Chapter 34: The Ups and Downs of Life

Yi Han Yu’s office was located on the top floor of the entire company building, offering a panoramic view of the surrounding area through the floor-to-ceiling windows. That feeling of looking down from above always brought a sense of exhilaration…

It had to be said that Yi Han Yu’s office was sparsely decorated. The entire floor was dominated by black and gray tones, somber colors that created a melancholic atmosphere—perhaps perfectly matching her dual-natured personality.

“This is the contract, already signed!” Xiao Yufan took the document out of his briefcase and tossed it directly onto the desk in front of Yi Han Yu, a hint of pride evident on his face.

Though she didn’t really believe Xiao Yufan had completed the task so quickly, Yi Han Yu still picked up the contract. When her eyes fell upon the red seal stamped in the section for the buyer’s signature, she couldn’t help but look astonished.

“Did you really finish this yourself?” Even though Yi Han Yu had intended to probe Xiao Yufan’s capabilities, she still found it hard to believe that he could complete such a task in just two days. An eight-million-yuan contract was by no means small change.

“Whether I did it myself or not, does the CEO really want to dig deeper? Can I just say it’s my secret…” Xiao Yufan raised his eyebrows slightly, deliberately avoiding a direct answer. Maintaining a bit of mystery in front of her was definitely necessary.

The atmosphere became somewhat awkward. Yi Han Yu didn’t press further. Since Xiao Yufan clearly had no intention of revealing the truth, she naturally wouldn’t ask again. Still, Xiao Yufan’s identity had become even more mysterious in her eyes. She began to suspect whether this man, who carried himself with a bit of a rogue’s charm, was really the nobody he seemed to be.

“If you don’t want to talk about it, I don’t really care to know. However, since you’ve completed the company’s task, you can stay. But you’ll have to start from the bottom like everyone else. The company won’t grant you any special treatment just because you landed an eight-million-yuan contract.”

“No special treatment needed—just as long as certain people don’t make things difficult for me…” Xiao Yufan replied playfully, his tone clearly implying that if he really stayed at this company, he might end up being pushed around.

“With the kind of profit you’ve brought to the company, who would dare make things hard for you? You’re probably just imagining things. You may leave now. Start officially tomorrow.”

Hearing the clear dismissal, Xiao Yufan had no desire to linger. He always felt a certain sense of pressure when he was with Yi Han Yu, though the reason for this feeling remained unknown to him.

After Xiao Yufan left, Yi Han Yu remained alone in the spacious office, gazing at his gradually disappearing figure, lost in deep thought.

In Yi Han Yu’s eyes, Xiao Yufan was definitely not as simple as he appeared. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have completed an eight-million-yuan contract so effortlessly.

More importantly, the reason she had chosen to rent a place outside the Fifth Ring Road was based on the advice of a so-called master. Now, she was beginning to suspect that perhaps Xiao Yufan was the very “important person” that the master had mentioned.

“It looks like I’ll have to investigate his background again…”

Yi Han Yu murmured to herself. After all, a woman’s curiosity could be extremely strong. She had already looked into Xiao Yufan once before, but the results had shocked her. If Xiao Yufan was truly an ordinary nobody, then many things simply couldn’t be explained.

Of course, Xiao Yufan himself was completely unaware that Yi Han Yu had already set her sights on him. In a particularly good mood, he had already begun daydreaming about the luxurious life that awaited him…

As he stepped out of the company building, Xiao Yufan didn’t even feel the chill in the air, for his heart was burning with excitement. Was this really the end of three years of aimless drifting?

He had originally planned to call Ma Teng to celebrate with a big meal, but he quickly changed his mind. After all, the couple was probably enjoying their romantic time together. Dragging Ma Teng out just didn’t seem right.

Walking among the towering buildings, Xiao Yufan quietly savored this long-forgotten sense of joy. It had been three years, and for the first time, he felt that life could indeed be beautiful—and thankfully, it wasn’t too late.

“Perhaps it really was the matter of my birth chart. Before the age of twenty-five, I was destined to achieve nothing. But from now on, my fate will be in my own hands.”

A surge of ambition welled up inside him. Xiao Yufan looked up at the overcast sky, as if trying to cast away all the accumulated grievances of the past three years. Ahead lay a brand new life. The past had already become the past—something he neither wanted to chase nor recall.

Some people are skilled in mysticism yet can never decipher their own destinies. Xiao Yufan was one of them. He could read the fortune and career paths of others, but he could never see when his own luck would turn. Even the significance of turning twenty-five had been told to him by his master and grandfather.

Feng shui and mysticism are closely connected. Of course, just like the elusive nature of fate, they exist whether you believe in them or not. That’s also why many people, while claiming to believe in science, still hold no aversion toward mysticism.

From the very beginning, everyone’s path in life is already set, gradually diverging in imperceptible ways. And naturally, what each person experiences is entirely different and utterly unpredictable.

This feeling of stumbling blindly through darkness is indeed helpless. Fortunately, Xiao Yufan knew that the ups and downs of his life had already been decided…
