Chapter 101: Battle of Wits

“Ahh!” Mu Lin was so shocked by the little creature’s words that he was left speechless and wide-eyed. Was this still a pet? It was practically a tempter, a corrupter. The conditions it proposed were so tempting that anyone with weak willpower would surely be led astray in no time.

No way. There were still several minors at home; if this creature stayed long enough, it would definitely corrupt them all. Absolutely not! Mu Lin resolved firmly in his heart—he would never allow this fox-like creature into his house.

“Hehe!” Mu Lin grinned foolishly at the little creature, startling it in return.

“Master,” the creature said in a trembling feminine voice while backing away, “although I’m a girl, I’m still just a pet. We can’t possibly engage in any romantic interactions!” If someone outside the door had overheard, they might have thought a bizarre play was being performed inside.

“Ahh!” Once again, Mu Lin was stunned by the creature’s words. Watching its behavior, Mu Lin nearly felt like ending his own life out of sheer embarrassment. How humiliating!

Mu Lin thought to himself, “What kind of nonsense is this? How could this little creature have such messed-up ideas? And besides, did my laugh really sound that lecherous?”

His face turned from green to purple, shifting through a variety of expressions. After a long pause, Mu Lin finally spoke slowly, “Alright! Stop talking nonsense! Do I look like that kind of person to you? If you dare to spread rumors outside, I’ll kill you!” His tone carried a subtle hint of murderous intent, and his body unconsciously exuded a killing aura.

“Ahh! Master, please don’t kill me! I won’t say anything outside, I promise! Oh no! Master, you’re really thinking of killing me! Please don’t! I’ll submit to you, okay?” The creature’s voice grew increasingly desperate, and finally, it dropped to the floor, trembling on all fours.

“Bang!” Mu Lin plopped down onto the floor. He thought to himself, “Is this still an animal? It’s practically as clever as an extremely smart woman! How did I end up with such a troublemaker? If this gets out, my reputation as a young master will be ruined by this little beast.”

“Ah!” Mu Lin was dumbfounded by the little creature’s words. Was this still just a pet? It was practically an instigator. The conditions it proposed were far too tempting—anyone with weak resolve would surely be corrupted in no time.

No, this wouldn’t do. There were still minors in the household, and if this went on, they’d be led astray. Absolutely not! Mu Lin steeled his resolve—he absolutely could not let this fox-like creature into his home.

“Hehe!” Mu Lin grinned foolishly at the little creature, startling it in return.

“Young Master, though I am female, I am merely a pet! We cannot engage in… romantic exchanges!” The little creature trembled as it spoke in a feminine voice, backing away. Anyone outside the door would have thought some scandalous scene was unfolding inside.

“Ah!” Mu Lin was once again stunned by the creature’s words. Watching its reaction, he felt so humiliated he wanted to die.

*What kind of nonsense is this? How does this little thing have such wild thoughts? And besides, was my smile really that lecherous?*

Mu Lin’s face cycled through shades of green and purple, his expression shifting unpredictably. After a long pause, he finally spoke slowly, “Enough! Stop spouting nonsense! Do I seem like that kind of person? If you dare spread rumors outside, I’ll kill you!” A hint of murderous intent seeped into his tone as his spiritual energy surged, an involuntary wave of killing intent radiating toward the creature.

“Ah! Young Master, don’t kill me! I won’t say a word outside, I swear! Oh no, you’re serious—fine, fine, I’ll submit to you, alright?” The creature’s voice grew increasingly shrill until it collapsed to the ground, limbs trembling.

*Thud!* Mu Lin fell onto his backside. *Is this thing even an animal? It’s practically as cunning as a woman! How did I end up with such a troublemaker? If word gets out, my reputation will be ruined by this little beast!*

“No! No matter the cost, I have to get rid of this scoundrel!” Mu Lin thought darkly. If it wanted floating stones, he’d just give it the one he’d already shown it. Otherwise, his name would be dragged through the mud by its wagging tongue.

As Mu Lin prepared to retrieve the stone from his ring, he subtly scanned the creature with his senses—only to find it lowering its head, making strange faces. Its trembling wasn’t from fear but from barely suppressed laughter.

*Damn it!* Mu Lin cursed inwardly. Usually, he was the one messing with others, but now he’d been outplayed by a tiny pet.

Resolved, Mu Lin strode toward the creature with a murderous glint, then spoke in a teasing tone, “Hey, little thing, you said it yourself—from now on, you’re under my command. Since you’ve ‘submitted,’ you’re mine now!”

He ignored the creature’s drooling, gaping expression.

“And since you’re mine, when I say ‘chase a chicken,’ you don’t go after a dog! My word is your highest law—got it? Break the rules, and I’ll find you a Xiezhi for a husband! Any objections?” He turned to glare at the creature.

Seeing its stunned, slack-jawed expression, he didn’t wait for an answer. “Given your IQ, I doubt you have any. Fine, I’ll give you a name—can’t keep calling you ‘this mutt’ or ‘that cat.’”

After a moment’s thought, he declared, “Names should reflect personality, looks, or temper. So from now on, you’re ‘Little Rascal’!”

The moment the words left his mouth, the creature leaped up.

“Hey! That’s a terrible name! You’re practically illiterate! And I already have a name—it’s ‘Ruyi’! Not ‘Little Rascal’!”

Mu Lin stared coldly. “Did I ask for your opinion, *Little Rascal*? You said you’re mine now—how else would I mark you as my property if not by renaming you?”

He paused. “*Ruyi*? That old-fashioned, unoriginal name is what you like? Tsk. Your IQ really is lacking. Must be from starving too long—made you stupid.”

He deliberately oozed pity, watching as the creature gaped speechlessly.

“Silence means consent. Fine, ‘Little Rascal’ it is!”

Pulling out an emerald-green floating stone from his ring, he drawled, “Here, Little Rascal! Judging by your affinity, you’re wood-aligned. This wood-attuned floating stone is my gift to you. Stick with me, and you’ll live in luxury! Lucky you!”

The creature’s eyes gleamed at the sight of the stone. In a flash, it lunged, snatching the stone from Mu Lin’s hand before landing gracefully, cradling its prize. Now utterly absorbed, it paid Mu Lin no mind.

Mu Lin hadn’t expected such speed. Without his spatial confinement ability, he’d be outmatched. *I underestimated this Fei Fei. If it weren’t so shameless, it’d make a decent ally.* The thought of its antics made his head throb.

Seizing the moment while the creature was engrossed, Mu Lin decided to slip away. Let it revel alone for now.

But as he reached the door, a soft, coquettish voice called out, “Young Master! Where are you going so late? You wouldn’t abandon poor little me, would you?”

Mu Lin stumbled. *How did it snap out of it so fast? And that tone again! If Fenny or the others were outside, I’d never explain this.*

“I didn’t want to interrupt your… euphoria. Thought I’d take a walk,” he replied, turning back.

“Ohhh?” The creature stretched the word. “I thought you were ditching me! Well, go ahead. I already know where you live—even if you don’t come back, I’ll find you.”

Mu Lin forced a smile and returned to the couch. Then, after a brief pause, his jaw dropped. “You—you—!” He couldn’t finish.

“What’s wrong, Young Master? Feeling unwell?” The creature’s voice dripped with faux concern.

“You called me ‘Young Master’?” Mu Lin finally managed.

“Of course! You’ve been so kind to me. From now on, I’ll follow you for all the luxuries!” It giggled.

“Heavens…” Mu Lin slumped onto the couch, defeated.

As Mu Lin prepared to take the floating stone from his ring, his mental senses detected the creature lowering its head and making strange faces. Its trembling body wasn’t out of fear at all—it was trying hard not to burst into laughter.

“Damn it!” Mu Lin silently cursed. Usually, he was the one who played tricks on others all day. This time, however, he had been completely outwitted by a little pet.

Resolute in his decision, Mu Lin approached the creature with a murderous expression and said in a slick tone, “Hey! Little thing, you were the one who said you’d follow this young master from now on! Since you’ve submitted to me, you’re officially my person now!”

He didn’t even glance at the creature, which was grinning widely with drool dripping from its mouth.

“Now that you’re officially my person, from now on when I tell you to chase chickens, you better not go after dogs! In other words, whatever I say is your ultimate command. You need to understand this rule! Otherwise, if you break it, I’ll find you a Xiezhi as a husband! Any objections?” Mu Lin turned to ask the creature.

Looking at the slightly stunned creature with its mouth wide open, he continued without waiting for a reply, “Judging from your expression, you probably don’t have any objections anyway! Well then, I should give you a proper name first. It’s boring calling you ‘kitty’ or ‘puppy’ all the time.”

After a moment of thought, Mu Lin declared, “A name should reflect your personality, appearance, or temper. Alright, from now on, I’ll call you ‘Little Rascal’!”

No sooner had Mu Lin finished speaking than the creature jumped up.

“Hey! That’s such an ugly name! Your taste is clearly that of an illiterate! I already have a name: ‘Ruyi’! Not ‘Little Rascal’!”

Mu Lin stared coldly at the creature. “I said, Little Rascal! When did I ask for your opinion? You were the one who said you’d belong to me from now on. If I don’t give you a new name, how can people know you’re officially my person now?”

He paused. “‘Ruyi’? You actually like such an outdated, personality-less name? Sigh! It seems your IQ really is problematic! No wonder you’ve gone a bit crazy from hunger!”

Mu Lin intentionally spoke with exaggerated sympathy, watching the speechless creature before him.

“If you don’t speak, I’ll take it as agreement! Alright then, from now on, you’ll be called ‘Little Rascal’!”

Mu Lin took a bright green floating stone from his ring and said in a drawn-out tone, “Come here, Little Rascal! Judging from your nature, you should be of the Wood element. This Wood-element floating stone, I now bestow it upon you! From now on, following this young master, you’ll live in luxury and comfort! You’re in luck!”

Upon seeing the floating stone, the creature’s eyes lit up. In a flash, it leapt forward like the wind, swiftly snatching the stone from Mu Lin’s hand. When it landed, it was already hugging the stone tightly in its arms, completely ignoring Mu Lin and fixated only on the treasure in its hands.

Mu Lin hadn’t expected the creature to be so fast. Without using his spatial confinement ability, he would definitely be slower than it. He realized he had underestimated this Feifei. If it weren’t so shameless and mischievous, it might actually be a great help around the house. Thinking of its cheekiness, Mu Lin felt a headache coming on.

Taking advantage of the creature’s current distraction, Mu Lin decided to step out for a while and try to shake it off. He’d let the creature indulge in its joy for now.

Just as Mu Lin reached the door, a soft, delicate voice came from behind, “Master! Where are you going? It’s so late. Don’t tell me you’re planning to leave me behind all by myself?”

Mu Lin nearly stumbled, thinking to himself how quickly the creature had snapped out of its trance—and how quickly it had resumed that tone. If Fen Ni or the others were standing outside the door, he wouldn’t be able to explain himself even if he tried.

“I thought you were enjoying yourself and didn’t want to interrupt your fun, so I decided to take a walk alone,” Mu Lin turned and replied.

“Ohhh!” The creature drew out the sound dramatically. “I thought Master didn’t want me anymore? Well then, Master, go ahead and take your walk. Anyway, I already know where your house is. Even if you don’t come back, I can still find you!”

Hearing this, Mu Lin turned back with a bitter smile, sat down on the sofa, and after a brief thought, suddenly opened his mouth wide in shock. “You! You!” He couldn’t finish a single sentence.

“What’s wrong, Master? Are you feeling unwell?” The creature’s soft voice came again.

“You called me Master?” Finally, Mu Lin managed to speak.

“Of course! Master has been so kind to me! From now on, I’ll follow Master and enjoy all the good things in life!” The creature giggled.

“Heaven help me!” Mu Lin slumped back onto the sofa.
