Has he stepped into the realm of Supreme Being?
Shi Hao carefully sensed the changes within him. His power had surged dramatically, far surpassing his previous state in the Dunyi realm. Only now did he truly understand why Supreme Beings stood so high above all other beings, effortlessly crushing all beneath them.
With his current cultivation, he didn’t even need to strike—just a slight release of his aura was enough to make cultivators of other realms tremble, their bodies collapsing under the pressure. Compared to before, this absolute dominance, this overwhelming sense of oppression, was indescribable.
For Shi Hao, a single drop of his blood could now annihilate top-tier sects. With a mere gesture, he could shatter star domains, refine suns and moons, and with a flicker of killing intent, wipe out entire groups of Dunyi cultivators in an instant. This explosive growth in power sent waves of emotion surging through his heart.
“An insurmountable chasm,” he mused inwardly. Though the Dunyi realm was only one step below Supreme Being, the gap was vast—an unbridgeable abyss.
Had he truly entered the Supreme Being realm?
Shi Hao’s mind wavered. He remembered the countless obsessions he had severed, the prices he had paid to walk this path. Had he succeeded now? Yet, it felt too fast. Though there had been hardships and life-or-death crises, the road to Supreme Being hadn’t been as treacherous as he had imagined.
“No, my cultivation isn’t stable. My power fluctuates, and my body and spirit are not yet perfected.” Shi Hao turned his gaze inward, coldly picking out his flaws. He looked up at the sky. Was this the final test—just a few beams of light descending upon him? The so-called trial of heaven and earth wasn’t as terrifying as he had expected.
The world was gray and chaotic, the void torn asunder, fragments of time swirling around him. Shi Hao was lost in thought. Something felt off. Had he truly advanced just like this?
Hesitating briefly, he stepped toward the chaos, intending to return to the Desolate Domain. But as he moved, a sudden chill gripped him—fleeting, yet unmistakable. In that instant, his entire body turned ice-cold, his hair standing on end, his heart pounding with dread.
A mere flicker of sensation had stirred an overwhelming sense of doom within him, a Supreme Being no less. What kind of terrifying event could evoke such a reaction?
After a brief pause, Shi Hao pressed forward, determined to uncover the truth. The world remained gray, the chaos dissipating to reveal an endless void, oppressive and suffocating. The further he walked, the more uneasy he grew. This path back felt wrong—why was it so heavy with despair?
He knew something was amiss but didn’t stop. Soon, he spotted a peculiar road and stepped onto it. The path was paved with black stones, but upon closer inspection, they seemed stained with blood, turning them a dark crimson.
“Corpses.”
Bodies lay strewn along the roadside, each radiating astonishing battle intent and formidable auras. Even in death, their unyielding imprints still pulsed with power.
“Supreme Being auras!”
Shi Hao’s expression shifted. This road in the chaos was bizarre. Most of the corpses lining the stone path emitted faint traces of Supreme Being energy.
“Many bones lie on the path of the Supreme Being.”
At that moment, he spotted a broken stele by the roadside, inscribed with those very words—written in blood, dripping with killing intent. Even someone as strong as Shi Hao felt a bone-deep chill, his body tensing as a sense of immense danger gripped him.
The road ended at a cliff. Beyond it lay an abyss—an endless darkness where nothing could be seen.
“Path of the Supreme Being.”
Only three words were carved into the ground, written in fresh, glaring blood, as if still warm. Who had left this mark? Shi Hao stood motionless, silently sensing and contemplating.
The Path of the Supreme Being was broken ahead, leading to an infinite abyss. Did this signify that to proceed was to plunge into eternal darkness and ruin?
Boom!
A thunderous roar echoed through the heavens, as if the Great Dao itself trembled, awakening from oblivion. Shi Hao looked up. The gray sky flickered with faint light, threads of order emerging. He seized that fleeting opportunity, sensing the hidden truth.
And then—he froze in shock.
Through communion with the heavens, he unraveled the secret of this place. What seemed real was actually an imprint left behind through the ages. The so-called Path of the Supreme Being was a manifestation of the Great Dao, a record of the trials endured by past Supreme Beings.
No wonder the inscription read: “Many bones lie on the path of the Supreme Being.”
Indeed, since ancient times, countless beings had taken this step, striving to become Supreme Beings. Yet, ninety-nine percent had perished. The corpses he saw were all failures.
Shi Hao’s own path was unfinished. If he failed, he would join their ranks. Did the black abyss represent the fate of most?
The world fell silent. All light vanished, all sensations faded. After a brief pause, Shi Hao strode forward resolutely, stepping into the void above the abyss. The broken path had to be mended by each individual.
This was the final trial of the Supreme Being path. With each step, Shi Hao descended deeper into the abyss—a descent into ruin and destruction. His figure vanished from sight, swallowed by the darkness.
He unleashed his full potential, resisting the oppressive force that sought to crush him into the abyss. He fought to rise, to soar upward, but the power pressing down on him was immense. He advanced even as he fell, the speed terrifying.
How far had he traveled? How deep had he sunk? The darkness grew thicker, his celestial vision failing. Then, his foot touched something. Looking down, his heart turned cold. The abyss’s bottom was littered with corpses.
So many had died on this path—all failures! These weren’t real bodies but imprints left by the Great Dao, yet they represented real tragedies of the past.
Shi Hao’s blood boiled, burning with defiance. He summoned his utmost strength, struggling against the shackles, refusing to become another corpse. But again and again, he was slammed back down. Deathly energy crept up his legs, threatening to claim him.
“True Phoenix Immortality Art!”
With a metallic clang, fiery feathers erupted around him, the True Phoenix Treasure Technique manifesting. It severed the deathly energy, incinerating the darkness, illuminating the abyss. Shi Hao fought fiercely, determined to break free.
Just as the deathly energy dissipated, a divine spear shot toward him, piercing his forehead—nearly splitting his skull. The suddenness of the attack was horrifying. His brow bone glowed, clamping onto the spear before he yanked it out. Such brutal trials were beyond cruel.
The spear dissolved into ripples of rules in his palm. The Path of the Supreme Being was merciless!
After enduring the flames of mortal suffering, he was only a quasi-Supreme Being. He hadn’t yet completed this path. Now was the final test.
For nine days and nights, Shi Hao pressed forward, facing death daily. Many times, his body was obliterated. At his worst, only his fractured soul, a few bones, and drops of blood remained. Yet, he survived.
Could he reach the end? He felt this trial might be harder than the path to immortality.
“Why is becoming a Supreme Being so difficult?!” Shi Hao demanded, glaring at the dark sky.
“The Dao follows nature. Yet your desire for the Dao is too strong—unnatural.” A voice seemed to respond, resonating in his mind. Was it the Great Dao answering, or his own subconscious rebuking him?
“I will attain the Dao!” Shi Hao’s gaze turned icy, his resolve unshakable.
Boom!
He stepped forward without hesitation, refusing to retreat. Instantly, the darkness receded, revealing the cliff’s edge ahead.
But as he moved to ascend, chains of iron descended silently from the gray sky, binding him, suspending him before the cliff, immobile.
“The Dao is not forced!”
The voice boomed again, as if from within his own heart.
“If men had no desires or thoughts, why seek the Dao? Become a rock instead!” Shi Hao roared.
Boom!
Light erupted as the chains rattled, dozens—no, hundreds—piercing his body before tightening. Blood sprayed as Shi Hao grunted in pain. Then, the chains ignited, searing runes scorching his flesh. Any single one could destroy a mighty being, yet here they came in droves.
“Obsessions—each chain, an obsession!” the voice declared.
Would the Dao only be his when all obsessions were extinguished? He had already severed many. Were there still so many left?
“Cutting some obsessions isn’t enough? Must I become a stone to satisfy you?” Shi Hao’s eyes darkened.
Flames surged, runes blazing, engulfing him. The chains burned through him, charring his body, reducing it to ruin. Shi Hao faced his most grueling trial yet.
For days, his bones shattered under the torment, his soul dimming. Each time he rebuilt his body, the suffering only intensified.
“If this is the way, then let all obsessions erupt!”
With a low roar, every obsession he had ever severed reignited, surging from his heart, bursting forth in radiant light.
Boom!
The space convulsed. More chains materialized, coiling around him, binding him tighter, seeking to annihilate both body and soul.
