“Dragon Head, the head of a true dragon, not some mere flood dragon!” Han Li’s heart trembled as he gazed at the colossal figure in the distant sky.
The enormous head in the sky was identical to the depictions of a true dragon’s head he had seen in ancient texts. The entire head shimmered with a golden brilliance, as if forged from pure gold. Its pair of golden horns resembled two small trees, radiating a fearsome, spiritual glow.
“Not a true dragon? Though its aura carries the majesty of one, its spiritual power is only on par with a mid-stage Body Integration demon cultivator. How could a being of the True Spirit level possess such meager power?” Suddenly, Ye Chu exclaimed with a flicker of realization.
“If it’s not a True Spirit-level entity yet can manifest a true dragon’s form, then it must be forcibly activating true dragon blood to conjure this phantom dragon soul,” the white-robed woman murmured, a cold glint flashing in her eyes upon hearing Ye Chu’s words.
“True dragon blood! Then it must be the Long Family behind this!” Ye Chu’s brows furrowed, her expression darkening with killing intent.
“Indeed, it must be so. I found it odd that shortly after I joined this mission, the Long Family also sent their young master along. It seems he was targeting me all along,” the young woman sneered.
“Targeting you? Could it be because of that rumor…?” Ye Chu’s expression shifted dramatically as she recalled something.
“What rumor?” Han Li, having regained his mobility after circulating the Great Development Art to dispel the earlier suppression, asked with a grim expression.
“Heh, Brother Han, now that you know this dragon soul was conjured by that Long Family’s young master, it’s clear he covets the Heavenly Phoenix blood within me. But since he chose to ambush me here, he won’t let any witnesses leave alive. The True Spirit families have long agreed to forbid seizing each other’s bloodlines. Violators face annihilation by all families united. Even if the Long Family’s young master is audacious, he wouldn’t dare act against me within human territory—hence luring me here to strike. But activating True Spirit blood requires more than just a single Deity Transformation cultivator. Most likely, other Void Refinement experts from the Long Family have followed him here,” the white-robed woman said calmly, her gaze fixed on the distant dragon head.
Han Li, recalling how Long Dong had indeed paid unusual attention to the young woman during their journey, found himself largely convinced.
“If it were ordinary True Spirit blood, it wouldn’t matter. But for ancient families like ours and the Long Family, the spiritual blood has been ingrained in our lineages for countless millennia. Logically, it should be impossible to seize. The Long Family must know this,” Ye Chu muttered, her expression grave yet puzzled.
“I’m not sure either. Since the Long Family dared to set this trap, they must have devised some method. But even if they have a trick, they’ll need to defeat my Heavenly Phoenix soul first. Once I activate my blood, I’ll need Sister Chu’s assistance. Brother Han, I leave the protection to you,” the white-robed girl said, her face darkening.
“Since there’s no avoiding this, I’ll do my best,” Han Li replied with a bitter smile, eyeing the approaching dark clouds and the colossal dragon head.
The so-called dragon soul seemed utterly indifferent to their presence, advancing leisurely.
“Good that you understand. I’ll first set up an array, then activate my blood to battle this dragon soul. Let’s see whether the Heavenly Phoenix power of our Ye Family is stronger, or the Long Family’s true dragon blood purer,” the girl said, her expression softening slightly.
With a wave of her hand over her storage bracelet, a thick stack of strangely colored array flags appeared. Dozens of streaks of light shot out, embedding themselves into the ground around them.
In an instant, a layer of purple mist materialized in the air, swirling ominously.
Han Li couldn’t discern the array’s power yet.
The girl then sat cross-legged at the array’s center and spat out five differently colored orbs of light, each the size of a fist, hovering around her. Inside each orb was a miniature treasure—a flute, a zither, a pipa, a blade, and a ring.
The yellow orb contained the Charming Spirit Pipa, a rare imitation spirit treasure whose terrifying power Han Li had witnessed firsthand.
If the other four were of similar caliber, the white-robed girl’s wealth was staggering.
As Han Li pondered, the girl solemnly retrieved a flawless white jade vial. Upon opening it, a melodious phoenix cry rang out, and a miniature, inch-long multicolored phoenix emerged, attempting to flee.
But the girl exhaled a five-colored mist, enveloping the phoenix. In a flash of light, the phoenix reverted into a fragrant five-colored pill, which she swallowed with a pointed gesture, closing her eyes.
Ye Chu appeared beside her, sitting down and forming hand seals. She exhaled a yellow beam of pure wood-attribute spiritual energy, channeling it into the girl’s body.
Simultaneously, the girl’s body emitted a cyan glow, and a several-feet-wide cyan halo appeared above her head, rotating slowly.
The halo was perfectly circular, its edges flickering with white flames. Inside sat a humanoid silhouette resembling the girl, though smaller, also meditating with closed eyes.
The silhouette suddenly opened its eyes, revealing flowing five-colored light—an eerie sight.
By now, the dark clouds were less than a few miles away. The girl’s skin flushed crimson, and a bloody radiance spread across her face, surging into the halo above.
The cyan halo trembled, turning blood-red. The silhouette absorbed the bloody light, its body erupting with five-colored radiance that grew blindingly intense.
The silhouette transformed into a dazzling five-colored sun.
A phoenix cry pierced the heavens as the halo spun and merged into the sun, which then expanded into a ten-foot-long five-colored phoenix. With a clarion call, it spread its wings and soared toward the dark clouds.
Mid-flight, the phoenix grew exponentially, doubling in size with each wingbeat. Soon, it spanned hundreds of feet, its aura rivaling the dragon’s.
The colossal phoenix locked its silver eyes onto the dragon head, hovering opposite it.
The golden dragon head, sensing the threat, ceased its roar. The dark clouds churned, revealing a two-hundred-foot-long golden body—twice the phoenix’s size.
Undeterred, the phoenix flapped its wings. One side unleashed raging gales, while the other summoned countless white sparks that erupted into a sea of white flames.
The sky split—half consumed by howling winds, the other by scorching fire.
The dragon responded, its aura turning violent. Thunder boomed as countless silver lightning serpents, each over thirty feet long, swarmed around it.
As dragon and phoenix clashed, the sky trembled. The dragon spat a golden beam while the lightning serpents surged forward. The phoenix countered with gales and flames.
The battlefield erupted in deafening roars, silver lightning, cyan winds, and white fire intertwining as the two colossal beings grappled, their every strike distorting space.
Han Li watched in awe. If these mere “spirit phantoms” wielded such power, what unimaginable might did true dragons and phoenixes possess?
Perhaps the legends were true—that beings like true dragons and phoenixes could rival even immortals of the True Immortal Realm.
