Chapter 55: Night Raid

Mu Lin returned to his room and waited until Finn and the other two women had begun their meditation. He then set up protective formations in their rooms to ensure no outsiders could intrude and disturb them.

Outside, after the recent commotion, the event organizers insisted on leaving ten security guards behind. Although reluctant, Mu Lin had no choice but to agree. However, these guards were only capable of intimidating ordinary people; they were no match for nightwalkers like Mu Lin and his companions.

On the very first night after his arrival, Mu Lin decided to tackle the trouble posed by the Hudson family—the powerful backers of Chinatown’s Black Tiger gang—before other complications could arise.

Leaving his clinic, Mu Lin stepped onto the street, where he suddenly spotted several people he had seen in Boston. Using his spiritual awareness to tail them from a distance, he followed their car to a villa in the suburbs of New York City. This was the Hudson family’s main base in New York. Under the cover of darkness, Mu Lin moved like a cat, silently infiltrating the villa.

Like a leopard, Mu Lin crouched in the bushes beside the lawn, motionless for an hour and a half, observing the guard rotations and the movements of people inside the main building and the surrounding smaller houses.

After the staff had retired for the night and the lights in the building gradually dimmed, only a few guards remained at their posts. The entire mansion seemed like a slumbering beast, waiting in the darkness to devour its prey.

It was time to act. Fixing his gaze on the four-story building, Mu Lin extended his spiritual awareness inward, scanning each floor slowly, starting from the top.

The above-ground levels of the mansion showed no signs of anything unusual, appearing no different from the typical mansion of a wealthy family. “Damn it, this guy’s a sly fox!” Mu Lin muttered to himself.

His spiritual sense gradually extended downward into the basement. Finally, in the second basement level, he detected something out of the ordinary. From this level onward, the building was filled with armed guards stationed at every corner, surveillance cameras, and sensors scattered throughout.

In a room on the third basement level, Mu Lin finally found a familiar face—a fat man with a cruel expression, a cigar in his mouth, and a glass of red wine in hand. This was clearly Hudson, the head of New York’s most powerful mafia family and the mastermind behind the abduction of Mei and the others. He was also the Black Tiger gang’s main backer in Chinatown.

At that moment, Hudson was shouting angrily at four dejected men. “You pigs! Now tell me, what the hell are you going to do? I sent you to Boston to tail someone, and after a month, you didn’t even lay eyes on him! Now he’s vanished, and you have the nerve to come back!” He took a breath. “I asked you to write a report on why your operation failed, and in one night, you told me you did nothing wrong. That yellow-skinned pig couldn’t possibly have discovered your trail. His disappearance was just a coincidence.”

Mu Lin was surprised to learn that even the mafia required written reports. It seemed this branch of the underworld was more organized than those back home. He wondered if Hudson even made his subordinates do homework. He chuckled inwardly.

Mu Lin recognized the four men immediately. They had been hiding in his Boston villa for half a month. His sudden disappearance and unexpected arrival in New York had led them back to their own base. It appeared these men had good connections in Boston’s underworld.

If not for his sudden disappearance, which left his pursuers unable to report back, he wouldn’t have encountered them in Hudson’s secret hideout. This once again confirmed the statements of the two butlers.

Hudson thought for a moment. “Fine, you don’t have to go back to Boston tomorrow. I’ll have Piss and his men handle it. But your salary this month will be reduced by a third.”

He continued sternly, “Remember, I don’t want anyone to discover your actions. And by the end of this month, I want detailed reports on everything about him on my desk. Now go make the necessary arrangements. If you mess this up again, for the next six months, you’ll be eating nothing but thin air.”

This area, located in northern New York suburbs, was a famous residential district for the city’s elite. Yet who would have guessed that Hudson, one of the five most powerful mafia families ruling New York’s underworld, had chosen this place as his base? No wonder the butlers’ reports had indicated that his residence was in another villa downtown.

Hudson then went to an adjacent room to rest, hugging two beautiful women on the bed and soon falling asleep. Obviously, he had no interest in anything else tonight.

After watching the four men leave the room and drive off, Mu Lin quickly exited his hiding place. The entire mansion fell silent, with only the occasional chirp of cicadas piercing the quiet night.

Since he had come this far, Mu Lin was determined to finish the job. This man had dared to call him a “yellow-skinned pig,” and if he didn’t make Hudson beg him to be called “Grandpa,” Mu Lin felt he would be unworthy of his cultivation. At the same time, he didn’t want anyone disturbing his peaceful life. He activated his invisibility technique, and his figure vanished from the bushes.

As he slowly approached the building, he suddenly heard an alarm blaring from the surveillance room. The guards quickly took up defensive positions, chaos erupting as they began searching the mansion with dogs.

Sensing something was wrong, Mu Lin swiftly slipped inside and hid in an empty room. He hadn’t expected his presence to be detected and suspected there might be a skilled practitioner among them. He immediately concealed his spiritual energy, completely vanishing from the building.

After an unsuccessful search, the guards reviewed the surveillance footage but found nothing. They concluded that the alarm had malfunctioned and reported this to Hudson, who agreed to deactivate the alert.

Once the mansion had returned to its former calm, Mu Lin began scanning the entire building with his spiritual awareness. This time, he discovered a dense network of infrared sensors throughout the building. They had been inactive while people were moving around but were now fully activated, forming an invisible web. Any disturbance would trigger the alarm.

Mu Lin regretted his earlier carelessness, realizing it had cost him precious time. The night had grown deep, and the mansion’s occupants had returned to sleep.

Under his spiritual perception, the infrared beams appeared as thin lines. Carefully avoiding them, Mu Lin reached the entrance to the second basement level.

The first basement level was a garage, nothing unusual. The entrance to the second basement was hidden behind a secret panel in one of the garage walls.

Using his spiritual awareness to confirm no one was behind the door, Mu Lin employed earth-escaping techniques to directly enter the second basement and Hudson’s room. Now that his golden core had formed, he could use many techniques, with earth-escaping being just one of them.

Although his spiritual awareness could detect infrared beams, as the leader of New York’s largest mafia family, Hudson’s room was likely protected with military-grade security measures. There might even be unknown detection devices inside. For safety, Mu Lin chose to use his escaping technique.

Silently, Mu Lin appeared directly inside Hudson’s room, standing quietly beside his bed.

Perhaps due to a sixth sense or the alertness cultivated through years of mafia life, Hudson’s eyes snapped open the moment Mu Lin appeared beside him.

Seeing a dark figure in the room, Hudson instinctively knew it wasn’t someone from his gang. He prepared to shout for help, his hand reaching under the pillow.

Before he could open his mouth, Mu Lin had already sealed his mute and paralysis points with his spiritual energy. He then subdued the two startled women on the bed before placing his hand on Hudson’s head.

This time, he didn’t plan to use the Mu Clan’s Puppet Technique. Firstly, as the leader of New York’s largest mafia organization, internal conflicts were intense, with several powerful factions within. If Hudson showed any abnormalities, he could easily be overthrown. Secondly, this organization was an extreme nationalist group unlikely to change its ways even if the leadership changed. Thirdly, the group was involved in murder, drug trafficking, and the trafficking of women, especially Asian women, which had already crossed Mu Lin’s moral boundaries.

Instead, Mu Lin used the forbidden martial arts technique known as Soul Search, extracting the information he needed. Releasing his hand, Hudson lay motionless on the bed, now a drooling idiot.
