Chapter 65: Surveillance

Mu Lin used his true energy to release the three girls from their pressure point lock. He then turned to Finney and said, “Call the mayor and the chief of police and tell them to come here to resolve this matter. Also notify our office’s lawyers to come immediately. I hope they can settle this with the police.”

However, after their pressure points were released, instead of following Mu Lin’s instructions to make the calls, each of the girls gave Mu Lin a kick and then walked over to the two young female officers, whispering comforting words to them.

Celia looked up at Mu Lin and said, “Daniel! You actually bullied these adorable little police sisters. Now what should we do? Why don’t you try to cheer them up?” Mu Lin was both amused and frustrated at the sight. Inwardly, he thought, Please! Didn’t you see those two pointing their guns at your husband’s head and bullying him? Now that they’re crying, suddenly it’s my fault?

The surrounding crowd, witnessing this scene, apparently believed Mu Lin’s version of events and, feeling awkward, quietly dispersed.

“Who wants him to cheer us up? We’re still going to take him back to the police station!” The two female officers stood up, reholstered their loaded pistols, and angrily shouted at Mu Lin while wiping their tears.

At that moment, four police cars arrived and quickly surrounded Mu Lin and the others. Heavily armed officers jumped out of the vehicles, each pointing their guns at Mu Lin and the girls.

An officer used a loudspeaker mounted on the patrol car and shouted, “People inside, you are surrounded. Drop your weapons, raise your hands, and surrender immediately. Release the police officers you have taken hostage!”

Faced with this situation, and considering the safety of the girls and the busy downtown location, Mu Lin reluctantly raised his hands along with the girls. However, the two young female officers rushed to the commanding officer, pointing at Mu Lin while loudly explaining the situation.

After hearing their explanation, the senior officer looked at their red, swollen eyes. He was clearly furious that someone had dared to challenge the authority of the police, especially an Asian man whom he assumed had no real background or connections. Feeling a surge of protective sympathy for the two women, he firmly ordered his men to arrest Mu Lin and the girls. The surrounding officers, lowering their weapons, moved in to take them into custody.

Seeing that the officer was still determined to arrest him and the girls even after learning the truth, Mu Lin realized this was clearly an act of personal vendetta and racial discrimination. He signaled the girls to stand behind him and then loudly addressed the detective, “Officer, I hope you will think carefully. As a minor of only sixteen years old, and given the fact that your procedures were clearly flawed, you still insist on taking me and my employees to the police station? Don’t you fear being prosecuted by the district attorney for violating the law and losing your job—or even being convicted by a judge?” Having often dealt with people in power, Mu Lin naturally carried a tone of authority himself. His stern words made the surrounding officers hesitate, unsure of how to proceed.

“What are you all waiting for? Carry out the order! Do you want this yellow monkey to rule over you?” The detective shouted at his subordinates. However, due to the strict local legal system, where law enforcement officers who break the law are punished even more severely, the officers hesitated to carry out such an obviously illegal order in broad daylight and in front of a crowd.

Mu Lin turned again to Finney and ordered, “Call the mayor and the chief of police and tell them to come here immediately to resolve this. Also notify our office’s lawyers. I hope they can settle this with the police. And I want this man to go to jail for what happened today.” He pointed at the lead detective.

Finney immediately took out her mobile phone and began making the calls as instructed. Seeing this, the surrounding officers became even more hesitant and backed away from Mu Lin. The detective, realizing the situation was slipping from his grasp but unwilling to accept defeat, thought that if he could eliminate this man, the others would side with him, especially since he was Asian, and might give favorable testimony during the trial. With this in mind, he reached for his sidearm, clearly intending to shoot Mu Lin on the spot.

Mu Lin had been closely observing the surroundings the entire time. His psychic senses had already mapped out the scene in his mind. Although he had his back to the detective while speaking to Finney, he was fully aware of the man’s intentions. As soon as the detective drew his gun, Mu Lin was already beside him. Before the officer could raise the weapon, Mu Lin struck his hand, causing the pistol to fall to the ground amid the startled cries of the onlookers.

“Trying to commit murder in public while breaking the law—you’re going to spend the rest of your life in prison,” Mu Lin said coolly to the now trembling detective. The surrounding officers looked devastated, clearly feeling a sense of shared dread.

After a while, Mu Lin’s lawyers arrived first, followed by the mayor and a group of high-ranking officials. Seeing that several of the city’s top figures from that morning were present, along with some congressmen and senators, Mu Lin felt his efforts had not been in vain. Upon hearing the full story, the officials immediately comforted Mu Lin and apologized to him. Finally, the police chief arrived. Upon seeing the massive scene and the high-level presence, he immediately realized the seriousness of the situation.

Before Mu Lin even spoke, the officials began scolding the police chief, who still had no idea what was really going on. Initially, he thought it was just a minor conflict with the police, but when he learned that his subordinates had broken the law and even tried to kill Mu Lin, he inwardly groaned, realizing he had gotten himself into serious trouble.

He immediately ordered the detective’s arrest on the spot and apologized to Mu Lin on behalf of the police department. He also promised to fully investigate the matter and provide a full report to Mu Lin and the city’s leaders.

He knew that if he didn’t do this, his days as police chief were over. Although the chief apologized, the two young female officers looked at Mu Lin with even more suspicion. Clearly, they still doubted whether he was connected to the Black Tiger gang.

Mu Lin, of course, noticed the looks from these two troublemakers but chose to ignore them. He and the girls got into the car driven by his bodyguard and left, thinking the matter with the police was finally over.

What he hadn’t expected was that that very night, he discovered someone was monitoring him. Using his psychic senses to check, he was both amused and annoyed to find out it was those two female officers again. It seemed they weren’t willing to give up so easily. This time, however, they were wearing civilian clothes and using surveillance equipment to monitor his residence from a distance.
