Chapter 7: The Dispute Reignites

When Xiao Yufan returned somewhat out of breath to his rented apartment, he found the door wide open and all his belongings thrown outside, some even landing in the lingering puddles from recent rain.

Anger instantly flared up inside him. He stormed into the apartment with the fury of someone ready to rape and murder Yi Han, but upon entering, he only saw Yi Han sitting calmly on the sofa, leisurely sipping tea.

“Pack up and leave immediately!” Without even looking up, Yi Han glanced coldly at the expensive platinum watch on her delicate wrist and said emotionlessly.

“Why did you throw all my stuff outside? I didn’t say I wouldn’t move out. Are you deliberately trying to make my life difficult?” Burning with rage, Xiao Yufan, forgetting he was facing a beautiful woman, shouted furiously. He had never found this woman appealing; her cold and arrogant demeanor rendered her beauty useless in his eyes.

“You were thirty-five minutes past our agreed time. Since you didn’t come to move your things, I naturally took the liberty to throw them out. Don’t blame me for not reminding you—I told you yesterday!” Yi Han ignored Xiao Yufan’s anger and continued to inspect the now-empty apartment.

Silence… Their breathing was clearly audible…

Xiao Yufan nodded. His anger now needed an outlet, and he hurled a suitcase from near his heel into a puddle. It landed with a splash, scattering open and spilling many items rolling out.

Yi Han looked at Xiao Yufan in shock, her pretty face turning pale, a flicker of tears flashing in the corner of her eyes. Despite her strong exterior, she was still just a woman.

Xiao Yufan gradually calmed down. In that moment, he had indeed been blinded by rage. Actually, the fault wasn’t entirely Yi Han’s. Even though he had been late, shouldn’t she have at least refrained from tossing his things out?

“I’m sorry…” Xiao Yufan didn’t see apologizing as something shameful. He wasn’t someone who put on airs, and besides, it was wrong to get rough with a woman in the first place.

Yi Han was momentarily stunned but said nothing, though her gaze softened slightly.

“Men are just so stressed, so stressed…” The phone rang. Xiao Yufan impatiently pulled out his phone, but seeing the familiar number immediately erased his irritation.

“Hey Xiao, why’d you suddenly call me?” Answering the call, Xiao Yufan switched to a cheerful expression. He didn’t want his father to know how badly he was doing—his rented apartment was even being taken over.

“You can’t call me, but I can’t call you?” Hearing Xiao Yufan’s casual tone, the person on the other end sounded very happy, though there was still a hint of reproach in his voice. After all, parents didn’t ask for much—perhaps just a simple phone call from their child.

“I’ve just been really busy with work, so I haven’t had time to call you two!” Xiao Yufan replied insincerely. Meanwhile, Yi Han, sitting on the sofa, smirked slightly.

“Even if work is busy, you still need to take care of yourself. By the way, I’m in Beijing now and almost at your place. Your mother asked me to bring you some things. I’ll be staying in Beijing for a while this time!”

“What? You’re in Beijing…” Hearing that his father was coming, Xiao Yufan was instantly flustered. Right now, he didn’t even have a place to live. If his father found out, all the lies he had told before would be exposed, and his old man would surely be furious.

“I get off work late, and I really don’t have time to entertain you. Why don’t you check into a hotel first? I’ll visit you when I have time!” He didn’t want his father to see him at his worst, so he quickly made up an excuse, hoping to dissuade him from coming.

“No problem. I know where you live. I’ll just wait for you there. Once I give you the stuff, I’ll leave. I won’t disturb your work. We can talk when we meet!” His father hung up the phone, his expression somewhat dazed. Perhaps this meeting might be the last time they met as father and son…

After hanging up, Xiao Yufan’s eyes looked hollow. He walked directly out the door, first packing Yi Han’s luggage, then bringing his own things back inside.

“I can’t move out today…” With a forced smile, Xiao Yufan said apologetically. He knew this request was somewhat unreasonable, especially since he had just yelled at her, and this place no longer belonged to him.

“Reason!” Yi Han’s voice was still cold, but this time, her slightly upturned lips carried less arrogance. In Xiao Yufan’s eyes, this seemed more like a real, flesh-and-blood person rather than someone detached from the world.

“My father is coming here, and I don’t want him to know that I don’t even have a place to live!” Xiao Yufan didn’t know whether this honest reason would move Yi Han enough to let him stay another night. But even if she refused, he had no intention of leaving. Where else could he go right now?

Surprisingly, Yi Han didn’t object. Watching Xiao Yufan carry his belongings back into the bedroom, her expressive eyes filled with more confusion. She realized she couldn’t quite figure out this seemingly carefree man.

Although Xiao Yufan looked somewhat rugged and even a bit like a rogue, he gave off a very steady vibe. Of course, another reason Yi Han didn’t object was that Xiao Yufan’s reason had touched a sensitive nerve deep within her heart.

“After your father visits, I hope you can move out. I’m only doing this today because I don’t want a father to worry needlessly!”

Looking at the busy Xiao Yufan tidying his stuff, Yi Han’s lips curved into a beautiful smile. She hadn’t planned to let this man, whom she had previously considered a lecher and scoundrel, stay. Today’s concession was only temporary.

“Don’t worry. I’ll naturally leave when the time comes. But I hope you won’t say anything inappropriate when my father comes. Otherwise, you’ll have to take responsibility for the consequences!” Although Yi Han had agreed to let Xiao Yufan stay, he still felt uneasy. If this woman said anything out of line, he would rather not stay at all. He simply wanted his father to feel at ease, so he wouldn’t feel even more guilty…
