Chapter 1021: Soul Fusion

The silver box was enveloped by the green light emanating from the wooden ruler above, and with a flash of spiritual light, the silver radiance instantly vanished, returning to an eerie silence.

It was utterly bizarre!

If someone were to glance around the table where the silver box was enshrined, they would be even more startled. About ten zhang away from the altar, a figure stood motionless.

The man wore a blue robe and a red headband, his face adorned with flickering green patterns—it was none other than Hua Tianqi, the Grand Elder of the Poison Saint Sect.

At this moment, however, Hua Tianqi’s eyes were slightly closed, his expression wooden, and blood trickled unceasingly from his seven orifices—ears, nose, and more. Were it not for the faint rise and fall of his chest, anyone would have mistaken him for a corpse.

The other three elders of the Poison Saint Sect were nowhere to be seen, having failed to enter the hall alongside him.

From beyond the hall’s entrance, faint explosive sounds could be heard, as though someone was trapped within some kind of restriction.

Meanwhile, in the mysterious space where the silver wolf was confined, the purple light in the black wolf head’s eyes faded, and a woman’s voice emerged from its mouth:

“Bloodflame, so it’s you. I had thought you’d long since retreated to the Sacred Realm. I never imagined you’d remained in the human world until now.”

The voice was melodious, bearing a striking resemblance to the woman who had once trapped Xiang Zhili, though it lacked the seductive charm and carried an added layer of frost.

“Greetings, my lord. When I set out back then, I was already a step too late and nearly perished under human pursuit. If not for those human cultivators believing I knew the location of a passage between the Sacred Realm and the human world—intending to slowly extract my soul for interrogation—I would not have survived to this day,” the ancient demon replied respectfully.

“Oh? Your luck wasn’t entirely bad. The spatial rift leading to the Ethereal Spirit Garden shattered shortly after we entered the human world. There was no passage left to speak of,” the black wolf head remarked, nodding calmly as it recalled the ancient war between humans and demons, showing no trace of agitation.

“So this is the ancient demon who nearly exterminated the ancient cultivators?” The big-headed freak observed the exchange between the ancient demon and the giant wolf with cold detachment. Seeing the black wolf head speak in a measured, feminine tone, devoid of any demonic ferocity, he couldn’t help but feel inwardly puzzled.

“Since you’ve come here, you must have a plan. But let me warn you—freeing me won’t be as simple as you think. For one, the Great Heavenly Star Chains binding me are beyond your current power to break. This artifact was passed down from the Spirit Realm specifically to restrain our kind,” the black wolf head said coolly, glancing at the dense black chains covering its body.

“Fear not, Sacred Ancestor! I have made thorough preparations. Not only have I enlisted the aid of Fellow Daoist Ye, but I have also gathered several demonic artifacts capable of breaking these chains,” the ancient demon declared confidently.

“If you possess demonic artifacts, then there is indeed a chance to sever the Great Heavenly Star Chains. However, even so, I cannot allow you to act immediately,” the black wolf head shook its head.

“Why not?”

The four-armed, two-headed ancient demon was taken aback, its eyes flashing with purple-red light. The freak from the Ye Clan was equally stunned.

“It’s simple. The Star Chains are not the most formidable restriction binding me. Look beneath your feet,” the black wolf head sighed softly.

“Beneath our feet?”

The ancient demon and the big-headed freak instinctively looked down, but aside from the black teleportation array they had arrived through, there was nothing else.

Both were utterly baffled.

“Do you truly believe this is an independent space that can be entered and exited at will? This is merely a section of the eighth layer isolated by the power of a Heaven-reaching Spirit Treasure. The moment you act recklessly, the treasure will activate and expel you. Re-entering won’t be so easy. Moreover, external forces are not the primary reason I’ve been trapped here for so long. The greatest trouble lies with this Silvermoon Demon Wolf’s body,” the black wolf head explained, shifting slightly to glance at the still-slumbering silver wolf head on the opposite side of its body, its eyes finally revealing a trace of gravity.

Neither the ancient demon nor the big-headed freak were ordinary individuals. Hearing this, they turned their gazes to the silver wolf head—so different from the black one—and began to grasp the implications.

“Wasn’t the Silvermoon Wolf Demon’s soul devoured by the Sacred Ancestor? Did something unexpected occur?” the ancient demon asked hesitantly.

“Hmph! Do you think I was captured by accident? This wolf demon tampered with its body when I possessed it. It had two primary souls—one I severely wounded, forcing it to flee, making me believe I was safe. The other hid within the body using a secret technique and ambushed me during my critical battle with the Three Elders of Kunwu. That’s how I ended up sealed away for millennia,” the black wolf head replied, a flicker of anger in its voice.

“Two primary souls? Could it be the rare case of dual souls in one body?” the big-headed freak exclaimed in shock.

“You humans are quite knowledgeable. This silver wolf indeed possessed two entirely independent souls. Originally, it had only one head, but when the second soul emerged, a second head appeared to contest control of the body. The wolf demon’s cultivation method was bizarre—even after possessing its body for so long, I never detected the anomaly,” the black wolf head mused, still seemingly perplexed.

“Then… the wolf demon’s second soul still exists?”

“Of course. After being captured by the human cultivators, I learned that this Silvermoon Wolf Demon was the favored consort of the Heavenly Kui Divine Wolf, one of the Seven Great Demon Kings of the Spirit Realm, and one of the few true Spirit Realm beings to descend to the human world. I only succeeded in possessing it because it had just arrived, weakened. At its peak, as a mere fragment of a soul, I might not have prevailed. But the revelation of its dual souls caught me off guard and cost me dearly. By the time I was captured, I had already demonized most of its body. Even then, the humans couldn’t expel me or risk destroying the body, so they sealed me in the Demon Suppression Tower,” the black wolf head recounted leisurely.

While the ancient demon took this in stride, the big-headed freak was stunned by these ancient secrets.

“So… the second wolf soul is still within this body?” the ancient demon asked with a bitter smile, all four eyes fixed on the silver wolf head.

“Not at the moment. But soon, she will return. In a way, you’re fortunate to have awakened me now,” the black wolf head chuckled softly.

“Sacred Ancestor, what do you mean?” the ancient demon tensed.

“Simple. When the ancient cultivators sealed me here using the Black Wind Banner’s Spirit-Severing Zone, they extracted the second wolf soul and placed it in a nearby palace brimming with spiritual energy. Initially, this consort’s second soul would periodically return to contest control of the body, retreating when weakened to recover. Bound by the seal, I could only resist with my demonic energy. Over time, I was at a disadvantage. To avoid being expelled, I resorted to the Soul Fusion Art,” the black wolf head explained calmly.

“What? The Soul Fusion Art? You’ve already—” The ancient demon’s four eyes widened in horror, momentarily forgetting formalities.

“Indeed. We have merged into a new soul—with her consciousness dominant and mine subordinate. At first, the fusion was unstable, and the ancient cultivators, recognizing my presence within, refused to acknowledge her identity or release her. Given her status, they dared not harm her either, so they abandoned Kunwu Mountain entirely, sealing it away. Thus, our souls oscillated between conflict and fusion for millennia until, after ten thousand years, we stabilized into a perfect union. But recently, to trap a sneaking Divine Transformation cultivator in an illusion, the new soul expended too much spiritual power, allowing us to split again. This will likely be our final separation. Once the second wolf soul awakens in that spiritual-rich palace, we will merge once more,” the black wolf head said, its tone eerily composed.

The ancient demon and the big-headed freak were dumbfounded.

“Sacred Ancestor… after the fusion, is the new soul a demon or one of our Sacred Race?” the ancient demon finally asked after a long pause.

“What do you think?” the black wolf head countered indifferently.

The ancient demon could only fall silent.

“Since you’ve explained this in such detail, you must have a way to prevent it. Speak plainly,” the big-headed freak interjected after a moment’s thought.

“Ah, before that—why would a human like you aid Bloodflame? What do you seek? Given your dwindling vitality, you must be nearing your lifespan’s end. Do you wish for me to infuse you with demonic energy?” the black wolf head’s eyes glinted purple as it sidestepped the question.

“Since you’ve seen through me, I’ll be frank. I’d rather embrace demonhood than face death. What was the point of my centuries of arduous cultivation and countless brushes with death if not to defy mortality? To return to dust?” The big-headed freak’s expression twisted with barely concealed ferocity.
