The walls of the town were high and narrow, barely wide enough for two or three people to walk side by side. The arachnid demons, with their massive bodies, found it difficult to turn around once they reached the top. They could only stand firm by deeply embedding their limbs into the wall. Gunfire raged across the battlefield, and nearby expeditionary soldiers poured their firepower onto the colossal arachnid demon.
Bullets rained down on the arachnid demon clinging to the wall, most of them deflected by its thick armor. A few struck places where the armor did not cover, leaving only minor dents and damage—nothing more than superficial wounds.
This demonstrated that many of the soldiers were still novices. Arachnid demons, with their immense strength and heavy armor, were virtually impervious to small-caliber firearms. Even origin guns struggled to deal fatal blows. Experienced warriors would never waste their ammunition on such a mobile fortress; instead, they would target werewolves and servant spiders, picking off the weaker ones first. As for the level-six arachnid demon on the wall, it was up to the officers to deal with it.
The arachnid demon paid no heed to the trivial bullets, not even glancing at the nearby gun emplacements. Its limbs clung to the high wall as it hesitated whether to jump into the town.
The human town before it was the smallest and most cramped it had ever seen, even smaller than a settlement. The buildings were densely packed, and the winding roads could only accommodate a few people walking abreast. Even a werewolf’s bulk would have difficulty navigating without bumping into things. If the arachnid demon were to collapse a roof, it might get stuck in the rubble, unable to move.
Staring at the town engulfed in fierce battles, smoke, and fire, the arachnid demon found itself unable to find a place to land.
At that moment, Qian Ye darted towards the arachnid demon like an arrow, dodging its razor-sharp limbs. The muzzle of the Vulcan almost touched the arachnid demon as the six barrels began to spin!
The arachnid demon let out a startled roar and tried to curl up its body.
But it was too late. A torrent of hot metal rain spewed from the Vulcan, tearing through the arachnid demon’s armor and tough hide, and then pulverizing its flesh!
In an instant, the arachnid demon was mangled and bloody, its enormous body tumbling off the wall under the force of the impact. The arachnid demon, caught off guard but still resilient, thrashed its limbs, emitting a sharp hiss as it sliced through the air. Qian Ye, holding the Vulcan, used the town wall and the arachnid demon’s body as footholds, leaping away to evade its desperate counterattack.
When the arachnid demon’s massive body crashed to the ground, Qian Ye nimbly jumped back to the walltop, the streams of fire from the Vulcan relentlessly lashing at the arachnid demon.
The arachnid demon struggled amidst the hail of bullets, its howls growing fainter. Suddenly, the Vulcan emitted a click and stopped spinning. Qian Ye realized the entire 300-round magazine was empty.
Yet, the arachnid demon on the ground was still not dead. Its limbs continued to thrash, cutting the earth and sending dust flying. However, its abdomen was nearly shattered, and its organs were a twisted, bloody mess—such injuries meant certain death.
A particularly large black-furred werewolf captain was dragging an expeditionary sniper out of cover. Seeing this, he tossed the human aside, let out a long howl, and lunged at Qian Ye on all fours!
Qian Ye dropped the Vulcan, gave the werewolf captain a cold look, and leaped into the town, seemingly having no intention of engaging.
The werewolf captain roared in anger, leaped into the air, and soared over the high wall, landing where Qian Ye had disappeared. As its body was still in flight, it twisted its head to search for Qian Ye, but there was no sign of him amid the chaos of the battlefield.
The werewolf captain suddenly felt a sense of extreme danger. It abruptly lowered its head, just in time to see Qian Ye standing close to the town wall, pointing a pair of short guns at it. The disdainful look in Qian Ye’s eyes seemed to mock its rashness.
The werewolf captain howled, its body flashing with the light of origin power, instantly activating its defenses. But with the roar of the twin flowers, the werewolf captain was kicked back into the air, leaving a trail of blood.
Qian Ye charged towards where the werewolf captain had been thrown, knocking aside any werewolves and servant spiders in his path. He was determined to take down the level-six werewolf captain, not giving it a chance to recover. The werewolf’s defenses were extremely strong, especially for a captain-level warrior. Neither Eagle Strike nor the twin flowers could deliver a killing blow, and if it regained its footing, it would become a dangerous foe once again.
Meanwhile, the werewolf captain, who had just crashed to the ground, was struggling to get up.
A nearby expeditionary lieutenant had just dispatched a servant spider and, seeing the werewolf captain crash to the ground, rushed over with his assault rifle to finish the job. Three shots opened new wounds, but the werewolf showed no sign of falling. Instead, it stood up, letting out a chilling roar.
The lieutenant, pale from overuse of origin power, turned and fled in fear. But the werewolf captain pounced on him like lightning, biting off half his head in one bite!
Qian Ye, a step behind, bent slightly and charged forward.
The more injured a werewolf, the more ferocious it became. The werewolf captain, not one to back down from a challenge, also coiled its body, leaped, and lunged at Qian Ye, baring its fangs in a frenzied attack.
Qian Ye pushed forward with his left elbow, as if he didn’t see the werewolf captain’s fangs rather than claws. With his right hand, he drew Glowing Tooth, the dark red light flashing as it pierced the werewolf’s heart!
The werewolf captain bit into Qian Ye’s arm, only to find it was like biting into a block of alloy. Several of its teeth broke. Even as it died, it gazed at Qian Ye, bewildered that it couldn’t pierce the human’s armor, let alone dent it. Such defense was something it had only seen in high-level arachnid warriors.
The werewolf captain’s final thought was correct. Qian Ye’s arm armor was taken from a level-seven arachnid, already thick and reinforced with an origin array. Of course, mere teeth and claws couldn’t break through. For a typical human level-six warrior, such heavy armor would be unbearably cumbersome.
Qian Ye kicked away the werewolf’s corpse, examining the dented armor on his arm, and shrugged, gaining a fresh appreciation for the werewolf’s biting power.
Qian Ye looked around, spotting a struggling level-five arachnid in the ruins ahead. He accelerated, leaping in the last few meters and slamming into the arachnid. Qian Ye, clad in armor weighing hundreds of kilograms, tackled the arachnid, dragging both of them to the ground.
Qian Ye immediately jumped to his feet, while the arachnid, belly-up, flailed its limbs, unable to flip over.
Qian Ye pinned the arachnid down, plunging Glowing Tooth into its weakest spot, the abdomen. The level-one heavy armor offered little resistance, and the violent origin power shredded the arachnid’s insides.
After delivering the fatal blow, Qian Ye quickly retreated, evading the arachnid’s dying thrashes. The arachnid lashed out, its remaining strength spent, and debris flew, but it could not alter its fate.
Suddenly, a loud boom sounded behind Qian Ye. He felt as if a sledgehammer had struck his back, staggering a few steps before regaining his balance. A burning sensation spread across his back, accompanied by intense pain. At the same time, a chilling, bone-piercing dark origin power seeped into his body, only to be shattered upon contact with the tidal wave of the Art of War within him.
Qian Ye had been hit by an origin gun.
Scarlet origin power flowed and swirled around Qian Ye’s upper body, dispelling the remaining dark origin power. He turned to see a werewolf standing several dozen meters away.
The werewolf, looking at the still-glowing barrel, then at Qian Ye, and then at its own origin gun, was clearly in a state of confusion. It couldn’t understand why a full-strength shot had no effect on an unranked, seemingly weak human.
Qian Ye had no intention of letting the confused werewolf linger. He drew Glowing Tooth and charged, aiming for its heart. The werewolf roared, swiping at him with its claws. Qian Ye blocked one claw, allowing the other to rake his armor.
The werewolf’s claws left glowing marks on Qian Ye’s armor, creating deep scratches from shoulder to chest, but failing to penetrate. Meanwhile, Glowing Tooth easily pierced the werewolf’s chest, shattering its heart with a burst of violent origin power.
Qian Ye withdrew the short knife, laying the werewolf’s corpse on the ground. Using Glowing Tooth to kill a level-five werewolf was a bit of an overkill. But on the battlefield, the goal was to eliminate high-ranking enemies as quickly as possible.
He re-entered the fray, assisting several sniper teams and killing several more level-five werewolves. He then felt a burning sensation in his chest, a sign of overexertion.
Qian Ye slipped into a small house, leaning against the wall to catch his breath. He held a blood crystal, absorbing the rich, warm blood energy within. The blood crystal’s power was gentle and easy to absorb, unlike the blood energy that needed to be processed internally.
Qian Ye now understood why blood crystals were the common currency among the Blood Clan, similar to the energy-grade black crystals of humans, but superior in terms of energy storage and release.
A few minutes later, the blood crystal in Qian Ye’s hand faded to a grayish-white, fragile and crumbly. A light touch turned it to dust.
A large, shadowy figure flashed past the door. Qian Ye immediately rushed out, chasing the level-seven werewolf. The werewolf, sensing the pursuit, halted and turned, baring its fangs at Qian Ye.
As they faced off, the ground beneath them shook, and a deafening boom echoed nearby. A terrifying storm of origin power erupted into the sky.
Dawn and dark origin powers clashed fiercely, generating thunder and lightning. Several bolts struck the ground, igniting fires!
Both Qian Ye and the werewolf understood. Brams and Wei Bo Nian had begun their battle.
