Chapter 121: Formula for the Basic Magical Resonance Potion

Nie Yan admitted that, like all players, he was extremely greedy and had an intense desire for equipment.

Even the slightest probability of obtaining top-tier gear was enough to drive countless players into a frenzy.

However, Nie Yan was not a person without reason!

Like the last time he rolled the dice of fate, luck could be good or bad. Although he lost ten points of strength, Nie Yan had also gained incredible benefits. The function of the Rite of the Dead went without saying, and combined with Pandora’s Box, Nie Yan could completely disregard that loss of ten strength points.

If someone greedy yet irrational had been in his place, they might have thought their luck was consistently good, and recklessly gone ahead to open the coffin.

But if a prince-level vampire were to emerge, no matter how strong one might be, could one escape? A prince-level vampire would never let someone escape, effectively sealing one’s fate with a death sentence!

For Nie Yan, death was an unacceptable punishment. Dying once meant losing the Chapter of Courage.

Though greedy, Nie Yan only pursued what he was capable of obtaining. As for matters with uncontrollable outcomes, he would rather give them up. Having experienced it once, he no longer wished to place himself at the mercy of unpredictable fate.

Nie Yan walked past the three stone coffins, proceeding down the passage between layers of iron bars. When encountering areas with many monsters, he patiently hid in corners, waiting for the cooldown of the skills from the Ring of the Crawler and the Ring of the Weaver, then climbed over obstacles in high, hard-to-reach places.

Moreover, Nie Yan had become even more skilled in using the Ring of the Crawler, easily crossing multiple obstacles.

His use of both the Ring of the Weaver and the Ring of the Crawler had become increasingly proficient.

Without these rings, any other player arriving here would either have to retreat or would have already died in one of the passageways.

Using the Ring of the Crawler to bypass groups of zombies, Nie Yan scanned the lower passage with his eyes. Finding it empty, he judged it safe. He loosened his grip and jumped down from the ceiling, bending his legs slightly to land silently.

Just as Nie Yan was about to move forward, a wave of magical fluctuation came from behind a pile of crates nearby.

Nie Yan turned his head and saw a hideous zombie casting a spell, its hands gathering a dazzling ball of white electricity.

Wanderer Mage: Level 22, HP 820/820.

Don’t underestimate this Wanderer Mage just because it only had 820 HP. Nie Yan knew better than anyone how terrifying this creature was. If hit by its spell, it would hurt a lot, and with just two spells, Nie Yan could be killed. Fortunately, the Wanderer Mage’s magical attacks had a relatively long cooldown period.

If he fled, he might be able to escape the Wanderer Mage, but running forward for a hundred yards would alert the monsters ahead, putting himself in even more danger. Compared to that, it was better to contain the danger within a smaller area.

A crackling ball of electricity shot toward Nie Yan.

Nie Yan quickly retreated, watching the electric ball approaching, and rolled aside to dodge.

The exploding electric ball slammed into the wall with a bang, sending arcs of electricity flying everywhere.

Nie Yan took out his Bloody Crossbow and shot at the Wanderer Mage. Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh! Three bolts flew out.

Puh! Puh! Puh! All hit their mark, but each bolt only dealt around 15 damage to the Wanderer Mage. Without the additional damage enchantment on the bolts, the damage from the Bloody Crossbow could practically be ignored. This was exactly why Rogues could use crossbows to pull aggro but couldn’t use them to kill high-level monsters. Occasionally, one could exploit terrain to farm higher-level monsters, but anyone thinking a Rogue could go head-to-head with high-level monsters using only a crossbow and kite them to death would be foolish.

Nie Yan never thought he could kill the Wanderer Mage just by shooting bolts. The crossbow had a long attack cooldown, and while the Wanderer Mage attacked, Nie Yan had to dodge constantly. With such a long interval, the Wanderer Mage’s HP would recover somewhat over time.

How much time would it take to kill the Wanderer Mage this way?

However, from the previous engagement, Nie Yan had already figured out the cooldown for the Wanderer Mage’s magic attacks. Seeing that the Mage had just finished attacking, Nie Yan quickly sheathed the Bloody Crossbow and rushed toward it, closing the distance and stabbing it with his dagger.

Undead monsters were immune to stun effects and similar magical skills, which was frustrating for Rogues, meaning Nie Yan couldn’t interrupt the Wanderer Mage’s spells.

Nie Yan kept thrusting forward, and a series of -63 damage numbers floated up from the Wanderer Mage.

Considering the level difference, Nie Yan’s damage output was already decent.

Another critical strike combined with a vital point attack was unleashed. Although the Wanderer Mage didn’t have any specific weak spots, the damage bonus from the vital point attack skill was still effective. Seeing the Mage preparing another spell, Nie Yan quickly fled. If he stayed too close, he wouldn’t be able to dodge the spell.

A bolt of lightning shot toward Nie Yan, who quickly dodged behind a pile of crates. With a loud crack, the lightning struck the crates.

Nie Yan charged back toward the Wanderer Mage, timing his attack perfectly.

Although this back-and-forth was troublesome, after five minutes, Nie Yan successfully wore the Wanderer Mage down until it finally died.

Seeing the Wanderer Mage fall, Nie Yan finally exhaled in relief. With his current stats, he could indeed kill monsters above his level, but it was extremely exhausting. Spending so much time on it wasn’t really worth it. He picked up the item dropped by the Wanderer Mage and was surprised to find it was a potion recipe.

Recipe for Minor Magical Resonance Potion: Requires Novice Alchemist.

Attribute: Grants an additional 20 points of magical attack.

Ingredients: Red Ying Grass, Horn Powder, Neutralizing Agent, Sulfur.

Nie Yan didn’t expect to get something so good. Although he couldn’t use it right now, he figured he would soon be able to reach the Novice Alchemist level. Such a recipe for the Minor Magical Resonance Potion was extremely valuable at this stage, worth at least one gold coin.

Red Ying Grass wasn’t expensive, and the other three ingredients could be found in shops. Twenty points of magical attack at this level was incredible. Once players reached around level 20, it wouldn’t seem that impressive anymore. After all, this was an advanced item dropped from a level 25 map, and could be used by players from level 0 to 30.

Nie Yan stored the recipe for the Minor Magical Resonance Potion and continued moving through the maze-like Abraham Tomb using the same cautious methods. Since all the monsters here were above Nie Yan’s current level, he couldn’t even handle the most basic ones. Therefore, he had to be extremely cautious, spending a lot of time with every step forward.

After nearly two days of wandering through the tomb, Nie Yan finally found the core area of the tomb.

For the Chapter of Freedom, it was worth spending not just two days, but even more time!

Nie Yan sat atop a tall column, looking down at a vast plaza below, where squads of vampires patrolled back and forth. In the center of the plaza lay a massive crystal coffin—that was Abraham’s coffin.

Legend had it that Abraham would not awaken, but outside the crystal coffin stood two of his descendants, both level 25 bosses.

Not far from the coffin was a stone platform, and on it rested the Chapter of Freedom.

Nie Yan pondered how to bypass the patrolling vampires and obtain the Chapter of Freedom placed on the stone platform.

“Where are you now?” Ban Xing De Hu Li (Half-Awake Fox) sent a message to Nie Yan.

“I’m out leveling. Anything up?” Nie Yan replied.

“We’ve cleared the Sors Valley, well, at least the easy and normal difficulties. Want to come along and check it out?” Ban Xing De Hu Li was excited, hoping Nie Yan could join them in tackling the expert-level Sors Valley.

“I’m busy with something else right now, and I don’t need anything from Sors Valley.” Nie Yan replied. The gear from Sors Valley was indeed good, but compared to items like the Chapter of Freedom and the Chapter of Courage, it was in a completely different league. With those chapters secured, Nie Yan had no concerns about his gear keeping up. There was simply nothing in Sors Valley that could interest him.

Ban Xing De Hu Li gave a bitter smile. Nie Yan’s words instantly shattered the hope in his heart. Was even the expert-level Sors Valley not tempting enough for Nie Yan? Had Nie Yan already joined a team and cleared it? Nie Yan’s background was truly mysterious.

Thinking for a moment, Nie Yan added, “The official site said a new dungeon will open tomorrow, and you should qualify for it. A level-10 dungeon is also in the works. Once the system is fully tested, there will be a new dungeon almost every two or three days. Lower-level dungeons really aren’t worth much.”

“I heard that a new pharmacy has opened in the slums east of Carol City, and it’s selling Blackfen Potions. Do you know the shop owner?” Ban Xing De Hu Li asked cautiously, suspecting that Nie Yan might be the owner. Considering how Nie Yan had previously sold him a large quantity of Blackfen Potions, the shop owner might be Nie Yan himself, or at least closely connected to him. The shop never seemed to run out of stock—without strong backing, how could someone run such a big business?

“I know him. He’s a friend of mine, but he doesn’t like others knowing.” Nie Yan replied after a moment’s thought. Some things were better kept secret.

“Oh, I see.” Ban Xing De Hu Li nodded. “Almost forgot, you’re still leveling up. You go ahead. I’ll contact you later.”

“Alright.” Nie Yan ended the voice chat. Thanks to Ban Xing De Hu Li’s reminder, Nie Yan suddenly remembered that he had been constantly dealing with monsters here for the past two days, his mind constantly on edge, leaving him no time to manage the shop. And since he was already here, he had no plans to return to the city for now. He would get the Chapter of Freedom first. Suddenly, Nie Yan remembered that there were shop notifications in his message log. In his previous life, he had never run a shop, so in this life, he hadn’t developed the habit of checking shop notifications.

Nie Yan looked through his messages and opened the shop notification list. Row after row of shop notifications left him momentarily stunned.
