Chapter 15: Discovery of the Safe

“Great! I love your straightforwardness,” Sun Jijun said appreciatively, looking at Shui Miao. After a pause, he suddenly sighed, “Shui Miao, believe it or not, I used to be just like you when I was young. But many things happened later, and I gradually lost my way. Now I don’t even know what the purpose of living is anymore! Your eyes look so determined. Can you tell me, what do you live for?”

Sun Jijun saw a reflection of his childhood self in Shui Miao.

Shui Miao responded casually without hesitation, “For those who care about me and those I care about, so that they can live better.”

This answer was simple yet clear, something Shui Miao had already thought through thoroughly, hence his immediate response.

Sun Jijun was momentarily stunned, surprised by how insightful Shui Miao’s words were. He looked at Shui Miao in astonishment, momentarily at a loss for words.

Then, Shui Miao smiled at Sun Jijun and said, “President Sun, I’m sure you’re looking for me because you urgently need my master to check the feng shui for your villa. Don’t worry about that, my master will definitely help you.”

Shui Miao wasn’t really in the mood for tea and just wanted to get things discussed quickly so he and Chenxiang could go shopping on the street.

Seeing Shui Miao so relaxed, Sun Jijun shook his head, “Yes, I’m in a hurry. Who would’ve thought your grandfather had this issue come up halfway. My father could return from Hong Kong any day now, and he’s especially fond of that villa. As a son wanting to show filial piety, do you have any idea how hard it is for me?”

“Actually, my grandfather should be fine. You could go find Wang Yong at his home,” Shui Miao wanted to say that his grandfather was okay and that Wang Yong had been meddling, but then again, hadn’t his own grandfather wanted to earn Sun Jijun’s money too?

Sun Jijun stared intently at Shui Miao, reading his expressions, and noticed something. “You mean your grandfather is okay? Oh, and the three thousand yuan I gave to Wang Yong, was that enough?”

“Three thousand?” Shui Miao was taken aback. “Wasn’t it one thousand? He only gave my grandfather eight hundred…”

“I see…” Sun Jijun took a deep breath, looked into the distance, and muttered in a heavy tone, “Wang Yong is truly incorrigible. I gave him three thousand, yet he greedily pocketed two thousand. If it weren’t for Master Xiong’s sake, I’d break that scoundrel’s legs.”

Shui Miao suddenly understood. No wonder Wang Yong had been so generous, giving his grandfather eight hundred yuan.

Initially, Shui Miao had held a good impression of Wang Yong, but now he realized Wang Yong was truly a despicable person.

“President Sun, don’t worry. I’ll go back and tell my master about Wang Yong. But…” Shui Miao suddenly thought that his grandfather might be in cahoots with Wang Yong, so telling his master might not help. He paused and quickly added, “If it’s really not possible, I can help you solve the problem.”

“You?”

Sun Jijun looked at Shui Miao in disbelief, licked his lips, and shook his head. “I doubt that will work. The problem with the villa isn’t just about feng shui…”

“I know. It’s about a yin spirit, which is what you usually call a ghost. I’m not afraid of such things. But just to be safe, you should still go find my master first. If he really can’t go, I’ll help you get rid of that yin spirit. But you have to keep this secret; my master mustn’t find out.” Shui Miao, like a young bull unafraid of tigers, assumed all yin spirits were weak.

Sun Jijun was startled, “How do you know this?”

“Uh…”

Shui Miao suddenly realized he had let something slip and quickly covered up, “Oh, it’s like this. After lunch, my master and I went to check out the villa. Since your younger brother Sun Jihong hadn’t arrived yet, we wandered around and accidentally met Wang Yong, who knocked us over with his bicycle…”

“I see…”

Sun Jijun furrowed his brow, not doubting Shui Miao’s words, but he seriously questioned Shui Miao’s abilities.

How could someone so young possibly exorcise ghosts?

If he failed and was harmed by the ghost instead, it would only make things worse.

After careful consideration, Sun Jijun decided to first consult Master Xiong about the situation. After all, he had already gathered the necessary information and done a great deed, even if it meant offending He Zong, it was worth it.

His conversation with Shui Miao subtly changed Sun Jijun’s mindset.

He realized that besides beauty, he could pursue other things—family bonds or true love.

After some contemplation, Sun Jijun headed to Wang Yong’s house.

Chenxiang received more than five thousand yuan in wages and was very happy. Shui Miao helped her pack her luggage at the dormitory, and together they left the garment factory. As they passed through the main gate, the remaining guards hurried out to repay Shui Miao for the cigarettes. Shui Miao said nothing and simply took the money before leaving.

Riding the bike with his little sister behind him, Shui Miao felt a deep sense of happiness.

After having a bite to eat at a small restaurant, Shui Miao took Chenxiang to a clothing store and bought her two sets of clothes. They then strolled around the city streets. At first, Chenxiang was delighted, but gradually she became quiet and pensive, as if something was troubling her.

Sitting behind on the bike, Chenxiang suddenly spoke up, “Shui Miao Gege, I want to go back home once.”

“Go back?” Shui Miao was startled, immediately stopping the bike by the roadside and looking at Chenxiang in confusion. “What’s wrong? Why do you want to go back? Don’t you know what your father is like? Won’t he scold you terribly when you return?”

“No, I’ll tell him I’m going to work in another city with some other girls, and that I can earn more money there. That way, my father won’t stop me.” At first, Chenxiang hadn’t wanted to go back, but after much thinking along the way, she felt going back would bring her peace of mind. After all, it was still her home. Actually, the main reason was that Chenxiang missed her mother dearly. Her mother was a genuinely kind-hearted person who had endured hardship and never had a good life for long. If her daughter left without a word, wouldn’t her mother be worried?

Chenxiang also planned to give most of the more than five thousand yuan she had to her family, as a final act of filial piety.

She shared all her thoughts with Shui Miao.

It indeed seemed like a reasonable plan, but Shui Miao still hesitated, “It does sound reasonable, but what if something unexpected happens?”

“There won’t be any accidents. My father only cares about money. Once I explain it to him, he won’t say a word against it,” Chenxiang said confidently.

Seeing that Chenxiang had made up her mind, Shui Miao had no choice but to nod, “Alright then. Since you insist, going back once isn’t a bad idea. Your mother is a good person. Come on, let’s go buy her a couple of sets of clothes too.”

“Okay!”

Chenxiang finally smiled happily.

Shui Miao had grown up at Chen Jianguo’s house. Although Chen Jianguo had treated him poorly, Chenxiang’s mother had been relatively kind. Feeling grateful, Shui Miao used the remaining money he had to buy two more sets of clothes.

Chenxiang was thoughtful and considerate, also buying some gifts for her father and younger brother.

After agreeing on the time to leave, Shui Miao rode his bicycle to drop Chenxiang off at the village entrance, then hurried back to the city.

Arriving at Wang Yong’s house, Shui Miao knocked on the gate. Wang Yong didn’t come out, but his grandfather appeared instead…

Xiong Ying looked around stealthily, quickly opened the door, waved Shui Miao in urgently, and whispered, “Hurry, hurry, you’ve interrupted my important business.”

“What important business?”

Shui Miao was puzzled as he quickly wheeled his bike into the courtyard.

Xiong Ying quickly shut the door and leaned close to Shui Miao, whispering, “Wang Yong was summoned by Sun Jijun. I’m taking this opportunity to search for that treasure.”

Finding and seizing the treasure with powerful spiritual energy hidden at Wang Yong’s house was Xiong Ying’s main objective all along.

Upon hearing this, Shui Miao’s heart stirred. He quickly lowered his voice and asked, “Have you found it yet? What kind of treasure is it?”

“Let’s not talk about it. The item is locked in a safe, and I can’t open it!” Xiong Ying explained, then turned and walked toward the stairs inside the house. This villa had an internal staircase, with several rooms upstairs. One of them was Xiong Ying’s bedroom, which contained three wooden cabinets filled with numerous antiques. After searching for a long time, Xiong Ying finally found a hidden door and discovered the safe. He had studied it for a while but dared not act rashly, when suddenly Shui Miao came knocking at the door.

Shui Miao followed his grandfather upstairs and saw the safe, his heart immediately stirred. He whispered excitedly, “Grandpa, I can open this safe!”

“What! You can open it?”

Xiong Ying’s eyes lit up in astonishment.
