Chapter 40: The Proposal Controversy

In the top-floor office of the company, Burgess was half-sitting on the desk, clearly very relaxed, while Yu Yihan lounged sideways on the chair.

“Hey cousin, these shoes of yours look pretty good—where’d you buy them?” Yu Yihan shifted her body slightly, adjusting to a more comfortable position. As she turned, she caught sight of her cousin’s brand-new shoes.

“You’ve got great taste! These were shipped directly from Italy. This pair alone cost half the price of a car!” Holding a baseball bat, Burgess tapped the leather sole, showing off in an exaggerated manner.

Yu Yihan nodded. For her cousin, money seemed to be nothing more than numbers. After all, he even ran another company of his own.

“Oh, right—I almost forgot to mention the main thing. Actually, I came here today to apologize to my dear cousin…”

“Apologize?” Yu Yihan was surprised. She wondered what Burgess was really up to. Although their relationship was mutually understood, they had never shown any open conflict.

“Do you remember the proposal I told you about last time? The one from our joint partner company?”

“Of course. What about it?”

“The schedule was moved up. The company president told me a few days ago, but right after he told me, my phone died, so I couldn’t get in touch with you. I’m really sorry about that…”

“When was it moved to?” Yu Yihan, of course, suspected that Burgess was behind this, but without any evidence, she couldn’t accuse him outright.

“Tomorrow morning at nine. This proposal is crucial—it affects the company’s entire annual revenue. I’m sure my dear cousin understands how important this is!”

Yu Yihan smiled silently, though her brows furrowed tightly. That meant there was only one afternoon and one night left before the proposal presentation. For a company with no preparation, this was moving far too quickly.

“Of course, I’m sure something as tiny, tiny, tiny as this won’t be a problem for my cousin. Alright, I’ve got a game with friends, so I won’t disturb you anymore. Good luck!”

Waving his baseball bat, Burgess hopped off the desk and headed directly toward the door, even pausing halfway to mimic a baseball swing.

After watching her cousin leave, Yu Yihan exhaled deeply. But soon, she fell into deep thought. This proposal was vital to the company’s entire year of business. If anything went wrong, the consequences would be serious. She never expected the schedule to be moved forward so drastically, leaving the company completely unprepared.

Rubbing her temples, Yu Yihan realized that regardless of whether Burgess had orchestrated this or not, the company still had to face the challenge. Although only one day remained, if they pulled together and worked overtime, there was still a chance to complete the proposal.

“Ms. Li, call a meeting with all department heads!” Knowing that the proposal was unavoidable, Yu Yihan decisively made the decision. She had always believed in meeting challenges head-on—when soldiers came, she’d send generals; when water came, she’d use earth to block it.

“Oh, and bring Xiao Yufan and Lin Pingyue from Team B to the meeting room too…” After giving her instructions, Yu Yihan suddenly thought of something else and called out to Ms. Li, who was already at the door. Both were recent additions to the company, but in Yu Yihan’s eyes, they were rare talents. This proposal required brainstorming, and having two more perspectives could only help.

Needless to say, the company’s execution capability was impressive. Soon, all department heads had gathered in the conference room, and, to their surprise, Xiao Yufan and Lin Pingyue were also seated among the senior executives.

“Everyone already knows the general situation. This proposal is extremely important to the company. I don’t want any mistakes. Please share your thoughts…”

“I think one afternoon and one night simply isn’t enough. Remember, this proposal was originally scheduled to take half a month!” said Manager Xiao Ai helplessly, looking at Yu Yihan seated at the head of the table. Finishing half a month’s worth of work in just one day seemed almost impossible.

“We have no choice. The client is in a hurry. Everyone will need to work late tonight, and we’ll pay triple the regular overtime rate. Let’s try to finish the proposal before nine tomorrow morning. Does everyone have the confidence?”

“Yes!” Right after Yu Yihan finished speaking, two voices rang out in succession—Xiao Yufan and Lin Pingyue. All eyes in the room instantly turned toward them…
