Chapter 125: Yama, the King of Hell

Light!

Blinding radiance, in an instant, obscured everything.

The indigo glow converged, even transcending space and time, causing a devastating annihilation that twisted everything!

After the surging power finally subsided, only Wu Ming, a single deity, remained at the original spot.

“Come to think of it… Lord Heishan was also a pitiable figure. Of course, the City God of Heitai was even more pitiable!”

Due to his unity with Lord Heishan, the City God of Heitai could not gain recognition from heaven, earth, and humanity, nor receive the power of the masses, and thus faded into oblivion.

Compared to the City God of Heitai, although Wu Ming was an outsider, he was absolutely not on the same path as Lord Heishan. He bore no original sin and thus became a more suitable candidate for the role of “savior.”

Every action and consequence is destined by heaven!

Wu Ming arrived at the center, where he saw that it had transformed into an unfathomably deep pit. Everything seemed to have vanished, leaving only the neatly edged crater.

Above the crater, however, there remained half of a cyan divine edict, glowing faintly with light, its center tinged with purple, and beneath it a black shadow, barely clinging to existence.

The moment Wu Ming saw the divine edict, an intense yearning welled up from the depths of his heart.

“This is the attraction of authority. If I truly unite with the divine edict, I shall attain the position of the God of Mount Tai!”

Though fully aware of this, Wu Ming still resisted the urge to act immediately and instead turned his gaze to the black shadow: “Lord Heishan? Indeed, your fortune is strong. As one of the primal essences, have you managed to survive?”

At this point, though, it was like a candle flickering in the wind, having lost all its power.

With a mere gesture, Wu Ming seized it from beneath the protection of the divine edict.

“Hisss… Kill me! Kill me!”

The shadow hissed, squeezing out the words through clenched teeth.

Wu Ming, however, remained silent.

There was some truth to what Lord Heishan said. This spirit world was partially transformed from Mount Tai, and he was one of its “creators,” possessing a thread of life.

To kill him recklessly would incur a heavy karmic burden.

Regardless of anything else, Lord Heishan’s current plight might not be unrelated to the backlash from oppressing the City God of Heitai.

“Your fate is not to perish, but to be reborn through reincarnation!”

Wu Ming declared, invoking the power of the “Precious Sutra of the Earth God.” By now, this scripture had been fully recognized by the entire world, carrying an irresistible force. Strands of white light descended, cleansing the dark qi clinging to Lord Heishan.

“No! I must take revenge! I must retaliate!”

Lord Heishan roared furiously, struggling desperately. Unfortunately, as the white light continued to cleanse him, the dark aura around him became increasingly faint. His expression gradually turned blank.

“Without the divine edict, you have lost your primal authority. This time, losing all your memories and resentment will make you no different from an ordinary soul. Even if you are reborn, you won’t be able to stir up much trouble…”

Wu Ming activated the power of reincarnation, and a massive karmic vortex appeared.

In an instant, he sent Lord Heishan—now dressed in white and with a blank expression—into the vortex.

“I will not defy the Dao of Heaven by killing you outright. However, within the cycle of rebirth, it is the will of Heaven that determines your fate. What happens to you henceforth has nothing more to do with me…”

Boom!

At the moment the karmic cycle sealed shut, in the mortal world, the black smoke representing the sacrificial rites of the God of Mount Tai finally collapsed entirely, revealing a clear sky.

Under the warm sunlight, the fortunate survivors on the ground wept with joy and celebrated exuberantly.

At the same time, the heavens and earth trembled.

A massive surge of thick cyan energy, tinged with purple, descended directly onto Wu Ming.

The remaining half of the divine edict also flew into his hand of its own accord.

“The position of the God of Mount Tai, the Lord of Mount Tai?”

Wu Ming shook his head slightly but still slapped the cyan half-edict against his body.

Buzz!

The half of the cyan divine edict immediately merged into his body upon contact.

His original golden-cyan decree exploded once again, absorbing the half-cyan talisman. Billions of runes recombined, forming a completely new divine edict.

This divine edict radiated cyan light, with a faint trace of purple at its center, exuding immense majesty.

Around Wu Ming, the golden-cyan flames transformed entirely, becoming a pure cyan, lush and profound, carrying an ancient and mysterious aura.

“The God of Mount Tai? The authentic Cyan Divine?”

Suddenly, Wu Ming felt an immense authority—not only over the underworld but also over the 300-mile expanse of Black Mountain in the mortal world and the dragon fortune of the Guzhu Kingdom.

“By this reckoning, the realms of heaven, earth, and humanity all fall under my jurisdiction. Isn’t that like a miniature version of the Jade Emperor?”

Wu Ming couldn’t help but feel a mix of amusement and regret.

This was indeed the throne of the Jade Emperor, a position that many cultivators could only dream of touching in their entire lives. Unfortunately, it was merely the ruler of a small heavenly realm. Once the spirit world perished, he too would perish, so it was not eternal.

Moreover, the divine path came with many restrictions, which were not what he truly sought.

“But there are still some things… that I should take this opportunity to do! Fortunately, the divine authority of the God of Mount Tai includes complete jurisdiction over the underworld!”

Wu Ming extended his hand, and the omnipresent white light and redemptive power throughout the world began to condense, flowing into his palm.

The intensely concentrated redemptive power transformed from the ethereal into the tangible, solidifying into a scripture. The cover bore the five large characters “The Precious Sutra of the Earth God.”

“This could be considered an innate treasure, though it is formed from the collective willpower of sentient beings and cannot leave this world…”

Wu Ming sighed, then swept his right hand across the cover of the scripture. Instantly, the five characters twisted and transformed, becoming the new title “The Divine Canon of the God of Mount Tai.”

“The laws of the underworld were incomplete in this world due to the previous fragmentation of authority… but now, it is time to take from the people and use for the people…”

Wu Ming picked up “The Divine Canon of the God of Mount Tai” and cast it into the underworld.

Instantly, white light flashed, the scripture sank into the earth, merging the boundless redemptive power with the karmic cycle in the void.

A vast karmic vortex opened, guiding the wandering souls.

One by one white specks poured in, gradually expanding the power of reincarnation until it reached a limit.

“That’s enough!”

With a single gesture from Wu Ming, the power of reincarnation solidified, forming a massive karmic pool.

Meanwhile, the earth trembled, and a grander city emerged on the plain. Above its gates, the word “Fengdu” stood out brilliantly.

Ten palaces formed a linked complex, becoming the core of Fengdu City.

“From this day forth, all wandering souls arriving in the underworld shall first come to Fengdu Ghost City, where they will be judged by the Ten Halls of Yama. Those with merit shall enter the cycle of good rebirths, while those with sins shall enter purgatory for purification. Only after their sins are atoned may they re-enter the cycle…”

A mighty voice echoed throughout the underworld.

Then, threads of pure light rained down, and a moon rose over the underworld, bringing with it a sense of peace and tranquility.

Above the underworld, streams of black qi were drawn into the cycle, purified by the clear light, and became calm.

The malevolent earth qi dissipated, and the souls above no longer had to endure suffering. They gazed gratefully and bowed in thanks: “Thank you, Your Majesty, for your great grace!”

Boom!

The heavens and earth trembled once more, and another massive surge of merit descended.

“Establishing the three realms and instituting the rules of the underworld indeed brings merit…”

Wu Ming smiled faintly, and dozens of golden-red lights scattered across the sky, seeking their respective recipients:

“By divine decree! Appoint Qing Mangzi as the First Hall of Yama!”

“By divine decree! Those with merit shall be appointed as divine officials of the underworld, promoted according to their deeds!”

In an instant, dozens of divine edicts found their recipients, and within Fengdu Ghost City, the Hall of the First Yama lit up with light. Countless ghost soldiers and judges busied themselves, beginning to establish the new order of the underworld.

“The foundation is laid. What remains is merely natural evolution.”

Wu Ming watched this unfold, nodding slightly, when suddenly his brows furrowed.

With a mere thought, he had already arrived in the mortal world, within Black Mountain.

Before him lay an open space, upon which lay a corpse—Li Suihan, dead with eyes wide open in resentment.

Beside him, two reincarnators—Xu Ziquan and Xue Linglong—were attacking Gong Yunshang.

Upon seeing Wu Ming, Gong Yunshang’s face lit up with relief: “Xu Ziquan has defected to the Blood Oath Alliance and murdered Li Suihan!”

There was no need for further explanation. Wu Ming’s right hand descended slightly, and terrifying power suppressed the entire battlefield.

“Never would I have imagined… the ultimate secret of this spirit world was the throne of heaven and earth!”

Upon seeing Wu Ming, Xue Linglong let out a bitter laugh, her crimson fox tail behind her twitching restlessly.

“Oh? Is this your trump card?”

In an instant, the invisible spiritual energy of Black Mountain suppressed her small movement. A talisman flew from her fluffy tail toward Wu Ming, igniting spontaneously in midair and revealing a phantom figure, roaring in fury.

“Hmm… a talisman storing a single strike of power? Judging from the energy fluctuations, it seems to be from a fourth or fifth-tier expert, and you must have paid a heavy price for it, haven’t you?”

“You must have been lying in wait all along, intending to seize the final reward?”

With a light flick of his finger, Wu Ming caused the phantom figure to freeze, before it suddenly disintegrated into nothingness.

Seeing this, despair finally crept into Xue Linglong’s eyes.

When power surpasses a certain threshold, all schemes and intrigues become nothing more than jokes.

“And you…”

Wu Ming turned his gaze to Xue Linglong and flicked his finger again.

This woman had survived until now—either possessing some protective charm or being a privileged entity. Unfortunately, before him, what use were they?

“Ahh…”

Xue Linglong roared furiously, and nine crimson tails emerged from behind her back, each bearing twisted human faces that burst forth, transforming into thousands of vengeful spirits.

“I now command the authority of the underworld, and you dare attack me with spirits?”

Wu Ming scoffed, his mind stirring. The underworld opened wide, swallowing the thousands of spirits in one gulp, dragging them to Fengdu Ghost City for judgment.

His ivory-like finger finally crossed the boundaries of time and space, tapping Xue Linglong’s forehead.

The woman hesitated for a moment, then collapsed, dissolving into countless motes of light.

“So she wasn’t a privileged entity after all!”

Wu Ming withdrew his hand, a trace of melancholy flickering in his eyes.

For him now, even wielding the authority of Black Mountain was enough to annihilate any resistance. A sense of solitude naturally arose.

“Mercy, my Lord! Mercy!”

Seeing this, Xu Ziquan completely broke down, kneeling and begging for mercy.

Wu Ming couldn’t be bothered to watch his pitiful sight, and flicked his finger once more.

Boom!
