Chapter 297: Yan Wei: Confession

Xia Yu felt that if he just gave the musical score to An Siyao or played it for her in private, it would lack a certain feeling.

Although An Siyao might not necessarily mind, he certainly would.

The most important thing in life is to be satisfied with oneself.

Putting this matter aside temporarily, Xia Yu continued refining the final composition.

At eleven o’clock at night, after finishing the piece, he yawned and nodded in satisfaction.

He returned to his bedroom, lay on the bed, and opened the game interface.

He had five slots, occupied by An Siyao, Xu Youxiang, Tina, Brown Bear, and Wen Ziying.

Besides that, he had an unclaimed reward, from which he could obtain an additional blank slot.

That could wait for now, as there was no need to save any other body at the moment.

Clicking on Xu Youxiang’s slot, Xia Yu went to her place and continued the teaching session.

Recently, Xu Youxiang was in a good mood, whether due to her improved skills or because Xia Yu had visited her previously.

The next evening, Xia Yu dressed in a suit, while Youxue wore an evening gown, and together they arrived at the Yan family villa.

Standing at the courtyard entrance to greet them were regular servants, and at the main entrance of the foyer, the middle-aged butler welcomed them.

He warmly shook Xia Yu’s hand: “Thank you for coming.”

“Wishing Mrs. Yan a long and prosperous life.”

Xia Yu’s expression was equally warm, as if they were old friends who hadn’t seen each other in years, though in reality, they didn’t even know each other’s names.

Xia Yu handed the gift he had prepared to the butler—it was a jade Buddha, an ordinary gift.

One-third of his reason for coming was out of curiosity about Yan Baiyu’s appearance, another third was to see if he could taste a unique version of the baiyu dumplings, and the final third was to show respect for Yan Wei.

Upon entering, the spacious hall was filled with an array of exquisite and adorable delicacies.

Xia Yu quickly found the baiyu dumplings among the snacks.

He picked up two dumplings, gave one to Youxue, and tasted the other.

Xia Yu nodded, finding this baiyu dumpling more delicious than the one he had eaten at An Siyao’s house.

An’s pastry chef was already at a master level. This baiyu dumpling couldn’t possibly have been made by Yan Baiyu herself. Therefore, the chef who made this dumpling could at most be on par with An’s pastry chef.

At the same level, yet there was a noticeable difference in the famous baiyu dumpling—this was thought-provoking.

Indeed, the Yan family had kept some secrets regarding the technique of making baiyu dumplings.

The main mystery should lie in the filling.

Xia Yu couldn’t help but feel a bit curious, wondering if he could somehow steal the technique.

This idea lingered in his mind for a moment before disappearing. Firstly, it would be immoral to do so, and secondly, he wasn’t even a pastry chef. Even if he were allowed to observe openly, he wouldn’t understand anything.

After eating the baiyu dumplings, he tasted some other pastries.

Youxue ate a few and was already satisfied. She looked around and took out her phone to check messages.

Five minutes later, Yan Li appeared before the two of them.

The two girls held each other’s hands, delighted at their reunion.

“Where are your parents?” Xia Yu thought of going to greet them.

“They are upstairs in their room and haven’t come down,” Yan Li picked up a pastry and said, “They wouldn’t come to an event like this. If it weren’t for my sister, I wouldn’t be here either!”

Xia Yu thought that if he were Yan Wei’s parents, he wouldn’t come to this place either.

When there’s a difference in social class, interaction can be awkward, especially since Yan Wei’s parents were close relatives of Yan Baiyu.

“Where is Weiwei?” Youxue asked again.

“She should be with the second grandfather and second grandmother. We don’t need to worry about her. Come, I’ll show you around,” Yan Li pulled Youxue away.

Xia Yu picked up a glass of juice and leaned against the wall drinking it.

Ten minutes later, the birthday celebrant finally made her entrance.

It was an elderly lady with white hair but full of energy. Beside her was an old man with partially gray hair and a beard—this was Yan Baiyu.

Mrs. Yan’s expression was kind, while Yan Baiyu’s was stern.

Behind the two were Yan Wei and another man in his twenties.

The man was Yan Baiyu’s grandson.

Entering the hall, Yan Wei scanned the surroundings, seemingly looking for something.

After a round of searching without finding it, her expression became slightly anxious, and she began scanning the room again.

Knowing that she was looking for him, Xia Yu stood in a more visible spot.

Seeing him, Yan Wei smiled.

Xia Yu smiled in response.

Their actions were noticed by Yan Baiyu beside them. Yan Baiyu slightly frowned and asked, “What’s your relationship?”

“Ordinary friends.” Thinking about their relationship, Yan Wei felt somewhat sad.

“A good chef only needs a pot; nothing else is necessary,” Yan Baiyu lectured Yan Wei.

But the next moment, he was reprimanded by Mrs. Yan.

“Then are you going to sleep with a pot tonight?” Mrs. Yan looked at Yan Baiyu.

Yan Baiyu coughed, “I was just exaggerating to prevent Wei from getting distracted.”

“But I remember when you were Wei’s age, you were already juggling three relationships,” Mrs. Yan teased Yan Baiyu.

“At that time, I was young and reckless. I took the wrong path, so I must prevent Wei from making the same mistake, right?” Yan Baiyu defended himself.

Seeing that Mrs. Yan didn’t speak anymore, Yan Baiyu turned to Yan Wei again: “Focus more on your cooking tools and don’t get distracted by irrelevant things!”

Mrs. Yan gave Yan Baiyu a disapproving look. She pulled Yan Wei over: “Don’t listen to your grandfather. He had his fun when he was young. Now he can’t do those things anymore, so he turns around and tells you not to play around. Isn’t that just allowing him to set fires but not letting you light lamps?”

“Hey, you have to clarify who can’t do those things anymore!” Yan Baiyu became anxious. “You just wait tonight!”

Ignoring Yan Baiyu’s powerless outburst, Mrs. Yan inquired about Xia Yu’s situation.

Upon hearing that Xia Yu was the top scorer from Su Province and a well-known violinist and guzheng musician, Mrs. Yan repeatedly praised him.

She then took Yan Wei’s phone and examined Xia Yu’s photos, becoming even more satisfied.

“There is one issue,” Yan Wei said with a bitter expression, honestly stating, “He already has a girlfriend.”

She had expected the second grandfather and second grandmother to scold her, but she didn’t anticipate that the two elderly people only showed slight surprise.

After exchanging glances with Yan Baiyu, Mrs. Yan’s expression turned somewhat serious: “Have you decided that you definitely want him?”

Yan Wei blinked her eyes and nodded.

Mrs. Yan smiled: “Back then, your grandfather was juggling three relationships, but none of them were with me. I crashed into the scene and overturned all three of those boats.”

Hearing that her grandmother had such rich experience as an outsider, Yan Wei hurriedly sought advice.

Mrs. Yan shared everything she knew.

Upon hearing that Xia Yu had always liked baiyu dumplings, she decisively decided that after the banquet, Yan Baiyu would cook privately to entertain Xia Yu.

Yan Wei thought her grandmother was supporting her, but in reality, Mrs. Yan was planning to get close to Xia Yu to learn more about his background.

Mrs. Yan, who had once been an outsider, successfully overturned the other three boats and made Yan Baiyu exclusively hers, was certainly no simple character.
