Chapter 19: The Struggle for Dominion

Azure-Scaled Eagle sneered sideways, its entire body shimmering with icy, metallic scales like those forged from refined gold. Cold and intimidating, its eyes gleamed with divine brilliance as it looked down.

“Big Aunt Azure, hurry up! We’re running out of time!” Xiao Bud shouted loudly while waving his tiny hands atop the mountain peak.

The wind howled fiercely as the Azure-Scaled Eagle dove down. Its wings stretched wide—fifteen or sixteen meters long—like a black cloud casting a heart-chilling shadow beneath.

Shi Hao gave a whoosh as he leaped five or six meters into the air, landing nimbly upon the eagle’s broad back. Instantly, he felt its rigid hardness. Each scale felt like solid cold iron.

“Little Bud, don’t risk your life!” Clan Leader Shi Yun Feng shouted. Everything had happened too fast. He hadn’t been able to stop Shi Hao before the boy had already jumped aboard.

“Grandpa Clan Leader, don’t worry. We won’t take unnecessary risks. We’ll act only when the time is right,” Shi Hao waved his small hand, urging calm.

“Be careful, Xiao Bud!” Shi Lin Hu bellowed. Knowing the little rascal could not be stopped, he simply raised his voice in concern.

“Uncle, I know,” Shi Hao answered calmly. “Grandpa Clan Leader, everyone must head back first. It’s far too dangerous here. Even if our entire clan marched in unison, we would be lost among the hundreds of frenzied beasts,” he added.

The villagers fell silent. It was a harsh truth: even if every able-bodied youth joined in, they would be overwhelmed and slaughtered by the monstrous horde.

“Go!” commanded Shi Yun Feng, swiftly waving a hand as chief of the clan, or calamity could soon follow.

“Xiao Bud, you must be careful!” the people all cried out in unison, offering one last heartfelt plea.

“I know, Grandpa Clan Leader. You all must be careful too,” he replied gently.

The Azure-Scaled Eagle circled tightly, narrowly clearing the mountaintop as it soared off into the distance. With blinding speed, the wind roared like thunder around them, whipping at the face until it stung, nearly making eyes impossible to keep open.

Little Bud Shi Hao clung tightly to the eagle’s cold, gleaming scales. Two small hands gripped the armored plates firmly as he squinted and peered down below.

“Auntie Azure, be careful! There are so many beasts below,” Shi Hao shouted.

So swift was the eagle that with a flap of its mighty wings, it swept over countless peaks in an instant and arrived at the battlefield. Trees lay flattened, giant trunks snapped and scattered, with leaves and broken branches scattered everywhere.

Hundreds of colossal beasts battled furiously, while over a hundred vicious fowls flapped their iron-like wings. Nothing remained intact—many stones even crumbled, leaving a scene of total devastation. Roars of beasts and cries of savage birds echoed through the mountains and woods, their shrieks staining the earth crimson. Countless monstrous beasts had fallen, trampled into blood-drenched pulp—an utterly grotesque bloodbath!

Before the collapsed Purple Mountain, the space was crowded, churning with terrifying creatures engaged in a maddened war, their blood spattering tens of feet high. With furious energy, they dug up stones and tore through rock to find the corpse of the Suan Ni.

A massive, multi-meter-long mountain cat, with a horned head and a robust, powerful frame, tore apart giant beasts with each swipe. Its twin claws sliced through anything like blades of divine fury, each swing drawing forth sprays of blood, leaving it soaked and crazed in battle.

“Aowww!” A massive Kuai beast roared like thunder. Its enormous twenty-meter body was the size of a small hill. Its sonic attacks, like waves of sound, could stun a field of predators, and as its giant legs thundered forward, blood-soaked earth sprayed outward.

“Bam!” A silver pangolin, eight or nine meters long, charged through. Its head bore a single sharp horn like a piercing cone—indestructible and unyielding—splitting mountains apart as it burrowed directly into the mountainside itself.

…So many different species, yet all possessed the strength of strange bloodlines, otherwise none would dare show themselves here. The mighty titans battled fiercely—this entire pack of monstrous beasts striving to claim Suan Ni’s corpse to consume, thereby evolving and becoming rulers of the forest.

The winds howled furiously as the Azure-Scaled Eagle rocketed forward with blinding speed. It shot forth iron-hard talons the size of grinding stones, aiming directly for that eight or nine meter-long silver pangolin because it was clearly closest to retrieving Suan Ni’s corpse, half of its body already burrowing into Purple Mountain.

A loud “plop!” rang out as the silver beast, though armored like unbreakable iron, was impaled by the eagle’s gleaming talons. Blood gushed forth.

From within the rocks erupted a furious growl as the beast went wild, swinging its tail violently. Emerging from the rubble in a sudden burst, it reared upright and charged, ramming its massive two-meter horn straight toward the eagle’s chest.

However, the Azure-Scaled Eagle was fierce beyond measure—its power so great that the Stone Village had once needed to deploy their ancestral artifact, an unimaginable terror passed down from the ancient King of Beasts.

The beast beat the sky with its massive wings, instantly rocketing upward again, talons never releasing the pangolin’s tail, rising swiftly through the cloud layers.

During the climb, wind and thunder rumbled as the silver beast thrashed wildly in vain, unable to use the land to stand tall or strike back against the sky-bound predator.

Suddenly, after soaring past the clouds, the eagle released its talons. The silver pangolin transformed into a blinding streak of light, plunging violently back toward the earth.

“Boom!” The forest below cried out in pain as clouds of dust exploded skyward. The eight-meter-long beast struck with thunderous impact, splintering the bones of multiple powerful creatures beneath it before finally collapsing into a mashed pulp—despite its iron-hard constitution.

“Auntie, you’re amazing!” Little Bud cried out in astonishment.

The Azure-Scaled Eagle dived downward once more toward the mountain. As a top predator of the outer regions of the mountain range, it stood unrivaled and peerless among the beasts.

A humming sound arose. This time, no physical power was summoned. Instead, the eagle opened its mouth, expelling a crescent of aquamarine moonlight. It differed from Little Bud’s silver moon—two meters across. The targeted prey was that twenty-meter Kuai beast.

The emergence of such an ancient primal art caused the area to descend into chaos. All manner of feral beasts and savage birds scattered in panic. But some—those filled with the essence of the wild—only became bloodthirstier, charging forth to eradicate this aerial threat immediately.

“Splooosh!” The azure crescent glowed radiant and sharp, slicing through the air before cleanly cleaving off the Kuai beast’s colossal head. Blood shot over ten meters high before the severed body fell with a thunderous crash, shaking the ground beneath as crimson streams poured like rivers.

“Meooow!” An unearthly shriek pierced through the chaos—a massive mountain cat several meters long. Hiding atop high rock, it sprang with savage ferocity, striking at the eagle from behind. On its head was a single, jet-black horn that jabbed straight toward the eagle’s rear skull. Half-meter claws, extended to their full reach, tore toward the predator’s back.

This ambush was perfectly timed; had it connected, even the iron-like scales of the eagle would have proven useless as a defense—for this beast too bore the blood of ancient beast lineage.

Simultaneously, wings thrashed through the air. Seven or eight monstrous birds dove from all sides at once, attempting to strike the eagle, sensing its greatest threat and aiming to eliminate the sky-bound sovereign in unison.

Yet a haze of light emerged. A silvery moon rose into the heavens. Runes shimmered across its silver face, adorned with mysterious glyphs and ancient trees standing beside a moon palace. With a thunderous “whoosh,” it cleaved forward. The dreadful mountain cat screeched, its horn snapping while its skull split in two before it tumbled lifelessly downward.

“Big Aunt Azure, don’t worry. Leave the rear to me,” little Shi Hao called out in his childish tone.

Azure-Scaled Eagle released a mighty cry, flaring its wings against other foes. Scales and feathers flew through the air as blood rained from multiple wounds. In a burst, it tore apart six monstrous, several-meter-long fowl—some larger even than itself—yet none could withstand the eagle’s pure physical strength alone.

It was the descendant of an ancient demonic avian race, and without using divine arts, its body itself was enough to ravage the forests, undefeated in every direction.

Whistling wind roared around them as this time, the Azure-Scaled Eagle dived low. Most of the remaining monsters, unwilling to face such might, fled immediately.

“Big Auntie Azure, dig away these stones. Suan Ni must be underneath,” Little Bud commanded.

Obediently, the eagle landed. A single sweep of its claw split a thousand-jin boulder, and with one mighty flap of its wings, sent the rest flying. Swiftly, it began to excavate—the site was far too dangerous, and even for one as strong as itself, remaining too long was foolish.

Falling rocks exploded outward as a deep pit quickly formed.

Suddenly, a flash of purple lightning emerged from below—a dazzling streak racing toward the eagle!

“Ching!” The violet-gold ray struck the eagle’s left wing, sparking with violent sparks. The pain seared through the mighty wing as a furious shriek erupted from its throat.

“Oh no, it’s a purple snake!” Xiao Bud cried.

This serpent struck so quickly that no one could react. One strike and it vanished. It was no larger than a human thigh—six or seven meters long—not as monstrous compared to other giant beasts, yet its presence carried great might.

Yet, it was strong beyond appearance, its scales shimmering with purple-golden radiance that poured off its solid muscular body. It sank its fangs in deeply, crushing even the iron-scale toughness of the eagle’s feathers to pieces. Worse, dark blood flowed from the eagle’s wound—clearly poisoned.

“Pop!” The descendant of ancient demonic birds spat forth a tiny silver moon. With one slash, the entire injured section of its wing was severed—several pounds of flesh torn away, sending forth a crimson fountain.

“Big Aunt Azure!” Little Bud cried in alarm.

No one could have predicted that such a terrible beast lurked hidden within these stones. Clearly strong enough to rival the azure predator, it was a fearsome adversary.

The Azure-Scaled Eagle shrieked, glyphs glowing from its wound as it swiftly stemmed the bleeding. Stabilizing the injury, it glared with cold, piercing eyes fixed upon the great violet-golden serpent.

“Ssss…” This snake was intelligent, exuding a high wisdom as it remained locked in opposition.

Moonlight shimmered. The eagle summoned its divine art, a crescent slashing forth at extreme speed. Air trembled under the pressure with a howling sound—

Surprisingly, however, the viper moved faster than expected. Standing on its tail, it launched backward twenty meters, dodging the deadly attack.

Wings flared, the eagle lunged again—its beak opened, revealing the same aqua crescent—yet now more radiant. Chasing down the purple serpent, it cleaved with a metallic “clang!”

Finally, it connected. Yet to the astonishment of all, the golden snake wasn’t cut in two. Instead, its scales only peeled away in large patches, blood now visible beneath its once-protective armor. Twisting and convulsing in pain, it rebounded, flying backward yet another twenty meters.

“Shishishish!” Little Bud released his power. His palm radiated forth a silvery moon, circular, holy, and resplendent with light and multicolored aura. It shot forth, slamming straight into the snake’s bleeding wound.

Exposed without protective armor, the blow caused blood to erupt—but only to the depth of a finger. Its bone and flesh proved so dense and solid they resisted fully.

The Azure-Scaled Eagle’s eyes burned with ice-cold fury. Rarely did it take injury before entering the deeper mountains. Today’s humiliation could not be overlooked—it gave pursuit with unrelenting resolve.

Suddenly, a ray of blood-red brilliance burst from the side—more than two meters long, radiant and brilliant with an almost blinding scarlet glow, entirely sudden—too swift for defense—as it struck the eagle’s back.

It was a Blood Marten—two meters long, crystalline red like a garnet, with twin blood-wings glowing like rosy mists. Though far smaller than most titanic monsters, it packed an overwhelming power.

It was impossibly strong, and swift as lightning—so much so that a single charge nearly gutted Xiao Bud entirely, saved only by a silver moon strike—barely grazing his belly, yet delivering a direct blow to the eagle’s neck, carving a slash half a meter wide.

Xiao Bud growled in response, calling upon the silver moon again, forcing the Marten back.

The predator’s wings trembled with rage. Bathed in light, its fury exploded outward, as it began a vengeful hunt after the two abominations.

That cooperation between the purple serpent and blood marten was too perfectly timed, like a pre-rehearsed dance—leaving Xiao Bud impressed. It was proof that these creatures truly did possess extraordinary wisdom.

“Hmmph!” A silver crocodile roared forth from the river, bursting onto the scene and smashing a cluster of stones aside in a single blow. Simultaneously, seven or eight other powerful beasts emerged, far superior to the average monstrous kind. They formed a terrible confrontation, a standstill in tension.

Eventually, they seemed to arrive at a mutual understanding—ceasing their attacks momentarily, each focusing on unearthing the body of Suan Ni’s remains.

The Azure-Scaled Eagle also halted. Blood smeared across its frame while the cold gleam of armor still radiated from its azure scales, exuding dread.

“Big Auntie Azure, are you alright?” Xiao Bud called in concern. There were hundreds of titanic beasts—some even nearly as powerful as the eagle. Snatching Suan Ni’s remains was going to be nearly impossible.

“Crash!” The silver crocodile charged ahead recklessly, overturning massive stones in succession. Then suddenly, a brilliant golden aura erupted—a light as brilliant as a small sun rising through the stones.

It was the leg—thick as a pillar, powerful and dense with golden fur—glowing like molten gold under light. Radiant and majestic, brimming with ancient fury!

The treasure body of Suan Ni had appeared, shimmering with primordial glyph energy. The sight sent shockwaves through every strong soul on the battlefield. All pairs of eyes flared with greedy fire as they rushed toward the golden beast, each desperate to claim its body!
