Chapter 39: Seven-Star Soul Stabilizing Talisman

Shui Miao suddenly felt a strange sense of satisfaction, as if she had become smarter, after her words proved accurate.

“I originally wanted to befriend you and help you search for spiritual energy to cultivate,” Li Weimin said firmly, suddenly turning cold. “But now you accuse me of causing you trouble and think me so malicious. If that’s how you feel, then I have nothing else to say. Let’s erase the past and go our separate ways—your path and mine shall never cross again. But if you dare ruin my plans again, we won’t be done so easily.” He spoke with conviction, as if he were truly breaking ties with Shui Miao forever.

In reality, however, they barely knew each other, and Shui Miao didn’t even know his name.

Shui Miao didn’t bother to listen to his words.

“Mind your own business. Do I look like I have nothing better to do?”

Shaking her head, Shui Miao turned and walked away.

Who knew when she would return this time? She had enough to deal with handling her own affairs without getting involved in the business of evil spirits.

“Leave then, and don’t ever come back—you’ll regret it!”

Li Weimin screamed hysterically from inside the room, clearly furious.

What a strange situation…

Shui Miao scoffed, finding it amusing. Was she supposed to feel guilty after being spit at once—only for this ghost to try clinging to her now? It seemed this female ghost wasn’t a gentle soul when she was alive either. Forget the fact that they were from two different worlds; even if she were alive, Shui Miao doubted she could tolerate such a bold, aggressive woman approaching a guy like that. She wasn’t exactly easy on the eyes, either.

Shui Miao could tell the ghost wanted to cling to her.

But she couldn’t figure out why—what was so special about herself that this bizarre spirit would take an interest?

Could it be that the ghost wanted to use her for something?

That seemed unlikely. Shui Miao wasn’t stupid, and the ghost didn’t seem like a pitiful soul wrongfully killed, so there was no need to seek revenge on her behalf.

“Shui Miao, what’s going on?”

Xiong Ying had been waiting impatiently outside. He was worried something might happen to her.

Now, Shui Miao was his little treasure—whenever she gambled, she only won, never lost. Everyone loved her for that alone.

“Not much, just a stubborn female ghost…”

As Shui Miao lifted her head, she saw Auntie Wu standing not far away. Auntie Wu stood behind her grandfather, her face pale, glancing nervously into the house every so often, clearly terrified and worried something might happen to the man inside.

“A female ghost!”

As soon as Xiong Ying heard that, his eyes lit up. He immediately strode toward the house.

Auntie Wu followed closely behind.

Shui Miao figured her grandfather must have some way of dealing with ghosts. She had said she wouldn’t get involved, but she hadn’t said her grandfather wouldn’t. This was an evil spirit that possessed people at will—she deserved to be dealt with. If her grandfather could destroy her, that would be even better. After their conversation, Shui Miao felt no sympathy for the ghost at all—she wanted to see her eliminated.

Shui Miao had a strong sense of justice and couldn’t stand to see the weak being bullied.

Judging from the ghost’s behavior, she must have been a strong-willed, domineering woman in life. Li Dafu had a short temper, and it was only natural that this kind of person would lead to such consequences.

After a brief pause, Shui Miao suddenly snapped back to her senses. She had let herself get worked up over an evil spirit whose identity wasn’t even confirmed yet. She had even imagined all sorts of things—wasn’t that just creating trouble for herself?

Following Auntie Wu to the front door, she looked inside. The gray aura had already vanished, and Li Weimin had opened his eyes, unaware of what had just happened.

After a quick check, Xiong Ying confirmed that Li Weimin was fine.

To reassure Auntie Wu, Xiong Ying had her fetch a pair of scissors, placed a talisman under Li Weimin’s pillow, and offered a few words of comfort before finally leaving.

On the way back, Shui Miao carried the bag of money as she followed behind Xiong Ying.

After walking a short distance, Xiong Ying slowed his pace and asked, “Shui Miao, what exactly did Li Weimin say to you just now?”

“Not much. He accused me of helping Wang Yougui sit on the green stone, which disrupted his feng shui setup. Then he blamed me for interfering when I tried to help Li Dafu. He said he wasn’t done with me yet, that he wanted to use me against Li Dafu. I refused, and during our conversation, I realized she was a female ghost. I guessed she had been a city girl in life, and she got scared, telling me to stay out of her business. Then I left.” Shui Miao summarized the situation, though she deliberately kept her mastery of the Yin-Yang Five Elements Kung Fu a secret—her grandfather wouldn’t believe her anyway.

“I see. Now that she’s worried, we don’t have much to fear,” Xiong Ying stroked his beard and exhaled in relief. “Good thing it’s not some other kind of evil spirit. If you ever encounter other types of evil spirits in the future, remember to be extremely cautious. It’s best not to provoke them, or the consequences could be terrible.”

“Yeah, I understand.”

Shui Miao decided to return to Zhonghai and continue her life there. Being a big city, it didn’t have all these weird disturbances like the countryside.

“Grandpa, look! What’s Li Dafu doing over there?”

As they walked, Shui Miao suddenly noticed, a hundred meters or so ahead, Li Dafu locked in a struggle with Lame Li. They were tugging at each other like they were fighting!

Xiong Ying looked up and saw Li Dafu surrounded by a gray aura. He must have been possessed again.

“Hurry, help him!”

By the time Shui Miao and Xiong Ying reached them, Li Dafu was already lying motionless on the ground. A talisman was stuck to his forehead. Lame Li sat nearby, panting heavily, clearly exhausted.

“He… damn it… just because the tiger doesn’t show his teeth… doesn’t mean I’m a weak cat…”

Lame Li glanced sideways at Shui Miao and Xiong Ying, still catching his breath.

Xiong Ying stepped forward and examined the talisman on Li Dafu’s forehead. His eyes suddenly lit up as he murmured, “This looks like the Seven-Star Soul-Stabilizing Talisman! A Taoist master from Maoshan created this talisman after dreaming of the Big Dipper. It’s said to be able to stabilize any soul. Only true disciples of Maoshan would ever learn of such a talisman—it’s never passed outside the sect!”

“Brother Li, where did you get this talisman?”

Xiong Ying was astonished. Such talismans were extremely rare—he had only heard vague descriptions from a Taoist friend before, and now he was actually seeing one in person!

Upon hearing this, Shui Miao quickly took out her phone and snapped several photos of the talisman.

Lame Li’s phone was too old to have a camera, and he had never seen a phone with such a feature. Not understanding what Shui Miao was doing, he shouted angrily, “No peeking! This is my secret technique—you’re stealing my knowledge, stealing it!”

Lame Li cried out desperately, but he was too exhausted to even stand up.

She had already taken the pictures—who was he to stop her?

Shui Miao treated the photos like a precious treasure, quickly saving them and putting her phone away, muttering, “Fine, don’t let me see. What’s the big deal? It’s just a piece of old paper anyway.”

“Just a piece of old paper!?”

Upon hearing her words, Lame Li became furious. He immediately sat cross-legged, forming a hand seal, and declared, “Today, I’ll show you narrow-minded frogs the true power of this ‘old paper’! Seven-Star Soul-Stabilizing Talisman—Divine Presence Descends, Evil Spirits Perish, All Souls Vanquished! Perish! Perish! Perish! Perish! Perish! Perish! Perish!”
