Chapter 54: The Legacy

Qian Ye walked around the town, picking off the lone direwolves one by one. Those with severed limbs would not survive long.

After completing his task, Qian Ye leaped up and swung Dongyue through the air, cutting down the Wolf King’s battle flag that was planted on the roof of the courtyard. Then, Qian Ye took a wooden board and began to carve on it, preparing to create an emblem of his own to be placed on the rooftop.

On one hand, this was to declare the town as his territory; on the other, it was to inform the Wolf King that he was the one behind all these actions, sparing others from being blamed. Of course, Qian Ye was not foolish enough to directly reveal his identity. The Wolf King’s knowledge of his identity would depend on his own and his subordinates’ capabilities.

However, designing the emblem posed a real challenge for Qian Ye. He first carved a vortex in the sea, symbolizing the Supreme Martial Art. Then, he added a sunrise in the east, representing the original force of dawn.

Having the symbol for the Dawn side, the Evernight side seemed indispensable. With that in mind, Qian Ye added a pair of spread light wings on the sea surface. The Primordial Wings were his strongest trump card, without exception. Since the Primordial Wings were included, the ancient bloodline heritage was also essential, so he added a river of blood in the sky.

Still, it felt incomplete, so Qian Ye added a book in the corner. The origin of the Book of Darkness was mysterious, even the Darkwing King only obtained the first volume. This ancient, enigmatic book had helped Qian Ye multiple times at critical moments. After some thought, he added another book: the Song Clan Ancient Scroll, which was equally crucial and indispensable in Qian Ye’s growth.

Finally, after adding everything he wanted, the emblem became chaotic, complex, and bloated, making it hard for even Qian Ye to look at it.

Qian Ye shattered the wooden board and found a new one, preparing to redesign it. However, no matter which symbol he removed, it felt wrong. As a result, Qian Ye carved and destroyed, destroyed and carved, creating over ten drafts, but still could not settle on a design.

In frustration, Qian Ye simply drew an X on a blank board and stuck it on the rooftop. As for the actual battle flag and emblem, he planned to have Ye Pupu design them when he returned. He was not cut out for such a task.

Leaving the town, Qian Ye abandoned the old truck and rushed back to the small courtyard. He called Elder Cui Yuanhai and Ye Pupu together, briefly explained the current situation, and asked for their opinions.

Cui Yuanhai’s face was etched with worry. “Although we know nothing about the Wolf King’s strength, from the hearsay, he should at least have the power of a divine general. By the Evernight standards, he is likely a Viscount or a Marquis. Such power, to put it bluntly, even you two together might not be a match. As for me, I’m a burden. If you need to take care of me, you two will certainly die.”

This analysis was within Qian Ye’s expectations. He turned to Ye Pupu and asked, “What do you think?”

Ye Pupu, calm as water, showed no trace of worry. “Of course, we fight. We fight until the Wolf King can’t bear it anymore and retreats voluntarily.”

Qian Ye nodded; this was his idea as well.

Cui Yuanhai was shocked. “You want to wage war with the Wolf King? Are you insane?”

Qian Ye smiled. “We are not crazy. It’s not that we want to start a war, but the Wolf King is forcing us into it. This is the Neutral Grounds, and retreating is not an option.”

“But we can go somewhere else. The Neutral Grounds are vast, and the Wolf King controls only a small part of it. We can find a place where his reach doesn’t extend and live in peace. With your talents, in a few years, you might be able to contend with the Wolf King. Why rush now?”

Qian Ye replied, “Even if we leave, the Wolf King can still pursue us. So before we leave, we must deal him a heavy blow, one that makes him too afraid to chase us. That’s when we will truly be safe.”

“What do you plan to do?”

Qian Ye said, “It’s simple. First, we eliminate all the guards he sent out. Then, I’ll hunt down his subordinates in the wild. As long as it’s not the Wolf King, it’s hard for anyone else to escape my sniper shots.”

Cui Yuanhai shook his head. “If you kill too many, the Wolf King will surely take action himself. What will you do then?”

Qian Ye and Ye Pupu looked at each other and said, “We should be able to escape.”

“Should? Hmph, there are many ‘shoulds.’ What if you can’t escape?”

Qian Ye did not say more but instead spread out a map of the Eastern Sea and studied it carefully. After a moment, he pointed at a spot on the map and said, “Elder Cui, we’ll send you to Harbor City first. It’s a neutral area, and you can stay there. Once we have a better handle on the situation with the Wolf King, we’ll come back for you. There’s an airship in town that can take you there.”

Cui Yuanhai, knowing he was a burden in battle, did not object. As a master in weapons and original force bullets, his knowledge in mechanics was also profound, and operating an airship alone was no problem.

“What about Zhu Ji?” the elder asked.

“Zhu Ji will stay with us.”

The three discussed some details, and it was already past midnight. Qian Ye suddenly remembered that he had forgotten about his contest with the mysterious entity. The entity seemed to know Qian Ye was busy tonight and did not remind him to meet at the seaside.

Thinking of the mysterious entity, Qian Ye recalled the especially difficult contests in recent days. Winning a single round was almost impossible, and under consecutive defeats, the Black Forest expanded, completely blocking the path to the town.

Qian Ye could move freely, but others entering the Black Forest would likely face danger. Perhaps because of this, the Wolf King’s guards did not discover Qian Ye’s residence. Even if the townspeople revealed Qian Ye’s whereabouts under duress, the Wolf King’s guards would not want to venture into the Black Forest, so they chose to forget about it.

So, was the mysterious entity helping him secretly?

However, Qian Ye still did not know the true identity of the mysterious entity or its intentions. In the face of the Wolf King, he could not rely on the entity.

Late at night, Cui Yuanhai went to sleep, and little Zhu Ji had not yet awakened from her long slumber. Only Ye Pupu and Qian Ye remained in the room.

“Wait, I have something for you,” Qian Ye called out to Ye Pupu.

“What is it? A gift?” Ye Pupu was curious.

“Consider it a gift!”

Qian Ye took out the Bloodsucker Blade and made a deep cut on his wrist, drawing out a few drops of blood. Within the blood, golden particles flickered like burning embers. These blood drops converged into a crystal-like blood bead, resting on Qian Ye’s fingertip.

Qian Ye lifted his hand and touched Ye Pupu’s forehead with the blood bead.

Ye Pupu didn’t know what Qian Ye intended, but she could feel a sense of ancient desolation from the blood bead, causing her bloodline to tremble.

Qian Ye pressed the blood bead to Ye Pupu’s brow, and it vanished without a trace, as if it had never been there. As the blood bead disappeared, Qian Ye’s face paled, and his aura weakened.

Ye Pupu’s face turned pale, and she closed her eyes, her body trembling uncontrollably.

After a long while, her trembling subsided, and she opened her eyes, incredulous. “Void Blink?!”

“Yes. This is the supreme secret technique of the Darkwing King, Anduia. You come from the Monro clan and have awakened the Darkwing King’s bloodline, so you should be able to use Void Blink.”

Ye Pupu was still in shock, repeatedly touching her forehead. But there was no sign of the blood bead, and her skin was undamaged, so no matter how she touched, she couldn’t find any trace.

“What’s going on?” After a while, Ye Pupu gave up and asked directly.

“This is an ancient bloodline inheritance method. At the cost of a bit of essence blood, it allows the other person to fully receive the inherited experience.”

“How do you know this?” In Ye Pupu’s hazy memories, it seemed that the Monro clan did not have such an inheritance method.

“I learned it from the River of Blood,” Qian Ye didn’t hide it.

“You communicated with the River of Blood?!” Although much was forgotten, she knew that communicating with the River of Blood was a significant event for the entire bloodline.

“Yes, is there a problem?”

“I don’t know, it seems… nothing. I can’t remember.” Ye Pupu tried to recall, but she couldn’t remember why communicating with the River of Blood was so important.

The ancient inheritance method, at the cost of essence blood, transferred Qian Ye’s understanding and mastery of Void Blink to Ye Pupu, saving her the trouble of learning it on her own. Void Blink was a powerful spatial traversal technique, and theoretically, as long as one’s dark original force was strong enough, they could use it. However, the Darkwing King’s bloodline was particularly compatible with Void Blink, making its effects far stronger than ordinary bloodlines.

Other bloodlines, or even other dark races, could potentially use Void Blink if they received the inheritance, but the effects would be limited. From Qian Ye’s observations, if Eden used Void Blink, it would be far less effective than Shadow Traversal and could likely result in fatal backlash.

For other dark races, the true value of Void Blink lay in its unlimited potential. With greater dark original force, the technique’s power increased accordingly. Perhaps in the hands of a great lord, this secret technique would truly shine. Shadow Traversal, on the other hand, reached its limit at the Marquis level, with no additional effect beyond that.

Ye Pupu, with the Darkwing King’s bloodline and Qian Ye’s inheritance, mastered Void Blink quickly, practicing it in just one night. Though she had just recovered and was still a step away from breaking through to Earl, her use of Void Blink was slightly inferior to Qian Ye’s.

Nevertheless, both having Void Blink significantly increased their chances of survival, even against the Wolf King. The core inheritance of the Darkwing King was indeed immensely powerful.

Qian Ye then took out the Shadow Ode and handed it to Ye Pupu.

Upon seeing the Shadow Ode, Ye Pupu’s expression turned odd. “This is Eden’s gun. How did you get it?”

“Do you still remember Eden?” Qian Ye snorted.

Ye Pupu immediately acted coy. “He seems to have saved me, so I remember it well. I remember a lot of things about us, too!”

Qian Ye snorted again, not pursuing the matter. “I’m giving this gun to you. It might not be very comfortable, but it has decent power.”

“How did you get this gun?”

“Hmph, I encountered Eden on the battlefield, beat him up, and took the gun. Unfortunately, he still managed to escape.”

Ye Pupu gave a noncommittal “Oh,” ignoring Qian Ye’s stare.

After a brief standoff, Ye Pupu suddenly smiled, ruffling Qian Ye’s hair, and asked, “Honestly, what were you thinking just now?”

“When I met Eden, I should have beaten him harder!” Qian Ye gritted his teeth.

“You’re such a fool.”
