Chapter 28: Ambush

This was the mark of a Divine General, and only a Divine General or an Honored Marquis could cause such a large-scale disturbance in the origin power. A blackish-green whirlwind of origin power rose into the sky, and from the storm, a figure emerged, streaking towards Qian Ye like lightning!

Everything within the city, whether it be origin power, buildings, living or non-living, was filled with hostility towards Qian Ye. In an instant, Qian Ye felt as if the entire world was against him!

The figure flying towards him was a towering, robust man with long, flowing hair. His eyes glowed like lightning, and a chill of death emanated from his gaze. Fixing his eyes on Qian Ye, his gaze was as solid as two iron chains, pinning Qian Ye in mid-air.

This was the might of a Divine General, where every move was bolstered by the force of heaven and earth, and even without physical action, a mere glance could subdue ordinary warriors.

Time seemed to slow down, yet it was swift. As the man approached, Qian Ye asked, “Wolf King?”

“Exactly! Surrender, and maybe I’ll spare your life!”

While speaking, the Wolf King had already reached Qian Ye, extending his hand to grab Qian Ye’s head.

This attack was sure to succeed in the Wolf King’s mind; no matter how much Qian Ye struggled, he would not escape. The gap between them was too great, leaving no room for resistance.

Even if Qian Ye managed to break free, the entire Nanqing City was now the Wolf King’s domain. Within his domain, the Wolf King could appear and disappear like lightning, locking onto enemies with a mere glance. Where could Qian Ye possibly escape to?

However, Qian Ye let out a long, mocking laugh, and with a sudden shake, he shattered the bonds!

With a single burst of power, a faint red line appeared in the air, leading to the distance. Qian Ye’s figure blurred, and he vanished without a trace.

A thunderous roar echoed in the air, and the Wolf King’s fingers closed, releasing sparks and lightning. This grasp was so powerful that it could melt even the most unbreakable alloy. But Qian Ye was nowhere to be found, and the Wolf King’s grasp hit nothing but air.

Enraged, the Wolf King’s eyes shot out a meter-long ray of origin power, scanning the skies and the ground. As long as Qian Ye was within his domain, there was no chance of escape.

But the Wolf King’s gaze swept across every corner of Nanqing City, yet he could not find Qian Ye. Qian Ye had seemingly disappeared into thin air, leaving no trace for the Wolf King to follow.

The Wolf King’s rage grew, and his body ignited with a deep bluish flame, like a god of death descending upon the earth. He flew high into the sky, surveying the surroundings, his eyes flickering, and at times, even spitting out flames several meters away.

Yet, no matter how hard he tried, he could not find Qian Ye.

Furious, the Wolf King slowly raised his right hand, surrounded by crackling lightning. A massive vortex of origin power gathered above him, forming a terrifying storm. If this attack were unleashed, it could destroy half of Nanqing City.

From the City Lord’s mansion above, Ji Rui surged into the sky, exclaiming, “Wolf King! Are you trying to destroy my foundation?”

The Wolf King’s eyes gradually dimmed, and he snorted, “How could that be? Our cooperation has just begun. But do you have any idea where Qian Ye is hiding?”

Ji Rui sighed, “Now that the entire Nanqing City is within your domain, who could hide someone? Qian Ye either has a secret method to conceal his presence, or he has already fled the city.”

The Wolf King’s face darkened, and he said, “Under my watch, how could he have left Nanqing City?”

Ji Rui hastily replied, “How should I know? I’m just guessing.”

The Wolf King snorted, sweeping his senses across the city once more, still to no avail. Reluctantly, he withdrew his domain. Maintaining such a large domain was a heavy burden even for the Wolf King.

His eyes narrowed, surveying the area, and finally, he looked towards the vast wilderness beyond the city, uncertain.

In that moment, Qian Ye seemed to vanish from the world, leaving no trace. Even with the Wolf King’s experience, he could not fathom how Qian Ye escaped. The only method that could achieve such an effect was to tear through the void and leave directly.

Earlier, the Wolf King had indeed sensed a disturbance in space. But he quickly dismissed the idea. Only a Great Monarch or a supreme figure on the brink of that level could traverse the void. The Wolf King himself was not capable of it, let alone Qian Ye.

Unable to solve the mystery, the Wolf King reluctantly gave up and, with great reluctance, returned to the City Lord’s mansion with Ji Rui. Ji Rui then ordered the city guards to seal the four gates and search the entire city. But everyone knew it was just for show. Inside the City Lord’s mansion, the Wolf King and Ji Rui sat facing each other. The Wolf King spoke slowly, “Letting Qian Ye escape is a great threat.”

“Indeed,” Ji Rui sighed.

The Wolf King smiled, “It’s a great threat to you, City Lord. Next time I encounter him, he won’t be so lucky. But, Ji City Lord, if he can escape from me once, he can escape from you a hundred times. You need to strengthen your defenses.”

Ji Rui’s face was bitter, and he sighed, unable to say anything.

With Qian Ye’s unpredictable nature, what kind of defense could stop him? Even the Wolf King could not catch him, so what use would patrolling the night do? Ji Rui had some secret methods, but they were hardly comparable to the Wolf King’s usual techniques.

Both men were silent, and the Wolf King’s mood was sour. He still could not understand how Qian Ye had escaped. Perhaps Zhang Bushou would know, but he was the last person the Wolf King wanted to see.

Finally, the Wolf King broke the silence, “Don’t worry. Once I finish here, I will personally hunt down Qian Ye. Unless he never shows up again, he will die by my hand.”

“He probably won’t stay in the Eastern Sea,” Ji Rui said with a bitter smile.

The Eastern Sea was Zhang Bushou’s territory, and even Spiders’ Emperor and Moonlight White Devil would be affected. If Qian Ye was smart, he wouldn’t linger in such a dangerous place. He would flee to another neutral zone, like the Blood Throne, where even the Wolf King would not dare to cause trouble.

The Wolf King snorted coldly, “Let’s hope he is smart enough not to appear before me again.”

With that, the Wolf King left, heading to rest. Ji Rui was left alone, deep in thought.

Money was always obtainable, but an enemy like Qian Ye, once made, would bring endless sleepless nights.

Ji Rui paced in his study, his face growing grim, and sighed. Having offended Qian Ye, he might as well go all the way. If Qian Ye grew stronger, no one could stop him.

Just then, there was a knock on the door. In a bad mood, Ji Rui grumbled, “What’s so important that it has to be said now?”

Guang Zhongliu’s voice came from outside, “City Lord, the brothers have almost turned the city upside down, but we haven’t found any trace of him. Everyone is exhausted, so…”

“… Dismiss them,” Ji Rui said, not expecting the city guards to find Qian Ye. Hearing the bad news, he felt a sense of loss.

Entering Nanqing City, Qian Ye navigated the streets, his figure appearing and disappearing, finally reaching the City Lord’s mansion. He looked up, his pupils glowing blue.

Above the mansion, a massive vortex of origin power still swirled, but less violently than before, indicating the Wolf King was not in a state of battle.

Qian Ye approached the wall of the mansion, grabbed it, and climbed up using only his physical strength, not moving a speck of origin power. To the senses, he would appear as an ordinary, untrained person.
