Chapter 311: Defying Fate (Part 16)

Although Lin Xue was tough and had a rather masculine personality, she was still a woman — a youthful, intellectual one at that.

As Shui Miao grabbed her, she immediately let out a soft moan, her face radiating a myriad of charming expressions…

“It’s all better now, Lin Jie!”

Surprisingly, she wasn’t wearing a top. Her skin was elastic and soft, and Shui Miao almost hated to withdraw his hand. He pushed Lin Xue aside and, with an innocent look on his face, asked, “What’s wrong? Are you still uncomfortable anywhere?”

Shui Miao was being deliberately cheeky — he knew exactly what he had done.

Lin Xue felt completely flustered, unsure whether she had truly encountered some evil spirit or what had happened. When asked if she still felt discomfort, she suddenly snapped back to her senses, quickly opened the car door and got out. Yet that maddening, warm sensation still lingered provocatively. Shui Miao followed her out and, seeing her embarrassment, deliberately drew a talisman in his palm and gave her a symbolic palm strike from a distance, simultaneously withdrawing the spiritual energy. Lin Xue let out a long sigh of relief.

As the strange sensation vanished, Lin Xue shot Shui Miao a glare mixed with reproach and, her emotions in turmoil, opened the car door again, returned to the driver’s seat, put on her headset, and drove off to catch up with the convoy.

Lin Xue remained silent, her heart in chaos.

The lingering pleasurable warmth still flushed her cheeks.

Sitting in the back, Shui Miao felt a bit strange himself, as if he had returned to his old self — suddenly finding interest in women again.

After all, Shui Miao was still a young man in his early twenties, full of youthful vigor, naturally curious and longing for the opposite sex.

Under the influence of his restless emotions and lustful thoughts, Shui Miao deliberately asked, “Sister Lin Xue, what exactly happened to you just now? Was the place you stayed last night not clean?”

After saying that, he couldn’t help but admit to himself how shameless he was.

Lin Xue gritted her teeth, casting an annoyed glance at Shui Miao through the rearview mirror, “Shui Miao, I’d better not find out that it was you messing with me behind the scenes. If it really was you, I swear I’ll make you regret it!”

She thought for a moment and became even more convinced it was Shui Miao’s doing.

“Unfair, Sister Lin!” Shui Miao quickly protested.

“I didn’t even know what I did — how can you not believe me?”

“Hmph! Like I’d ever believe you — no man is good!” The more Lin Xue thought about it, the more certain she became that Shui Miao was behind it. It couldn’t be any evil spirit — it had to be him.

“Hehe…”

You call yourself a good guy? You’ve been investigating me, Shui Miao thought with a faint smile.

Lin Xue immediately pressed, “What are you laughing at?”

“Nothing, just randomly laughing,” Shui Miao replied, licking his lips and pointing at the mirror. “Sister Lin, look quickly — the beautiful woman driving behind us looks really familiar. Isn’t that Chu Miaoyi?”

It turned out that Lin Xue had turned off her headset. Thinking something was wrong, Captain Lin had immediately asked Chu Miaoyi to speed up and catch up.

Seeing this, Lin Xue hurriedly turned her headset back on and whispered softly, “I’m fine, no need to follow so closely.”

“Follow so closely? What does that mean? Are you actually a cop, Sister Lin?” Shui Miao murmured deliberately, “Oh! So what you said earlier was all fake?”

Lin Xue had spoken softly, but Shui Miao had still overheard.

Shui Miao was intentionally provoking her, wanting to test how she would respond — would she continue to hide the truth, or would she finally come clean with him? From Shui Miao’s perspective, he hoped she would be honest, which would show that she truly didn’t consider him an outsider. If she stayed silent, he would continue playing pranks on her.

After all, she was the one investigating him. Lin Xue naturally wouldn’t tell the truth and instead improvised, “What nonsense are you spouting? Maybe you’re just seeing things. Oh, I get it now — that’s why you’ve been so cold to me. You like Miaoyi, don’t you?”

Knowing Lin Xue had turned on her headset again, Shui Miao deliberately raised his voice, “Yeah, I do like her, but unfortunately she doesn’t like me. Oh, Sister Lin, you still haven’t explained what happened earlier. You looked really scary — I think you must have encountered some evil spirit last night. If I hadn’t saved you in time, the consequences would have been unimaginable!”

Hearing this, Chu Miaoyi in the car behind quickly asked, “Sister Lin, what happened to you?”

Lin Xue couldn’t directly respond to Chu Miaoyi, so she shrugged indifferently, “Nothing serious, just a bit uncomfortable. Probably didn’t sleep well last night. You better shut up, kid, and stop talking about evil spirits all the time, acting like some fake Taoist priest. Or I’ll arrest you as a cult member.”

Hearing Lin Xue was fine, Chu Miaoyi relaxed.

Shui Miao, however, wouldn’t let it go, “What do you mean nothing serious? You scared me half to death just now, and you even touched me all over…”

Upon hearing this, Lin Xue quickly turned off her headset and shouted at Shui Miao, “You little brat, if you keep talking nonsense, I’ll rip your mouth off!”

She certainly didn’t want Chu Miaoyi to hear about that embarrassing incident — if it got out, she would be utterly humiliated.

Shui Miao blinked innocently, “What nonsense? You did touch me, and you even kissed me! I was almost sexually assaulted by you, and you won’t even admit it!”

“You… you wait!”

Lin Xue was nearly hysterical, but helplessly knew that Shui Miao was telling the truth.

Seeing that Lin Xue couldn’t do anything to him, Shui Miao muttered inwardly, “Hmph! Who told you to secretly investigate me? I considered you a good friend, yet you brought a whole carload of special police to hassle me. If I don’t mess with you, who else should I mess with? I just gave you a little pleasure this time — next time I’ll go all out…”

Suddenly realizing how evil he was becoming, Shui Miao quickly retracted his thoughts.

The car fell into a brief silence.

After a while, Lin Xue turned her headset back on and resumed driving normally.

But soon, Shui Miao opened his mouth again, “Sister Lin, did you really get possessed by something last night?”

Here we go again…

Lin Xue was speechless and quickly turned off her headset, turning to glare at Shui Miao, “You little brat, if you dare bring this up again, I’ll really castrate you!”

Shui Miao widened his eyes in exaggerated shock, subtly activating his spiritual energy to turn Lin Xue’s headset back on. Then, in a tone of absolute disbelief, he exclaimed, “Sister Lin, how can you say such a crude thing to me? You’re a woman, after all!”

“Crude? Hmph! You haven’t seen crude yet!” Lin Xue’s tomboyish temper flared.

Shui Miao scratched his head and said in a serious tone, “Sister Lin, I hope you won’t touch me like that again. We are of different genders — physical contact should be avoided.”

“Pfft! Pretending to be so innocent! You even grabbed my breasts!” Lin Xue, unaware her headset was on again, had no idea that Chu Miaoyi had heard everything.

Shui Miao quickly retorted, “Come on! I was just trying to exorcise evil spirits for you. Could I really stand by and do nothing while you were possessed?”

“Exorcise? Don’t act like you saved my life! You’re the one who created that thing, I know it! Don’t think I don’t know!” Lin Xue had no solid evidence, or else Shui Miao would already have been beaten into a pulp.

“Hey, Sister Lin, are you getting this wrong? I’ve always considered you a good friend, yet you keep framing me like this? Sure, I do practice internal energy, but are you seriously claiming I manipulated you with my spiritual power? That’s just ridiculous!”

Hearing all this, Chu Miaoyi was stunned!

Captain Lin dropped her headset and shouted furiously, “Nonsense! Complete nonsense!”

Chu Miaoyi blushed, unable to believe that Lin Jie, usually so bold and fearless, had actually flirted with Shui Miao. Truly a woman of great courage, doing whatever she pleased!

Hearing the shout from the headset, Lin Xue was startled and quickly turned it off again.

Captain Lin was furious, almost foaming at the mouth, “This is unacceptable! I must replace Lin Xue immediately. Miaoyi, prepare yourself — I’ll assign you to take over her position.”

“Might not be that serious, Captain. Maybe Lin Jie was just saying that on purpose, trying to provoke Shui Miao into revealing the truth,” Chu Miaoyi, still blushing, couldn’t stop thinking about how Lin Jie had actually physically interacted with Shui Miao, making her heart race.

“Maybe…”

Captain Lin, stubbornly proud and suffering the consequences, held his head in one hand and waved at Chu Miaoyi, “You keep monitoring. I need a rest.”

“Yes, Uncle…”

Chu Miaoyi covered her face with both hands, lowered her head, and continued listening.

How did the headset turn on again? I clearly turned it off! Lin Xue felt suspicious, occasionally glancing at Shui Miao through the rearview mirror. Shui Miao sat in the back, pretending to be an innocent, delicate, pure young boy — a look that made Lin Xue angrier and more restless by the second. The more she looked, the more she wanted to beat him up, and even strip him naked and humiliate him thoroughly.

Lin Xue had always been a tough woman, interacting with all kinds of people in society — such violent thoughts weren’t unusual for her.

“Hey…”

Suddenly, Shui Miao grinned, making a disgusted face.

“You little brat, what trick are you playing now?” Lin Xue had been looking for an excuse to confront him, unaware that the headset had been turned on again by Shui Miao’s spiritual power.

Shui Miao grinned, “Sister Lin, I can see something evil in your eyes!”

“Evil? What evil?”

“It’s just a feeling…” Shui Miao shook his head, “I’m embarrassed to say it outright, but it’s definitely not innocent. I feel like you’re the big bad wolf, and I’m just a helpless little white rabbit.”

“Haha…”

Hearing this, Lin Xue felt a slight stir in her heart — the boy was surprisingly accurate.

After a pause, she asked gently, “Shui Miao, between me and Miaoyi, who do you think is prettier?”

“That’s obvious — Miaoyi, of course.” Shui Miao didn’t spare her any feelings.

Surprisingly, Lin Xue didn’t get angry. She continued gently, “But think about it — the intimate moments we had back in Jing Shui Village, and just now… If Miaoyi found out, do you think she would still like you?”

“Sister Lin, I know you have some feelings for me, but I won’t allow you to insult my feelings for Miaoyi. My affection for her isn’t physical — it’s pure and heartfelt. It’s a clean love, without a single selfish thought. Just seeing her makes me feel happy.”

He paused, looking at Lin Xue’s back, and shook his head, “You don’t understand what real love feels like. What you feel for me is more about desire and possession, not true love.”

“Tch, you’re not completely stupid after all!”

Hearing this, Lin Xue shook her head with a faint smile, not denying it. She knew deep down that Shui Miao was right.

Inside the car, Chu Miaoyi’s heart was pounding. She gently turned off her headset, took a deep breath, lowered her head, and softly bit her lip. Without turning around, she said, “Captain, I think I should consider your suggestion seriously. Maybe it really would be better if I replaced Sister Lin.”

Chu Miaoyi had been deeply moved by Shui Miao’s words.
