Chapter 224: “The July 7th Incident” (Part 1)

It was already deep into the night when Mu Lin and Mizuko were wandering around. “Nakajima-kun, thank you so much for paying me such a generous salary. It has allowed me to invest more money in the stock market and accumulate sufficient funds for my future studies abroad. Thank you!” Mizuko deeply bowed to Mu Lin.

Mu Lin slightly dodged the gesture. “It’s nothing really. You earned it. You provided excellent service, and I offered generous compensation. There’s no need to thank me. Oh, by the way, Mizuko, which country are you planning to study in? A lovely girl like you will surely draw attention wherever she goes. Do you need my help?”

“Thank you for your concern. The stock market is doing very well now, and soon I’ll have earned enough money from it for my studies abroad. Nakajima-kun, I plan to study in country Y. I’ve always heard it’s the cradle of nobility, and I’ve dreamed of studying there since childhood!” Mizuko said, filled with yearning.

At that moment, they passed by a Chinese restaurant that had not yet closed. The alluring aroma of Chinese food wafted into Mu Lin’s nose. If he hadn’t already eaten so much before, he would have really wanted to go in and have another meal. Lately, as part of his role-playing, Mu Lin had not had the chance to eat Chinese food, and he had nearly gone mad with craving. His eyes slightly glanced sideways, catching Mizuko’s faintly mocking smile.

“Mizuko, what’s wrong?” Mu Lin thought his craving must have been noticed by Mizuko.

“Nothing, Nakajima-kun. I was just laughing at and pitying these overseas Chinese people!” Mizuko said mockingly.

“Oh, could you elaborate?” Internally, Mu Lin felt a bit surprised. Mizuko had recently shown herself to be a shy, introverted, and kind-hearted girl, so why did she have such prejudice against overseas Chinese?

“Nakajima-kun, you probably don’t know. During World War II, our great Japanese Imperial Army entered China to help them. Although we eventually lost the war, it had nothing to do with the Chinese. We were defeated by country U! In recent years, overseas Chinese keep demanding that we admit our aggression against China, and Chinese people keep filing lawsuits against our government, demanding compensation. Think about it, would our great Japanese Imperial Army even bother invading such a backward country as China? The Chinese government repeatedly interferes in our internal affairs, constantly demanding that we revise our textbooks, banning our government officials from visiting the Yasukuni Shrine, and even disputing with us over the ‘Senkaku Islands…'” Mizuko said excitedly.

Mu Lin was extremely furious inside, nearly bursting with anger. “Damn it, no wonder she’s a citizen of this rogue nation; truly, there are no good people here!” However, he wanted to know the thoughts of ordinary Japanese people, so he didn’t stop Mizuko and continued listening to her rant.

“Haha, in fact, these Chinese people just want money, don’t they? You wouldn’t know, Nakajima-kun, that in recent years our government has given the Chinese government a lot of unconditional aid and provided many low-interest and interest-free loans. Despite that, they are still not satisfied! It’s as if we owe them something! They are like vampires, trying to suck more of our blood and sweat! If we are so bad, why do those Chinese people still desperately want to come here to study and live?” Seeing Mizuko’s somewhat twisted expression, Mu Lin completely lost all hope for this country. At the same time, he felt a bit ridiculous about his previous sentimentality. What did their lives and deaths have to do with him? He had actually felt some unnecessary sympathy for these scumbags!

Back at the hotel, Mu Lin immediately called Claire. “Claire, without affecting the normal operation of the company, please arrange for more funds from the family to be transferred to Klaus. It would be best to secure an additional 20 billion in loans. Alright, that’s settled. I’ll be back soon!” After hanging up, Mu Lin smiled slightly and then sat cross-legged to practice his martial arts.

The next morning, Klaus called again. “Boss, are you sure you want to increase the funds? Haha, great! Alright, I’ll wait a few more days; that way, I’ll have more confidence. This time, just wait and count the money!”

After breakfast, Mu Lin immediately dismissed Mizuko. He now decided to act alone. In a few days, he would no longer have to worry about these yakuza bosses and could properly deal with them.

Under the manipulation of those with ulterior motives, the stock market slowly began to fluctuate slightly. However, these minor fluctuations were quickly dissipated by the collective enthusiasm of ordinary Japanese people, failing to create even the smallest ripple. Originally, the big Japanese market players had planned to gradually sell off their holdings during these small fluctuations but refrained from doing so, fearing they might alarm the general public.

On July 7th, the previously calm Saikyo stock market suddenly saw a large number of individual investors selling off their shares, causing the previously steadily rising market to plunge by a daily limit down. On the next trading day, even more individual investors joined the selling frenzy. These sellers included both retail investors prepared by Klaus and some local Japanese investors hoping to make quick profits. The massive sell-off trapped the Japanese funds that had been sent in to support the market on the second day, resulting in another daily limit down.

The major institutions had already poured large amounts of capital into the stock market and were just about to reap their profits, leaving little cash reserves in their accounts. Moreover, they believed they had already driven out the speculative U.S. capital. With only these big players left in the market, they never expected such a massive sell-off by individual investors. Now, they wanted the government to intervene in the market on the third day, only to be told that the government would follow market trends. Currently, it was only individual investors acting, with no signs of speculative capital involvement. Premature government intervention might invite interference from the Group of Seven nations, so the government had to consider the consequences carefully.

On the third day, even more individual investors and some small-scale traders joined the selling spree. Although the major players were restrained by the yakuza families and had not yet joined the selling, they were still preparing funds to support the market. However, while the yakuza families could control the medium and large traders associated with them, they had absolutely no control over the general public of individual investors.

The individual investors had already been thrown into panic by the two consecutive limit-downs, so on the third day, even more of them rushed to sell. By the fourth day, even more individual investors joined the selling frenzy. At this point, the speculative U.S. capital also began to take advantage of the chaos. Like a snowball rolling downhill, what had started as a small disturbance had now triggered an avalanche.
