Chapter 303: The Reckoning of Fate

Ning Zining gazed at Qian Ye, unable to hide his shock.

Qian Ye smiled and said, “Rest assured, I have no intention of courting death. If I can’t defeat the King of Azure Sun, I’ll run, circling the Imperial Capital. I’ve heard that the Great Array of the Imperial Capital is specifically designed for the Evernight. As a human sovereign, its effect on me should be limited.”

A sovereign always hovering by the Imperial Capital, waiting for the right moment to strike—it was not hard to imagine what sort of situation it would create. It seemed that, from now on, aside from the King of Azure Sun, no one in the Empire could freely enter or leave the Imperial Capital. The new sovereign appointed by Emperor Hào, and the other sovereign who was already nearing the end of his days, clearly were no match for Qian Ye. After all, the number of grand dukes that had fallen under Qian Ye’s hands was already more than just one.

Ning Zining looked at Qian Ye and asked, “Is there no other way?”

“Choosing one out of three, I’ve been very restrained. Otherwise, would you really hand over the leader to me?”

Ning Zining sighed, “What would you do if you got the leader anyway?”

“Not much. I’d decapitate them and display their head, then exterminate their clan. That’s all.”

“Is that enough?”

“Yes, it is.”

Ning Zining replied, “If that’s the case, then you don’t actually need to go to the Imperial Capital.”

“Are you the leader? Haha!”

“Of course not me. He has already fallen, and you can’t touch his descendants.”

Qian Ye was taken aback, “Could it be…?”

“The old king himself.”

This time, it was Qian Ye who fell silent, not speaking for a long while.

Ji Wentian spent his entire life for the human race, and in the end, he also met his death bravely. With his character, he naturally wouldn’t allow Evernight to add another sacred mountain. Only Qian Ye knew that, after awakening, Ye Ying had actually merged her past and present self, with the consciousness of the current Ye Ying taking the upper hand. Normally, such a powerful being, once awakened, could easily crush the present will and return to their ancient self.

In the eyes of an ancient sacred mountain, humans would likely be considered even less significant than ants. Ji Wentian’s desire to prevent any potential threat was only natural.

Now, with Ji Wentian gone, his descendants were mostly mediocre. The only ones with extraordinary talent were Ji Tianqing and her daughter with Qian Ye, Ji Yuan.

At this moment, Qian Ye finally understood that it was difficult to distinguish right from wrong.

Even if the Evernight and Dawn were adjacent, they were eternally separated.

Closing his eyes, Qian Ye slowly said, “What should I do?”

“Do what you want, resolve your unfinished business, and then bring her out.”

“There seems to be one more major matter.”

“What?”

“What is the Dawn of the Celestial Radiance?” Qian Ye asked.

“I don’t know either. If you want to know, only one person can answer you—Emperor Hào. Perhaps the Riverbank King might know something as well,” Ning Zining said.

“Forget it, it’s none of my concern.”

Qian Ye walked onto the deck and looked into the distance.

“What are you planning to do next?”

“As you said, resolve some unfinished business, travel around, and when everything is ready, bring her out.” After saying this, Qian Ye turned to look at the channel still spewing dark energy, and said, “During this time, we can see how far the Empire and Evernight can go in their battle.”

“It’s not certain they will fight.”

Qian Ye pointed at the channel, “Then are you going to let it continue to feed dark energy to Evernight?”

Ning Zining shrugged, “Such a small channel gives us plenty of time to decide. There’s no need to rush into a war with Evernight now.”

“Is that so? Suit yourself.” Qian Ye gazed into the void and suddenly said, “Don’t you think the stars in the sky are a bit glaring today?”

Ning Zining came to stand beside Qian Ye, looking in the same direction. However, no matter how he looked, he couldn’t find anything different about the stars compared to before.

Qian Ye narrowed his eyes, “I feel like there are some extra stars.”

Ning Zining looked more carefully but still couldn’t see anything. Astrology was not his forte.

Qian Ye suddenly felt a wave of irritation, and a radiant light flowed down his body like water. Wherever the light passed, countless threads of starlight emerged from the void, connecting to Qian Ye.

Qian Ye looked down and saw a new line of fate appear, linking to him.

He reached out and gently touched the new fate line, smiling, “It seems my divination skills aren’t too bad. I can tell someone is plotting against me again. This line is from divination, right?”

“Indeed.”

“I’ve thought of a better idea. How about this?”

With a flick of his finger, Qian Ye snapped the fate line. A small, dark flame traveled along the thread, quickly burning into the void.

In the Imperial Capital, in the underground hall of the Heavenly Mechanism Pavilion, dozens of Heavenly Mechanism Diviners sat in their respective corners. Some were silently calculating, others meditating.

A sudden, agonizing scream broke the silence. A young Heavenly Mechanism Diviner clutched his throat, his eyes bulging, blood flowing from his mouth and nose. He fell backward, convulsed a few times, and then lay still.

“What happened?” A middle-aged Heavenly Mechanism Diviner rushed over, kneeling beside the young diviner. He lifted the eyelids and saw nothing but a blood-red eye, the entire pupil had burst.

Taking a sharp breath, he exclaimed, “Such a fierce backlash!”

Just then, another scream echoed. A Heavenly Mechanism Diviner behind him collapsed, blood spreading from beneath him.

The middle-aged diviner stood up, intending to help, but the screams continued one after another, and the diviners fell one by one.

Chilled to the bone, he glanced at the final calculations of a dying Heavenly Mechanism Diviner. Suddenly, as if struck by lightning, he shouted, “Stop all calculations related to Qian Ye and Ye Ying! Abandon them, even those indirectly related!”

But it was too late. Several more Heavenly Mechanism Diviners fell silently, and within moments, half the diviners in the underground hall were dead.

The middle-aged diviner felt cold in his hands and feet, his mind blank. He knew how long it took to cultivate these diviners and the resources required. Now, with over half of them killed by backlash, he didn’t know how to explain it.

Suddenly, a sharp pain stabbed his brain, like a steel cone driving in, and the pain persisted, as if the cone was still twisting inside!

Overwhelmed by pain, the diviner felt his face wet. Wiping it, he found his hands covered in blood!

Realization dawned, yet disbelief followed, “Even if I calculated three days ago, I couldn’t escape? Who is this Qian Ye?!”

Staggering, his vision blurred, and the pain made him lose focus. At this moment, a brief clarity came, and he knew his time had come.

Looking at the ravaged hall, he cried out in sorrow, “Is it heaven’s will to destroy our Great Qin?!”

Before his eyes, a pair of deep blue eyes appeared. These eyes were familiar to him, and he knew every detail of Qian Ye.

In a daze, he saw Qian Ye smile and say, “I just wanted to destroy you.”

In the void, Qian Ye flicked his finger, severing a faint fate line, and said, “How was that?”

Ning Zining sighed, “They were just following orders. Was this really necessary?”

Qian Ye said calmly, “If everyone’s sin does not deserve death, why should Ye Ying be the only one to die?”

Ning Zining forced a smile, “What am I supposed to say to that?”

“Simple. Go back and say that I am now a sovereign, and I am the big picture. For the sake of the big picture, a few Heavenly Mechanism Diviners dying is no big deal. After all, no one really likes them anyway.”

Ning Zining didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, and asked, “Where are you going next?”

“To Yōng Continent. I want to see how my followers are doing.”
