Chapter 44: A Friendly Reunion

At this moment, Qianye was about to disappear behind a slope. The figure of the pursuer gradually faded, and only the slight ripples in the scenery hinted at something moving.

It turned out that the person had nearly achieved complete invisibility while moving, no wonder Qianye could never catch the exact movements of the tracker.

An hour later, the silhouette of the follower faintly appeared on the summit of a mountain, as expected, Qianye was still within his sight. The man was still undecided on whether to make a move, for Qianye’s actions were quite unnatural, and he had spotted several opportunities for a long-range sniper shot.

However, a strong sense of danger lingered in his heart, continuously resisting the temptation.

The man was somewhat reluctant; it was just a seventh-rank warrior, even if a veteran from the battlefield, what was there to be afraid of? Nevertheless, his companion would join him tonight, should he wait a little longer?

In their line of work, lacking caution and patience would lead to a quick death.

As the tracker was still deliberating the pros and cons, he suddenly noticed a change in Qianye’s path. Below was a rugged valley, and after Qianye meandered for a while inside, he was actually heading towards this mountain peak!

The man immediately became alert, could it be that he had been discovered? But how? He quickly scanned the surrounding terrain again, and suddenly understood. No wonder Qianye wandered in the valley for so long, using the unique topography with many visual barriers to deduce the surveillance points. He, a ninth-rank assassin, had made a mistake due to such a simple method.

The assassin’s hand reached for his weapon, instinctively glancing towards a suitable sniping position nearby. Should he act now or retreat first?

While hesitating, a voice suddenly sounded in his ear: “You’ve been watching for a long time, is that person really that interesting?”

The assassin was startled, almost sliding down the steep slope in fear.

He turned abruptly, only to find a handsome, tall, blonde youth appearing beside him, even standing shoulder to shoulder, also looking at Qianye ahead.

The blonde youth looked relaxed and harmless, but the assassin felt like he had fallen into an ice cave, his body stiffening for a moment. He had no idea how this person appeared, nor how long he had been following him. If he could show up silently, then he could surely cut his throat without a sound.

After the initial shock, the assassin acted without hesitation, flipping his hand, and the weapon in his palm moved so fast that its shape couldn’t be seen, only a cold gleam flashing towards the blonde youth’s ribs. Simultaneously, he leaped away in the opposite direction.

The blonde youth seemed to not see the fatal cold light, shrugged, and said, “Are all of Ghostrans’ subordinates like this? Really not impressive!” As he spoke, he reached out and grasped the assassin’s throat, effortlessly as if the blow from a ninth-rank warrior didn’t exist.

He suddenly raised his blue-gray eyes, revealing a radiant smile, “Hey, my dear friend, good to see you again!” The blonde youth seemed to forget he was holding someone, and with a wave, the dying assassin shattered into several pieces, falling to the ground.

Hundreds of meters away on the hillside, Qianye’s eyes widened, a chill running from his head to his feet. He was also an expert in tracking and finally used the limited surveillance points due to the special terrain to find the tracker’s position.

Qianye anticipated that the opponent might have skills or equipment for invisibility, so although he didn’t see anyone at the summit initially, he came up to investigate based on his deduction. Unexpectedly, though he found the right spot, the scene after the invisibility broke was beyond his imagination!

He held a sixth-rank origin gun obtained from a vampire viscount, pointing the muzzle instinctively at the blonde youth.

The other party showed no intention of dodging, still smiling brightly, “Qianye, it’s me, William.”

Before he finished speaking, Qianye turned and ran, disappearing like a meteor.

William’s expression and movement froze. He shook his hand, which was still raised in the air, and dropped the remaining parts of the assassin, mouth agape, “Eh? Why did he run?”

A soft sound came from behind a flower-covered rock, a tall, curvaceous wolf-woman emerged from invisibility, her thick brown curls framing a pair of fluffy ears that perked up, then drooped, reflecting her mood.

“Sir, your friend…” The wolf-woman struggled to say, “is a human.”

“So what?”

“You just killed a human in front of him!” The wolf-woman added in her mind, and in a gruesomely bloody manner.

“That guy was here to kill him.”

“But he doesn’t know…”

“Eh?!” William soared into the air, chasing in the direction Qianye ran, throwing a word back, “Clean up.”

The wolf-woman’s ears and tail swayed dramatically, resigning herself to the task. She walked over to the dismembered assassin and began searching the items. The scent of blood and dawn origin force was still fresh and strong, making her want to pounce for a meal, but thinking of appearing before her lord’s human friend, she could only wipe her drool and continue working.

William chased for a short distance, realizing the situation was wrong; Qianye’s speed was much faster than he imagined. Just those few words of delay, and Qianye had already reached the valley exit.

“Qianye, wait,” he shouted, the sound rolling across the entire valley.

Hearing such power, Qianye naturally sped up. William was from the Peak of the Clans, the strongest and most mysterious werewolf tribe, where even the underage members had near-warrior strength.

On that night in Dark Blood City, Qianye had witnessed William in action, whose power was no less than that of the arachne viscount Brahms, and that might not even be his full strength.

Facing such overwhelming power, Qianye was unwilling to give him any chance to catch up.

Fighting was not an option. With Qianye’s current strength at the brink of eighth-rank, even using all his cards, including the sixth-rank gun and the black titanium annihilating bullet, he could at best leave a minor injury on William, and that would be if he got lucky enough to hit. After all, werewolves were kings of the mountains, and their ability to use the terrain was no less than that of human hunters.

William, after leaving the valley, started frowning. The direction Qianye chose was flat terrain, and he ran straight. In this way, neither the werewolf’s mountain advantage nor the warlord’s ability to float over obstacles was of any use. It was pure speed that mattered.

Unfortunately, William found that Qianye’s speed was not slower than that of a vampire viscount, and he showed no signs of slowing down after running tens of kilometers, clearly not a short burst. According to the current situation, Qianye might not shake off William, but it would be difficult for William to catch him, only relying on his overwhelming strength to exhaust Qianye.

This was definitely not a good idea.

The flat terrain Qianye chose, although a bit of a detour, could reach Shuo Yang Road within a day and night, greatly increasing the chance of encountering a human strongman. Even if William was a member of the Peak of the Clans, he wouldn’t dare to pass through Zhao Clan territory ostentatiously.

Looking at Qianye, it seemed he could run for a day and a night without stopping, and William was rather annoyed. He let out a long roar, the earth beneath his feet trembling slightly, and a golden giant wolf, several meters tall, appeared behind him, powerful origin waves surging into the sky.

William leaped, merging with the illusion in mid-air, and when he landed, he transformed into a majestic giant wolf, his fur white as frost, with a dazzling golden mane around his neck.

After transforming into a giant wolf, William’s speed doubled, and a golden lightning streaked across the land, catching up with Qianye in no time. The giant wolf leaped, soaring over Qianye’s head, landing in front of him.

At this moment, Qianye’s body was still uncoordinated after his advancement, and he nearly crashed into the giant wolf, barely reacting in time, halting his momentum and side-jumping a few meters.

But the giant wolf’s back alone was nearly two meters high, and its gaze from the blue-gray eyes weighed heavily like a mountain. The natural pressure spread outward in waves, even causing half-meter-tall wild grass to bend.

Qianye’s side jump did not escape the range of the pressure, feeling as if the whole mountain was pressing down on him. Under the immense pressure, his limbs felt heavy, and his internal origin force seemed to stagnate.

The giant wolf emitted a threatening growl, then slightly reined in the pressure, complaining, “You, running so fast…”

The pressure on Qianye eased a little, but his face changed drastically, was this William?

For werewolves, transformation usually only involved changes in the head and tail, maintaining a human form. Only some low-level cannon fodder, unable to take human form, remained entirely in wolf form, and it was unheard of for a warlord to transform into a giant wolf.

The giant wolf shook its neck, standing on its hind legs, the mane radiating a golden glow like sunlight. After the intense light, William stood there, his near-perfect muscular naked body on display. He grabbed a pair of trousers and pulled them on, “Qianye, can’t you—”

Before he could finish, Qianye stepped forward and punched out.

At this moment, William was in an awkward position, his trousers just halfway up. However, William paid no mind, freeing one hand, reaching out, and grabbing Qianye’s wrist, intending to pull him down.

But as their fists and palms met, a muffled thunder-like impact sounded, and William felt an unbelievable force from Qianye’s hand, which unexpectedly failed to stop his punch.

This was a surprise for William, and he immediately increased his strength, using five-tenths of his power to finally grab Qianye’s wrist.

Qianye’s wrist twisted and slipped free, simultaneously stomping the ground hard, elbowing out in a side strike, and crashing into William, taking a stance for close combat.

William felt the ground tremble under Qianye’s stomp, and he became suddenly alert, raising his strength to seven-tenths.

He knew that a human body was very fragile, especially for snipers and assassins, like the Ghostran assassin he had inadvertently torn apart earlier, so he had refrained from using dark origin force. But with his rank as a baron and a physique stronger than that of ordinary werewolves, his pure strength alone was enough to suppress a human warrior.

At this point, using seven-tenths of his strength against a seventh-rank warrior, William was already being quite cautious.
