Chapter 9: Dual Personality

“Are you sure you won’t move out?” Yu Yihan’s eyes turned colder once again, and a proud smirk curled her lips. If looks could kill, Xiao Yufan would have died hundreds of times by now.

“I won’t move out!” Xiao Yufan’s reply was firm and resolute. He deliberately avoided meeting Yu Yihan’s glare and began humming a tune nonchalantly. It was already very late, and he didn’t have any money—was he supposed to sleep on the street?

Awkwardness… A stalemate…

Xiao Yufan fully displayed his scoundrel and rogue nature, unmoved no matter how intense the pressure was. However, he was still somewhat uneasy—if Yu Yihan really called the police, he would have no choice but to leave whether he wanted to or not.

“Then when exactly do you plan to move out? Don’t tell me you want to stay here indefinitely. This place isn’t a shelter; I have no obligation to house you!” Yu Yihan slightly softened her tone. She clearly understood that arguing with a ruffian would bring her absolutely no benefit.

“What…?” Xiao Yufan hadn’t expected Yu Yihan to ask such a question. A surge of joy rose in his heart—he wanted exactly this response. Being able to stay here for a while was naturally the best possible outcome.

Afraid Yu Yihan might change her mind, Xiao Yufan quickly added, “I’ll definitely move out once I find a suitable job!”

“And if you never find a job, does that mean you won’t move out? Old Li told me you haven’t found work in three years. I certainly don’t want to tolerate you for another three years. Remember, this place already belongs to me!”

“I will definitely find a job…” Xiao Yufan’s sore spot had been hit. He abruptly stood up from the sofa, cursing silently in his heart—Old Li had exposed all his secrets.

“Hmph, I hope you’re not just talking big. I’ll give you one more month, as compensation for not telling me beforehand!” Yu Yihan coldly huffed, making a compromise. After speaking, she directly walked into the bedroom, locked the door behind her, clearly treating Xiao Yufan like a potential pervert.

Xiao Yufan stared at the tightly closed door, a sudden sense of unreality rising in his heart. Happiness seemed to have come too suddenly. Had this woman really changed her nature and decided to let him stay? Yet, looking at her proud demeanor, Xiao Yufan couldn’t summon any liking for her.

After closing the bedroom door, Yu Yihan returned to her room and lay down comfortably. Having lived here for three years, suddenly having a beautiful female tenant was somewhat unsettling for him, even though there was a kitchen separating their bedrooms.

The next day, Xiao Yufan got up early—earlier than he had in the past three years. Even though he didn’t particularly like Yu Yihan, since she hadn’t completely cast him out, he felt he should show some gratitude.

Opening the refrigerator, Xiao Yufan saw many frozen meals. It seemed this woman was indeed a workaholic—these items were practically devoid of any nutritional value, serving only to fill one’s stomach.

Sounds of cooking echoed from the kitchen, and soon Xiao Yufan prepared a sumptuous breakfast. He might not excel at other things, but cooking was definitely his forte—he had spent much time studying culinary arts while staying at home for three years.

Looking at the lavish breakfast, Xiao Yufan indulged in a moment of self-admiration. At that moment, Yu Yihan’s bedroom door slowly opened. Their eyes met, Xiao Yufan gulped hard, and Yu Yihan immediately screamed and rushed back into her bedroom.

“Damn it, isn’t this blatant temptation!” Xiao Yufan forcefully suppressed the rising desire within him. Just now, Yu Yihan had been wearing only a nightgown, and what lay beneath was clearly visible—her stunning figure fully exposed.

Back in her bedroom, Yu Yihan’s face turned red. She had gotten used to living alone, and upon waking up, her mind hadn’t fully cleared, causing her to forget Xiao Yufan’s presence, resulting in that extremely awkward scene.

Changing out of her nightgown, Yu Yihan put on formal attire, did a quick touch-up of her makeup, and walked out of the bedroom again. The lingering blush on her face showed that her heart hadn’t fully calmed down. As proud as she was, no man had ever moved her heart before—Xiao Yufan was the first to see her in her nightgown.

Xiao Yufan looked up and met her icy gaze, letting out a helpless chuckle. This didn’t seem to be his fault, did it? It appeared he had once again become the scapegoat.

“I’ve prepared breakfast as an apology. My attitude before might not have been very good!” Xiao Yufan’s gaze was somewhat evasive, avoiding direct eye contact with Yu Yihan.

“I’m not hungry, and I don’t have the habit of eating breakfast…” Yu Yihan hesitated, then replied somewhat disdainfully, though her heart felt warm. She had already forgotten how long it had been since someone last cared for her like this.

“Damn it, I worked hard preparing breakfast all morning!” Xiao Yufan felt an urge to curse but naturally dared not voice these thoughts, merely grumbling inwardly. His painstakingly prepared breakfast had been completely ignored.

“Gurgle…” A faint sound reached both their ears. Yu Yihan’s face turned red—tempted by the delicious aroma, her stomach had betrayed her will.

Upon hearing this sound, Xiao Yufan, feeling extremely annoyed, sinisterly smiled and smacked his lips, feigning satisfaction. Yu Yihan huffed coldly but didn’t persist further, walking toward the dining table instead.

As Xiao Yufan watched Yu Yihan eat, he found that she wasn’t so unpleasant after all. What annoyed him, however, was that after finishing her meal, she didn’t even say a simple “thank you.” She quickly applied light makeup and left the apartment, not forgetting to coldly leave behind one last sentence: “Don’t enter my room, or you can move out immediately!”

Xiao Yufan smirked at the closed door. This woman was truly a fickle enchantress. He even suspected that Yu Yihan might have multiple personalities. Judging from her willingness to let him stay, her heart didn’t seem entirely cold. Yet, judging from her outward appearance, that intimidating coldness was undeniably evident…
