Chapter 300: Yan Wei: Lost

Xia Yu thought that Yan Baiyu and Madam Yan might have mistaken Yan Wei to be his girlfriend. He continued:

“It’s a pity I didn’t bring her along this time.”

Upon hearing his words, the two elders remained indifferent, which surprised Xia Yu greatly.

He pondered, could it be that I’m overthinking? Perhaps Yan Baiyu and Madam Yan were just being hospitable without any ulterior motives, and they genuinely didn’t care whether I had a girlfriend or not?

Unable to reach a conclusion, Xia Yu gave up on thinking.

After talking for another ten minutes, Xia Yu and Youxue stood up to take their leave.

At the gate, seeing the two off in the car, Yan Wei returned home. She entered the living room, where Yan Baiyu and Madam Yan were discussing something.

Seeing Yan Wei, Madam Yan shared her conclusion: “He’s most likely still a virgin.”

“Can you even tell that?” Yan Wei asked in astonishment.

“Your grandmother has experience,” Yan Baiyu told Yan Wei to listen carefully without questioning.

“His appearance is decently handsome, but his aura is extraordinary. He’s from the Flower School of guzheng,” Madam Yan praised, “His personality is easygoing, humorous, and not stiff. His values seem okay, although he’s somewhat laid-back.”

Listening to her grandmother’s praise of Xia Yu, Yan Wei couldn’t help but smile.

“There is one big issue,” Madam Yan’s expression turned serious.

“What issue?” Yan Wei asked nervously.

“You seem somewhat unworthy of him,” Madam Yan recalled their conversation with Xia Yu earlier. If she had met him in her youth, she would have fallen deeply for him.

If only his kidney function were better, he’d be the perfect boy straight out of a comic book.

Yan Wei took a couple of steps back, struggling to accept her grandmother’s words.

Yan Baiyu joined in: “Even without considering his personal charm, he’s now a renowned musician with three compositions that can stand the test of time. He’s only slightly inferior to your grandfather. And you, you’re just an ordinary person.”

Seeing the disappointment on Yan Wei’s face, Yan Baiyu nodded in satisfaction and said what he truly wanted to say: “So you need to study hard. Don’t aim to be like me, at least become a world-class chef.”

“Don’t listen to him,” Madam Yan pulled Yan Wei into her arms. “You may not be as good as that Xia Yu, but marriage isn’t just about compatibility. Being incompatible just means it’s hard to stand tall after marrying into the family.”

Madam Yan analyzed step by step: “You’re not competing with Xia Yu, but with other seductive and vulgar women. With your conditions and my strategies, you’ll definitely win!”

“Okay,” Yan Wei regained a little confidence.

“Oh, by the way, do you know what Xia Yu’s girlfriend looks like?” Madam Yan had already decided to help her granddaughter win Xia Yu, and now she needed to know about the rival.

“I have her photo,” Yan Wei took out her phone and showed the two elders.

Yan Baiyu and Madam Yan stared at the photo for five seconds before turning to look at each other in shock and doubt.

“Is this An Siyao?” Yan Baiyu asked.

“It seems like her,” Madam Yan also thought so.

“It is her,” Yan Wei confirmed.

The two elders fell silent.

Madam Yan patted Yan Wei’s shoulder: “Give up.”

“Huh?” Yan Wei was stunned. They had just said she could definitely win, so why suddenly tell her to give up now?

“You can’t match her.”

Madam Yan’s words pierced Yan Wei’s heart like a sword.

“Why not?” Yan Wei asked.

“Although you have your secret weapon, her body is also quite good. To put it bluntly, she looks sexy in formal wear, while you look seductive. Although men secretly like seductive looks, they still need to consider appearances,” Madam Yan explained.

Yan Wei never thought her secret weapon would become her limitation.

Madam Yan continued: “I’ve seen An Siyao too. That type is the most popular among men. Plus, she’s skilled in piano, oil painting, and the art of flower arrangement, making her much more refined than you, a mere cook.”

Yan Wei lowered her head, feeling very depressed.

“Most importantly,” Madam Yan held Yan Wei’s hand, “she’s the sole heir of the Yu family and one of the heirs of the An family. These two families are nothing your grandfather, who is so unambitious, can compare to.”

“Hey, I’ve come this far and I’m still not enough?” Yan Baiyu interjected.

Madam Yan ignored Yan Baiyu. She held Yan Wei’s hand and tried to comfort her.

Yan Wei bit her lip.

Seeing her granddaughter’s condition, Madam Yan felt a pang of pity in her heart. She continued, “However, it’s not entirely without hope. I haven’t heard that Xia Yu and An Siyao’s relationship has been finalized. This means the An and Yu families haven’t made a decision yet. If the two families disagree, their relationship will face many obstacles.”

Yan Wei’s eyes lit up.

On the other side, Xia Yu returned home, took a shower, and entered the piano room.

He was playing the piece he had just composed, “Princess of Serenity.”

Halfway through the piece, Youxue walked in.

The girl had just taken a shower. Wearing plaid pajamas, she lay on the sofa, listening to Xia Yu’s performance.

Youxue’s musical literacy was ordinary, but sufficient to appreciate the beauty of the melody. After Xia Yu finished playing, she asked: “Is this a new piece?”

“Yeah, I’m planning to dedicate it to your senior sister Yao.”

“How nice,” Youxue expressed her admiration, while giving Xia Yu a hopeful look.

Xia Yu pretended not to understand and continued playing.

Youxue sighed again: “How nice it would be if I had one too.”

Xia Yu chuckled and stopped playing. He turned to Youxue and said: “I’m also planning to compose another piece. How about adding a line after the title: ‘Dedicated to my lovely little sister?'”

“Great, great!” Youxue readily agreed. Happily, she asked Xia Yu: “What style will this piece be?”

She imagined it would be a magnificent and lively piece.

“Hmm, a cheerful piece with a bit of a retro vibe,” Xia Yu said.

Youxue automatically interpreted cheerful as lively and retro as magnificent.

Her smile became even brighter. In her mind, she already pictured her classmates looking at her with admiration.

Xia Yu continued: “The name of this piece will be ‘Goblin Festival.'”

Youxue’s smile froze. The scene of her friends envying her in her mind changed into one of them laughing heartily.

Goblins are grotesque, short, ugly creatures commonly found in video games.

“I don’t want this!” Jumping onto Xia Yu’s back, hugging his neck, the girl protested angrily.

After getting enough amusement, Xia Yu promised Youxue that he would compose a lovely piece for her.

Throwing Youxue, who refused to get off his back, onto her bed, Xia Yu returned to his room and took over the body of the brown bear.
