Chapter 97: Fei Fei

Under the powerful coverage of his mental sense, the entire three-story house was completely exposed, revealing nothing unusual. Mu Lin felt somewhat reluctant and extended his mental sense further to envelop the entire courtyard. In the northeast corner of the courtyard, he detected something abnormal. Once he confirmed the anomaly’s presence, Mu Lin felt reassured. He decided to focus on resolving the current matter first.

“Mr. McGuire, as far as I know, you’ve already contacted some people on Wall Street, but they haven’t given you a response. Today, I come with great sincerity. Regarding this patented technology, I have studied your R&D costs. Based on market research conducted by my department, I’m prepared to offer $800 million to acquire this patent.” Mu Lin hoped to finalize the deal quickly with this substantial offer.

“Mr. Daniel, you’ve brought up a significant issue, and I cannot give you an answer today. How about this? Tomorrow, I’ll present your proposal to the board of directors. After discussing it, I’ll provide you with a response. Okay? Please wait patiently for a couple of days. I’m truly sorry for calling you here so late tonight!” After a moment of contemplation, McGuire replied to Daniel.

“Alright then! I look forward to your prompt proposal!” Mu Lin shook hands with McGuire and departed.

After leaving McGuire’s villa, Mu Lin drove through several streets, then swiftly turned back and returned near McGuire’s villa. In the northeast corner of the area stood a house. When Mu Lin attempted to probe it with his mental sense, he found it completely blocked. Since he couldn’t confirm any connection between this and McGuire, he temporarily gave up on further investigation.

This time, Mu Lin was determined to find out exactly what could block his mental sense. This was something unprecedented in his memory, and it greatly intrigued him.

Abandoning his mental sense, he directly used his spiritual awareness to investigate. Slowly approaching the house, as expected, his spiritual awareness encountered a layer of resistance, seemingly from a formation constructed using energy stones.

Carefully analyzing the energy flow, Mu Lin discovered it was a formation he had already mastered—the Huan Yuan Formation he learned when obtaining the floating stone. Discovering a formation here, and one that had been set up not long ago, indicated the presence of a cultivator. Overcome with excitement, Mu Lin forcibly broke through the formation. What he saw inside the room shocked him.

There was no one in the room, only an animal resembling a civet, entirely white. When Mu Lin detected it with his spiritual awareness, it was resting, curling its white tail around its body. If Mu Lin were a girl, he would have shouted in delight, for the creature was extremely cute.

“Could this just be someone’s pet? Where has its owner gone?” A flood of questions arose in Mu Lin’s mind. He longed to rush into the room and uncover everything.

Although it was only his spiritual awareness entering, it still interfered with the formation’s operation. The little civet immediately stood up from its slumber, displaying an alert expression as it carefully examined its surroundings.

Noticing the civet’s reaction, Mu Lin immediately withdrew his spiritual awareness along the original path. He didn’t want his actions to provoke the little civet and cause misunderstandings for the house’s owner.

At the same time, he was somewhat surprised that a small animal could detect his spiritual awareness. Carefully recalling the ancient texts he had read, he finally realized that this creature somewhat resembled a mythical beast described in ancient records—the Feifei. A creature resembling a civet, jet black with a white tail. Keeping one could dispel worries—in simpler terms, it was an elite pet.

However, the creature before him was entirely white, not matching the description of Feifei. If it were indeed a Feifei, it would imply its owner was a cultivator far more advanced than himself. Someone capable of casually setting up the Huan Yuan Formation could not possibly be an ordinary individual.

Now even more cautious, Mu Lin carefully concealed his presence, fearing that any careless move might alarm the little creature in the room. Pets that had lived with their masters for years generally shared a mental connection. If provoked, the little creature might harbor hostility, and once the master returned, no matter how many explanations Mu Lin offered, they wouldn’t matter. Now that he had encountered a cultivator, a rare opportunity had presented itself, and Mu Lin had no intention of letting it slip away.

As Mu Lin was lost in thought, the door to the room had already been opened by Feifei. Now aware that the creature might indeed be Feifei, Mu Lin wasn’t surprised that it could exit the formation and open the door by itself.

As soon as Feifei exited the room, it immediately headed toward the three-story house. Carefully following the creature with his mental sense, Mu Lin observed Feifei directly enter the house and head upstairs. Upon reaching the second floor, the little creature went straight to its master McGuire’s room.

“McGuire, do you know where that person you were supposed to keep an eye on is staying?” After entering, a melodious female voice, speaking standard American English, echoed from within the room.

Mu Lin nearly stumbled in shock. “Good Lord, animals can talk now? Is this a hallucination, or have I entered another world? Or has this world changed too quickly for me to recognize it anymore?”

A sound of clothing rustling filled the room, followed by McGuire’s slightly drowsy voice:

“Dalise, what’s wrong with you? Didn’t I invite that guy specifically here last night, as you requested, so you could observe him closely? If it weren’t for your request, even if this project resulted in a loss, I wouldn’t have brought this little yellow-skinned monkey into my home. He’ll still be foolishly waiting for my reply. Hahaha!” McGuire concluded with a delighted laugh.

“Enough! I don’t need you to tell me who he is! I only want to ask you, do you know where he’s staying now?” Feifei’s voice sounded cold.

“Oh! Sorry, I just know he’s staying at the Hilton Hotel. Only my secretary knows the exact room number. Should I find it out for you now?” McGuire’s voice carried a hint of panic.

“No need. Knowing where he’s staying is enough! McGuire, I’m telling you now, I’ll be leaving your home today. I’ve already repaid your family more than enough. From now on, you must take care of yourselves!” Feifei’s voice softened slightly.

“No! You cannot leave my home! Remember, without my ancestors protecting you, you would have died long ago! You promised to repay my family! Why are you leaving us?” McGuire shouted, his voice filled with intense emotion and anxiety.

“Hmph! That’s true! I did receive healing from your ancestors, but let me tell you, that wasn’t saving my life! Moreover, I’ve already repaid your family for twelve generations, safeguarding your family’s security for over 400 years. Without me, your family would have perished a hundred times over. Not to mention I’ve already revealed a tremendous secret to you. What more could you possibly want? As for why I’m leaving your family, you don’t need to know. All you need to understand is that from today onward, we are even. If you dare to expose my existence, I will make you regret ever being born into this world!” After speaking, Feifei turned and left.
