Chapter 84: Hypnosis

Mu Lin had already noticed these people the moment they entered. Without even turning his head, his telepathic ability detected something unusual about them. First, their clothing was inconsistent with their rough, violent demeanor—dressed in attire unfitting for their brutal nature, they perfectly embodied the ancient saying, “A monkey wearing a crown.” Second, all of them carried firearms without the required permits. This clearly indicated they were not from the监察局 or any government agency; they could only be members of the underworld.

Mu Lin found it puzzling. He had already eliminated the Hei Hu gang, and the Hudson family was currently too preoccupied to bother him. Who else in New York would dare target him now? He couldn’t immediately answer this question, because the attackers were a bizarre mix of races—white, black, red, and yellow. It would be impossible to identify them merely through observation or tracking. Therefore, he decided to wait.

Before the attackers even launched their blow darts, Mu Lin’s telepathic senses had already analyzed the powerful new anesthetic coating the needles. Based on his current status and connections, he was well aware of this drug’s properties—it could knock out even an elephant within five seconds, and the unconsciousness would last for at least two hours. This anesthetic was only available to elite military units, special police forces, and certain government investigative agencies in the U.S. It was practically impossible to find on the open market. It seemed the people behind this operation had serious backing. Mu Lin couldn’t help but marvel.

Instantly, his Yuan Qi energy surged into his pants, making them as rigid as thin steel plates. When the blow darts struck, they simply fell to the ground. Then, Mu Lin slowly lowered his body onto the table, carefully controlling his breathing and pulse to mimic the state of someone unconscious. His hand gradually slid off the table, and with a subtle motion, he used telekinesis to draw the darts into his ring.

Seeing Mu Lin slumped over the table with his hand dangling down, the attackers believed the anesthetic had taken effect. Several individuals seated at the adjacent table immediately stood up, rushed over, and began shaking his body while pretending to panic. “Tony! What’s wrong with you? How could you suddenly collapse like this?” They acted as if he were one of their own, their expressions filled with apparent concern.

Their accomplices quickly pulled out mobile phones and made calls. Soon, an ambulance pulled up in front of the café. Several men in white coats jumped out, carrying a stretcher as they entered.

The men supporting Mu Lin hurried to greet them. The men in white coats placed Mu Lin onto the stretcher and immediately carried him into the ambulance. The vehicle sped away from Fifth Avenue.

Throughout the entire process, Mu Lin remained motionless, allowing them to handle him as they wished. In reality, his telepathic senses had already identified every one of them, and his Yuan Qi energy was fully activated. Should any of them attempt any hostile actions, he would strike without hesitation.

The ambulance sped off, its occupants silent and unmoving. No one spoke or made any sudden moves. They simply kept glancing at Mu Lin, creating a tense and suffocating atmosphere.

Eventually, the ambulance arrived at a villa in the suburbs. As the vehicle approached, the gates opened automatically. It drove directly up to the main building, where the men in white coats carried Mu Lin inside, laid him on a bed in a first-floor room, and then immediately returned to the ambulance before driving off. Throughout the entire process, not a single word was spoken, leaving Mu Lin unable to gather any information from their conversations.

Shortly afterward, two more individuals entered the room carrying a doctor’s medical kit. They took out various ointments and began applying something to Mu Lin’s face. After a while, they placed a facial mask on him, altering his entire appearance. Once finished, they left and returned to the ambulance.

Mu Lin’s telepathic senses carefully observed their every move. When they finally completed their task, he realized his entire facial structure had been transformed—he now looked like a completely different person.

Now alone in the room, Mu Lin extended his telepathic senses outward. Although the room was empty, it was equipped with a surveillance system, meaning every movement he made was under watch.

The villa was located in a remote suburban area, isolated from any nearby residences. Though the entire property covered more than ten acres, the three-story building made the compound appear vast and empty. The number of people inside was also small—only two individuals in the surveillance room, one of Asian descent, plus eight guards. In total, there were no more than ten people in the entire villa, nine of whom were white.

Mu Lin silently admired the meticulousness of his adversaries. Every step of their plan had been executed flawlessly. The ambulance was likely a real hospital vehicle, and the personnel’s behavior mimicked the skills of genuine medical staff.

Even if the operation were exposed and the police captured these individuals, discovering the ambulance alone wouldn’t provide any useful leads. Perhaps only the two people in the surveillance room were the true masterminds behind the operation. Mu Lin couldn’t be certain, because there were still forty minutes before the anesthetic would wear off. Perhaps these were just henchmen, and the real person in charge had yet to arrive. Considering how meticulously planned the entire operation was—each step carefully calculated and seamlessly connected—Mu Lin decided to continue waiting.

Indeed, his patience was soon rewarded. Twenty minutes later—leaving twenty minutes before the anesthetic’s effects would fade—a black Ford pulled into the villa’s courtyard. A white man in his early forties, also dressed in a white coat, stepped out and entered the surveillance room directly.

The two people inside immediately stood up upon seeing him, addressing him respectfully: “Dr. Stear, you’re here. The patient will awaken in twenty minutes.”

This further confused Mu Lin, until he paused and thought it through. Upon realization, he felt even greater admiration for the planner behind this operation. The three people in the surveillance room—only the first two had a connection to the mastermind. The newly arrived individual was clearly a genuine doctor, completely unaware of the entire scheme, as evidenced by their manner of address.

At this point, Dr. Stear said, “Alright then, we can proceed to the treatment room and prepare for the patient’s therapy.” Saying this, he led the way toward Mu Lin’s room.

Upon entering the room, Dr. Stear instructed the others to place Mu Lin in a chair facing a table, then he sat across from him, waiting for Mu Lin to regain consciousness. The other two individuals supported Mu Lin upright while one of them set up a video camera to record the proceedings.

Mu Lin’s telepathic senses detected the time on the doctor’s wristwatch. When the moment arrived, he gradually adjusted his breathing and pulse to simulate waking up, slowly opening his eyes.

What greeted him was a small, swaying ball. A faint wave of mental force enveloped him, and a voice softly said in his ear: “Now, look at this ball in front of you, and slowly relax…”

At this moment, Mu Lin finally understood the true purpose of the planners—they intended to hypnotize him.
