Chapter 50: The Chase

“Rebels are causing trouble!”

The soldiers on and around the city gate simultaneously turned their eyes toward the gate entrance. The city guards assisting in defense remembered the instructions from Lord Beigong well; at the first sign of trouble, they quietly released a carrier pigeon.

Just as the commotion at the city gate reached a fever pitch, in a quiet corner of the city wall only a few hundred meters away, Qiao San emerged from the shadows with Shier Niang on his back. With a flick of his wrist, his night-roaming grappling hook whirred through the air and clanged loudly as it latched tightly onto the top of the wall.

Qiao San, his face masked, rapidly ascended the wall using the hook. In the blink of an eye, he reached the top.

“Great Criminal Hero, not so fast!” Before Qiao San had even steadied himself, a familiar shout pierced the air. Sure enough, fate had brought them together again—it was Beigong Zheng, chasing after him on horseback.

“Darn it!” Qiao San angrily cursed. With his sister-in-law’s life hanging in the balance, he couldn’t afford to waste time. He leapt down from the wall, and the moment his feet touched the ground, he began sprinting rapidly under Shier Niang’s guidance.

“Outta my way! Crack!”

With a whip of his horsewhip, several troublemakers blocking the path were flung aside. As Beigong Zheng rode past, he calmly commanded his Three Eagles and Ten Guards, “Arrest these ruffians, guard the city gate, and be wary of any attempt to distract us. Leave the Great Criminal Hero to me!”

“Ahh, the Great Criminal Hero?” Upon hearing the nemesis of the ruffians’ name, Shaobing and Youtiao couldn’t help but exchange glances. They simultaneously saw intense confusion in each other’s eyes. Wasn’t this exactly what the boss told them to do? Why did it end up benefiting the Great Criminal Hero?! Could it be that…

Mountain after mountain passed beneath their feet, river after river disappeared behind them. Sweat poured down his forehead like a stream. After several hours of running, Qiao San had already left the borders of Liumang Town far behind.

The swift figure, as fast as galloping horses, came to a stop at a crossroads in the wilderness and mountains. Qiao San urgently asked, “Shier, which way now?”

“Master Qiao, put me down so I can take a careful sniff!” Shier Niang clung tightly to the man’s back, her uniquely large breasts pressing firmly against his shoulders and back. What surprised the little fox demoness was that despite the man’s Ten Yang Body, known for lustfulness, he hadn’t reacted at all during their entire journey!

Sigh! Humans are truly strange creatures, completely lacking the “simplicity” of her fox clan!

Though clever, Shier Niang was still quite young for a fox demoness. To understand human nature would indeed require much effort.

“Shier, hurry up!” With his beautiful sister-in-law having fallen into the hands of a flower-picking rogue, how could Qiao San not become extremely anxious and lose his composure? Subconsciously, he placed his hopes on Shier Niang.

“Almost done, almost done!” Pretending to move among the wildflowers and grasses, Shier Niang secretly smiled beneath lowered eyes. She naturally knew exactly where Qing Niang was, because from beginning to end, it had all been a performance she orchestrated herself. This delay was simply because the perfect timing had not yet arrived!

“Heehee…” The little fox demoness almost let her inner joy show on her lips. She not only wanted to help Qiao San win Qing Niang, but also help him completely break with the human authorities, forcing him in the end to turn to the warm embrace of her fox clan!

Her pointed fox ears twitched slightly. Though inwardly delighted, her expression remained anxious and worried. “Master Qiao, go left!”

“Not so fast, you despicable thief!”

Before the two could take a step, a voice that made Qiao San gnash his teeth in anger sounded out.

Sure enough, the famous detective family’s heir, Beigong Zheng, had tracked him down like finding a needle in a haystack, crossing mountains and rivers, abandoning his horse to chase on foot. The dusty young man’s eyebrows stood straight up—this time, he wouldn’t underestimate his opponent again!

“Beigong Zheng, get lost!” Every second counted for his sister-in-law’s life or death. Qiao San had no intention of wasting even a moment on this annoying officer. At the first encounter, he flew into the air sideways, spinning like a whirlwind attacking his opponent!

The young detective’s eyes narrowed. His sword flashed in an instant like blooming fireworks. Facing the fierce spiral sword shadow of the Great Criminal Hero, the tenacious youth did not dodge or evade. Instead, he wielded his sword like a cleaver, chopping downward through the air.

“Clang—” Metal rang out, shaking the sky. Accurately, the young detective’s “cleaver” slammed onto his opponent’s sword tip. The Great Criminal Hero’s deadly move instantly scattered into nothingness. But Beigong Zheng’s expression changed—he had fallen for the trick!

Would Qiao San really engage in a direct clash with the annoying officer? Using the opponent’s force against him, he swiftly backflipped like lightning, his hand sweeping low to scoop Shier Niang, who was standing nearby in shock, into his arms.

“Hmph, despicable rat, you won’t escape this time!”

Beigong Zheng, realizing he had been tricked, revealed his set of small, neat silver teeth. In just an instant, the cunning opponent had already vanished into the mountains and wilderness. The speed was absolutely among the fastest he had ever seen.

Though angry, the young man with the furrowed brow remained calm. He coolly took out a tiny magical bird the size of his thumb from his pocket. “Qicai, track him now!”

That colorful little bird was precisely the Beigong family’s secret weapon, with a sense of smell stronger than a wolfhound and speed faster than a cheetah.

Could the prestigious lineage of legendary detectives really be without a few tricks of their own?!

“Shier, quickly point the way!” Another crossroads stumped Qiao San. Even with his transformed body, he felt exhausted!

Although the Ten Yang Body was immortal and possessed immense energy, for Qiao San, who was ignorant of its use, it was like possessing a treasure without the key to unlock the treasure chest—truly a pity!

“Master Qiao, we don’t go either way. The thief went up the mountain from here!”

Qiao San’s pupils contracted, his killing intent roaring. If the flower-picking rogue had climbed the mountain, that meant he was already near the bandit’s hideout!

“Swish!” His handy grappling hook caught the trunk of a tree halfway up the cliff. Just as Qiao San, his feet full of power, was about to leave the ground, annoying shouts came again!

“Great Criminal Hero, come back to the courthouse with me!” The young detective had appeared again. Though his figure was thin, he stood like a mountain blocking Qiao San’s path. The shining sword blade exuded justice, and his tenacity made the ruffian Qiao San hate him with gnashing teeth.

“Beigong Zheng, are you really the reincarnation of a hanged ghost?!” Qiao San, emotionally agitated, cursed freely. He felt momentarily relieved after the outburst but carelessly forgot to disguise his voice.

“Daring San, it’s really you!” Suspicion became reality. Beigong Zheng’s mind heated up, and the clarity granted by his legendary detective bloodline was instantly clouded by old and new grudges. His killing intent made the sword vibrate with a buzzing sound.

No wonder the Great Criminal Hero wanted to frame him—it turned out he was the annoying Qiao San! It turned out the two people he disliked were actually one and the same!

Qiao San’s eyes trembled, and he couldn’t help feeling regretful. Now the situation had become even more complicated! He wasn’t afraid of fighting, but at this moment, he dared not engage in battle!
