer.

Jade Sun, his face stern, gripped the Yin-Yang Mirror with his remaining hand, the veins in his arm standing out.

This surprise attack on the righteous path had backfired, resulting in the loss of a third of the Longevity Sect’s members. The righteous disciples, on the other hand, suffered minimal casualties, with Lin Jingyu being the most severely injured.

Li Xun, gazing at the retreating Longevity Sect, praised Xiao Yicai, “Senior Brother Xiao, truly a master strategist!”

Xiao Yicai smiled modestly, “It was merely a stroke of luck. We will need your guidance in the future, Senior Brother Li.”

Li Xun, now fully aware of Xiao Yicai’s capabilities, nodded, “I shall not hold back.”

Fayiang’s gaze lingered on the wounded Lin Jingyu, considering offering words of comfort, but he restrained himself. Since Azure Ethereal Conclave and Tianyin Temple had joined forces, their relationship had been amicable, but Lin Jingyu’s cold attitude towards the temple’s monks was well understood. The monks, in turn, avoided him.

Seeing Lin Jingyu’s injury, Fayiang still felt some concern. He turned to Xiao Yicai, “Senior Brother Xiao, is Junior Brother Lin’s injury serious?”

Xiao Yicai, seeing Wen Min tend to Lin Jingyu, glanced at her. She shook her head slightly, and Xiao Yicai replied, “Junior Brother Lin will be fine. No need to worry, Senior Brother Fayiang.”

Fayiang bowed respectfully, chanting a Buddhist mantra.

Xiao Yicai took a deep breath and addressed Jade Sun, “Elder Jade Sun, as a senior figure, how can the Longevity Sect, one of the four great demonic factions, resort to such lowly tactics? Are you not ashamed?”

Jade Sun, enraged, retorted, “You righteous scions also ambushed us, yet you dare to speak such hypocritical words?”

Xiao Yicai, unfazed, continued, “We, the younger generation, must guard against treacherous schemes. We did not expect such a reception from a so-called senior!”

Infuriated, Jade Sun roared and lunged, followed by his disciples. Xiao Yicai and the others, with their superior cultivation, engaged Jade Sun, while the rest fought the Longevity Sect members.

Jade Sun, despite his composure, was driven to fury by the sight of his weakened sect. Xiao Yicai’s barbed words pushed him over the edge. Even Meng Ji, who had tried to intervene, failed to stop him.

Jade Sun, with a century of experience and formidable skills, despite losing his left arm a decade ago, proved a daunting opponent. Single-handedly, he faced off against Xiao Yicai, Fayiang, and Li Xun, the three finest young talents of the righteous path.

With the Yin-Yang Mirror, Jade Sun repelled their attacks, even reflecting them back. Initially caught off guard, the three narrowly avoided catastrophe. Li Xun nearly lost his left arm to his own treasure, the Nine Sun Ruler.

Realizing the mirror’s power, the trio became more cautious. Despite Jade Sun’s formidable strength, his disciples were overwhelmed by the superior talents and treasures of the righteous disciples.

Meng Ji, after fending off a Burning Incense Valley disciple, called out anxiously, “Master!”

Gritting his teeth, Jade Sun, realizing the futility of further resistance, shouted, “Retreat! I will cover your escape!”

The Longevity Sect members fled into the darkness. Xiao Yicai and his companions, quick to react, attacked Jade Sun. He roared, the Yin-Yang Mirror whirling and deflecting their attacks. Xiao Yicai, struggling to control the Seven Stars Sword, eventually regained control, but not before taking heavy blows.

Jade Sun, despite the odds, fought fiercely, protecting his fleeing disciples. His presence alone was enough to make the righteous disciples retreat, giving him a chance to fight another day.

However, as the battle raged, a distant figure watched intently. Amidst the chaos, a radiant blue light appeared, and Lu Xueqi, standing mid-air, recited incantations, unleashing a massive lightning bolt. The thunderclap echoed across the swamp.

Jade Sun, recognizing the threat, prepared to resist. But before he could act, Lu Xueqi’s Divine Sword Lightning Spell struck, forcing him into the ground. His face contorted with pain, and the ground around him shattered, uprooting trees and vegetation.

Desperate, Jade Sun bit his tongue, spitting blood onto the Yin-Yang Mirror, causing it to glow brightly and counter the divine spell. Xiao Yicai and the others, sensing the danger, moved to intercept. Jade Sun, using the last of his strength, escaped into the darkness.

Li Xun, eager to pursue, was halted by Xiao Yicai, “Do not chase the fleeing foe. This place is fraught with danger. Caution is key.”

Reluctantly, Li Xun stopped, acknowledging Xiao Yicai’s wisdom.

Thus, the night’s battle ended in the Longevity Sect’s defeat. The righteous path, though suffering losses, emerged victorious, a testament to their combined strength and determination.
