Chapter 167: Angel (Part 9)

Mu Lin looked at the old man’s frail body and resolute expression, deeply moved beyond words. It was people like him, unsung heroes, who always persisted in upholding their moral principles.

After a brief silence, he said to the old man, “Uncle Zhao, my own matters are trivial and I hardly need your help anymore; I can handle them myself. It’s these children who really need your attention. We must let them know that they are our angels within the overseas Chinese community. Although they have endured all kinds of hardships, there are still many of us behind them who belong to the great Chinese nation. I only hope these children can live free from worries about food and clothing, grow up mentally healthy, become useful members of society, and establish their own space in this Western world so that they will be able to help more Chinese people in the future.”

Uncle Zhao looked at Mu Lin firmly and solemnly replied, “Alright then, my boy! Tell me what you need me to do. Whatever I can manage, I won’t refuse. I know you are a man destined for great things, and I can’t help much with your affairs. If I can just ease your burden regarding these children, I will follow your lead completely.”

Mu Lin did not bother with formalities with the old man, as he deeply valued the man’s character. “Uncle, I plan to allocate five million pounds. Since my current identity cannot be revealed, I intend to entrust this fund to the Douglas Law Firm. They will establish an orphanage here specifically for Chinese children.

Your responsibility, Uncle, will be to supervise the use of these funds. Once the orphanage is established, you will be its director. The recruitment and management of the staff will be under your authority. I believe your compassion will ensure the orphanage thrives.”

After hearing Mu Lin’s words, the old man’s face revealed panic, and he waved his hands frantically, saying, “No! No, my boy, what you’re asking of me is too big. I can only cook and look after children. Being the director is something I definitely cannot do!”

Seeing the old man’s reaction, Mu Lin found it somewhat amusing but didn’t show it on his face. He chuckled and said, “Uncle, don’t panic yet. Hear me out clearly before reconsidering my suggestion.

Firstly, you won’t need to personally handle the fund’s usage or the orphanage’s establishment. After a location is chosen, they will invite you to inspect it. The design will be handled by professionals, so you won’t need to worry about that. Additionally, I will send someone to assist you later.

You only need to ensure the money is properly spent on establishing the orphanage. Once it’s completed, I want you to be the director because I trust you to recruit people with compassion. These professionals will manage the orphanage, and you just need to supervise them, ensuring they don’t mistreat the children. If anyone does harm the children, as director, you can fire them. So, Uncle Zhao, would you still refuse to be such a director?”

After hearing Mu Lin’s explanation, the anxious look on Uncle Zhao’s face finally eased. After a moment of contemplation, he slowly replied, “Alright, for the sake of these poor children, I will take on this role of director. I just hope I won’t mess things up. However, I do hope the assistant you mentioned can come soon.”

Seeing the old man finally agree, Mu Lin let out a sigh of relief. Then he took out several stacks of money and handed them to Uncle Zhao, saying, “Uncle, please take this first. It might take a few more days before we finalize everything. Use this money to rent a better place so the children can live under better conditions. After all, it’s such a cold winter, and the current conditions here are too poor. The children are still growing, and it will be hard to make up for any health issues later.

Also, this building is too dangerous; it could collapse at any moment. For the children’s safety, you should move as soon as possible.”

Uncle Zhao raised his hands repeatedly, refusing, “My boy, I haven’t even spent much of the ten thousand pounds you gave me last time. That money should suffice for now!”

“Uncle, this money isn’t for you to spend; it’s for these lovely children. Don’t argue anymore, just take it,” Mu Lin said as he placed the money on the table.

Then he pulled out a piece of paper and handed it to Uncle Zhao, saying, “This is the contact number at my home in country U. I’ve already informed my family there. Once you settle the children, call this number. They will get in touch with you to cover all the expenses. Until the new orphanage is completed, these children will entirely depend on you, Uncle.”

Gratitude filled Uncle Zhao’s face as he looked at Mu Lin, not knowing what to say. Mu Lin extended his spiritual sense outward and signaled Xiao Laipi, who quickly ran down. Seeing this, Mu Lin bid a reluctant farewell to Uncle Zhao and the children.

Mu Lin, together with Xiao Laipi, arrived at the London office of the Douglas Law Firm in country Y. Since Douglas had called ahead, after Mu Lin provided his alias used here, a senior representative welcomed him personally.

Mu Lin transferred part of the several hundred thousand pounds he had seized from Billy along with money from his own account to establish a separate account at the firm. As it was a charitable donation, Mu Lin could donate anonymously. However, once the funds were deposited into the account, even Mu Lin couldn’t withdraw or redirect them for other purposes. This was a common practice in foreign countries to prevent organized crime groups from laundering money.

After transferring the funds, Mu Lin appointed Claire and Uncle Zhao as supervisors for the use of the money. Now, Mu Lin was simply waiting for Claire to arrive from country U.

Mu Lin also transferred the documents proving ownership of Billy’s assets through the Douglas Law Firm to avoid any traceable links from interested parties.

On their way back, Xiao Laipi grumbled discontentedly, saying to Mu Lin, “Master, we only got four million pounds from that Billy. Why didn’t we sell his newspaper company and villa? That way, you could have saved some money yourself.”

“Haha!” Mu Lin chuckled at Xiao Laipi’s greed, “Even if we sold Billy’s assets, they wouldn’t amount to much. Also, aren’t you afraid Billy might hire someone to sabotage the orphanage later?

Besides, we can’t stay in London all the time to watch over this orphanage. We have many other tasks ahead. Don’t worry; eventually, we will have the government of country Y foot the bill for this fund.”
