Chapter 106: An Siyao’s Performance

The two of them started looking at other children again.

Normally, adoption is a lengthy process. Prospective adoptive parents would interact with the child at least three times to determine whether the child’s personality suits their preferences. Sometimes they would even take the child out to play several times to get to know them better.

However, this particular orphanage was an exception. The two caretakers annotated the personalities and traits of all the children, significantly reducing the trouble for adoptive parents. As a result, many adoptions were decided after just one meeting.

The couple came from a distant town and didn’t want to spend too much time determining a child’s personality, so they chose this orphanage.

A staff member stood behind them, informing them of the caretakers’ notes about whichever child they were interested in, though they wouldn’t show them the notes directly.

They looked at several children, all of whom were quite good, but they had already set their hearts on Tina. Because of this, even children who would have been satisfactory now seemed lacking.

The couple whispered in a corner and decided to pick one of the three decent candidates at random.

It was a pity, though. Tina was genuinely beautiful.

Both of them were members of the “Looks Club” and couldn’t help but ask the staff about Tina earlier. The girl also had an excellent temperament.

They couldn’t help but glance at Tina again, which left them stunned.

Why was that child walking toward them?

This was naturally Xia Yu’s doing.

Grabbing Tina’s skirt, Xia Yu dragged her away from the competition of three families.

The three families appeared to be wealthy, but one of them gave the cat a bad vibe. The other two families already had children.

Having children meant uncertainty. Even if the parents liked Tina, who knew if their children would like her? In case of conflicts, who would end up at a disadvantage?

Xia Yu had no intention of staying in this white cat’s body for long. Once he upgraded the remaining telepathy ability to level 1, he wouldn’t visit here often anymore, leaving Tina unprotected.

He had eavesdropped on the couple from the town earlier. They had no children. The wife was a police officer, and the husband was a doctor with a stable job.

Especially the husband, who was a department head at the town hospital. In small towns where connections mattered, it would be easy for him to pull some strings and get a position at the hospital.

Life in a small town was also more comfortable than in a big city.

Xia Yu especially noticed that the couple was also interested in Tina, often stealing glances at her.

Pulling Tina in front of the couple, Xia Yu meowed, breaking the silence.

“Hello,” Tina said timidly as she picked up Xia Yu and greeted the couple.

While the husband hesitated, the wife had already crouched down and smiled at Tina. “Hi, you’re Tina, right?”

“Yeah,” Tina nodded. She was just cautious in her actions, not as dull as An Siyao. She could tell that Xia Yu wanted her to choose these two people.

After hesitating for a moment, she took the initiative to start a conversation.

“Do you want to pet the cat?” She extended Xia Yu toward the wife.

“???”

Seeing Tina take the initiative to interact, Xia Yu felt somewhat gratified, but now the girl was using him to build rapport with others?

Was he really that kind of casual cat?

Compared to Xia Yu, the couple was much more delighted. The reason they hadn’t chosen Tina was that they felt she wouldn’t like them. But now it seemed like there was a good chance?

The couple happily conversed with Tina. Compared to the three families who had talked about gardens, dance studios, and yachts in amusement parks, what the couple described—swings in the backyard, a small river by the gate, and woods at the edge of the town—was more appealing to Tina.

At noon, the three of them went together to the old administrator’s study, which was also the director’s office, to fill out the application.

The old administrator was surprised, not expecting Tina to end up with this family. The staff member who had accompanied them explained, and she learned it was Xia Yu’s doing.

Stamping the documents, the old administrator glanced at Xia Yu. “This cat came with Tina when she arrived. If you have trouble keeping it, you can leave it with me.”

“Meow meow meow?”

Xia Yu looked at the old administrator in disbelief: Are you actually trying to take the cat that saved your life?

Fortunately, the couple didn’t agree. “It’s fine. Having a cat at home can be quite lively.”

The old administrator sighed. She had been in the front yard that morning and clearly saw Xia Yu knock over a flowerpot and frame two troublemakers. Considering previous incidents, she had already regarded Xia Yu as a spiritual cat.

Forget it. A spiritual cat without a master might have negative effects if kept.

She held and petted Xia Yu until the couple completed all the procedures and were ready to take Tina away, at which point she reluctantly let go of Xia Yu.

Xia Yu quickly jumped onto the bus and hid.

The bus stopped in front of a hotel not far away, and the three people and one cat got into their car and returned to the town.

After they got off the bus, Xia Yu’s playtime was over, and he returned to his own body.

Unless something unexpected happened, he still needed to visit the white cat a few more times to check on Tina’s situation.

He hadn’t yet obtained the white cat’s telepathy ability. To level up telepathy, he needed to connect with different people, and the number required was quite large.

Xia Yu had already connected with about two hundred people. This was only possible after sneaking out a few times.

To reach level 1, he needed around a thousand people. This was easy in District 1, a densely populated area where eight hours would be enough to complete it. But he was in District 2.

That ghost place, even in a relatively large supermarket, couldn’t gather more than twenty people.

I hope Tina’s new home isn’t too far from school. Even in District 2, the population at school should still be sufficient, right?

Actually, Xia Yu could also go to the commercial areas of big cities to get many people, but the distance was quite far. He couldn’t even use a phone to call a taxi in District 2.

Putting aside the matter of the white cat, Xia Yu looked toward his right front. An Siyao and her teacher were sitting there.

This teacher was An Siyao’s piano teacher. Since An Siyao had already reached a level of proficiency, Xia Yu hadn’t met her while he was in An Siyao’s body.

Not knowing if she sensed Xia Yu’s gaze, the girl turned her head and glanced toward the back.

Xia Yu calmly shifted his gaze elsewhere.

An Siyao’s eyes lingered on Xia Yu for a while.

Previously, among all the competitors, the one who made her most uneasy was Xia Yu. He had just achieved the dual mastery, and his bee performance had even matched the world record, which was too eye-catching.

She knew that the “he” who always entered her body wasn’t someone who truly loved music, so despite her higher skill level, she still felt anxious, wondering whether “he” would care about anyone.

Later, she had asked about this indirectly and received the response that “he” didn’t care about Xia Yu, which relieved her. But now, Xia Yu had shown his guzheng skills.

He had just achieved the guzheng triple mastery. His violin matched the world record, and his piano skills were somewhat lacking, but he was at the level of an inheritor of a school. This was naturally sensational news material, easily drawing attention.

An Siyao fell into doubt again. “He” wasn’t interested in the violin, but what about the guzheng?

Thinking that “his” attention might shift to Xia Yu, although Xia Yu was male, An Siyao still felt displeased.

At least in this competition, “his” gaze should be mine!

She boldly gave Xia Yu a small glare and quickly looked away.

“Yaoyao? It’s your turn.” The teacher beside her reminded An Siyao, “Still not feeling well?”

“No, I’m almost fine now.” An Siyao stood up and quickly walked backstage.

After the current performer on stage finished, she entered the stage.

Sitting in front of the piano, thinking about what “he” had said—that he would watch the TV broadcast—An Siyao smiled at the camera and pressed the keys.

The piece she played was called “Fine Snow.”
