There are twelve months in a year, each consisting of thirty days, and each day comprises one hundred kē (ancient time unit). Thus, one month totals thirty thousand kē, and ten months accumulate three hundred thousand kē.
Internally, one cultivates the elixir throughout the thirty thousand kē of a year; externally, one extends the body’s lifespan to thirty thousand years. On a grand scale, ten thousand three hundred and fifty breaths form the embryonic foundation in a single day; on a smaller scale, within twelve hours, energy travels the eighty-four thousand li (Chinese unit of distance).
Thus, it is said: Seize the heavenly and earthly yang’s single point; gather the sun and moon’s dual essence. Circulate true water within the lead furnace; propel genuine fire inside the mercury cauldron.
Among the Daoist schools, alchemical furnaces and talismans abound; yet the mortal world remains a sea of suffering, where one returns to the origin and regains the primal state.
