Chapter 384: Draining Its Magic Points

Blackett the black bear roared gloomily, sweeping warriors off their feet one by one. Almost every so often, one or two warriors would perish, immediately replaced by others rushing in to take their place.

Some thieves were still active on the battlefield, collecting equipment dropped by fallen players. Periodically, a few of them would rotate to positions behind Blackett, using only the bleed skill before vanishing immediately afterward.

Nie Yan dared not act like them, as his attacks might draw Blackett’s aggro due to their high damage. Suddenly, he recalled that he had seen the “Hate Erasure” skill in Jiangnan’s skill list earlier.

“Hate Erasure” was a spellcaster skill that could eliminate all enmity from a specific player, allowing them to unleash attacks freely during that period.

Jiangnan had learned this skill from a magic tower, and it was particularly useful when participating in group dungeon raids.

“Jiangnan, cast ‘Hate Erasure’ on me!” Nie Yan said as he maneuvered behind Blackett the black bear.

At that moment, Jiangnan waved his staff, and a beam of white light fell upon Nie Yan, enveloping him in a faint luminous film.

Nie Yan checked his status: “Hate Erasure,” lasting for 30 seconds.

Thirty seconds would be enough!

Nie Yan struck Blackett’s back with a Backstab, slicing open his flesh, blood gushing out.

“Skeletonize!”

“Assassinate!”

“Detonate!”

Nie Yan unleashed a furious barrage of attacks. Although Blackett had decent physical defense, Nie Yan’s assault wasn’t purely physical; it included additional chaotic and armor-piercing damage, resulting in astonishingly high damage output.

Massive damage numbers floated above Blackett’s head, some even exceeding a thousand. Besides direct damage, there were also effects from bleed and poison.

These thirty seconds were extremely precious for him; he had to make full use of the “Hate Erasure” duration!

Although Nie Yan’s damage far exceeded that of other players, Blackett remained oblivious to his presence.

Nie Yan glanced at his damage output: over 16,000 in just thirty seconds!

As soon as the 30 seconds elapsed, Nie Yan immediately retreated, no longer daring to continue attacking.

Other members of the team didn’t have skills like “Hate Erasure,” and it would take Jiangnan about twenty minutes for the skill to come off cooldown.

From a distance, Yaoyao watched Nie Yan thoughtfully. It seemed that Nie Yan needed the “Hate Erasure” skill. She considered learning it herself, as it would occupy only one skill slot. As for the steep learning cost of one thousand gold, it was nothing to her.

What made Blackett most terrifying was his “Bloodlust” state. If there were more than five corpses nearby, activating “Bloodlust” would instantly restore his health, rendering all their efforts futile.

Corpse after corpse littered the ground as Blackett rampaged, sending warriors flying.

Each time Blackett erupted, one or two sacrificial warriors would charge in to block his attacks.

There was no alternative; if any of the three—Cui Can Dao Guang (Cui Candao Guang), Leng Ao Ying (Leng Aoying), or Yi Yan—were to fall, it would be a major disaster.

The mages never ceased their barrage, and the priests diligently maintained their healing.

Time ticked by. After roughly twenty minutes, Blackett’s health dropped to around 50%. At that moment, a deep growl rumbled from Blackett’s throat, like rolling thunder.

“Priests, purify the corpses on the ground! Hurry!” Nie Yan shouted. They had little time to react!

There were at least a dozen corpses lying around Blackett.

Nie Yan had already warned them beforehand. Upon hearing his reminder, the priests sprang into action, casting Purify in unison. Beams of white light rained down, dissolving the corpses into nothingness.

The ground was cleared.

“Bloodlust!”

Blackett’s skin turned a vivid red, streams of energy rushing toward him. However, with no corpses nearby, his effort was in vain.

Blackett angrily swiped a paw, instantly killing a player, his health immediately surging by about 5%.

“All other warriors, fall back! Dao Guang, Ao Ying, Yi Yan, hold him down! Priests, shield them! Paladins, apply buffs!” Nie Yan calmly directed the team. He was merely relying on vague memories from videos he had seen before; in truth, he wasn’t a professional commander.

Even though it was his first time commanding, he couldn’t afford to appear like a novice. As the leader of Niuren Tribe and the backbone of the entire team, if he panicked, the entire team would collapse.

A total party wipe was normal; even if they were wiped once or twice, they could simply resurrect and return.

The game’s core system was interesting. Every five levels, players could allocate a stat point. This meant that losing one or two levels due to death had little impact on overall team strength, allowing them to keep progressing in challenging content.

Blackett’s “Bloodlust” state was short-lived. It mainly absorbed corpses, so without any nearby, the skill was rendered useless.

The players were astonished at how Nie Yan had known Blackett would use “Bloodlust.” He simply claimed he had learned it from some random information he had acquired.

In Faith, various side stories and historical records often circulated. Sometimes they were quest items, sometimes just ordinary junk, often containing all sorts of myths, legends, and historical accounts. It was perfectly normal for Nie Yan to have stumbled upon information about Blackett.

“When Blackett reaches around 20% health, he will use ‘Bloodlust’ again. Priests, stay alert!” Nie Yan warned. The team’s coordination was excellent, and they had safely navigated the first crisis.

Cui Can Dao Guang, Leng Ao Ying, and Yi Yan weathered Blackett’s furious onslaught, and the surrounding warriors regrouped, significantly easing the pressure.

Another ten minutes passed. Blackett’s health dropped to 23%. The team remained focused on their respective roles when Blackett let out a low growl, as if preparing something, a powerful force gathering like an imminent volcanic eruption.

The priests assumed Blackett was about to use “Bloodlust” again and raised their staves, ready to cast Purify.

Seeing Blackett’s stance, Nie Yan’s heart tightened. He was about to use “Dark Roar!”

“All mages, retreat! Leave the area within a hundred yards! All priests, cast Holy Shield on yourselves!” Nie Yan commanded gravely. The mages had to evacuate or risk instant death. The priests couldn’t leave, as their absence would doom the warriors in front. Fortunately, Holy Shield could mitigate the damage from “Dark Roar.”

Upon hearing Nie Yan’s command, the mages didn’t hesitate and immediately fled backward.

The priests quickly cast Holy Light Shields, enveloping themselves in white barriers.

The warriors braced themselves.

Cui Can Dao Guang and Leng Ao Ying held their shields firmly against Blackett’s body. Suddenly, Blackett unleashed a heavy roar, sending a powerful shockwave sweeping across the hundred-yard radius. More than ten mages who hadn’t escaped in time were instantly annihilated by the blast wave, collapsing lifelessly.

The front-line warriors lost more than 50% of their health. The priests behind, protected by Holy Light Shields, still lost 70-80% of theirs, with a few weaker priests instantly killed.

Blackett swept his massive paw, sending more than ten warriors flying, eliminating another group.

Cui Can Dao Guang, Leng Ao Ying, and Yi Yan, benefiting from the priests’ holy light, fared slightly better. After losing about 50% of their health from “Dark Roar,” the priests quickly healed them back up. Though they lost around 70% from being knocked back, they survived, and the priests immediately cast healing spells on them.

The area around Blackett was littered with corpses.

At that moment, Blackett’s throat rumbled with another growl.

“Priests, quickly purify the corpses!” Nie Yan shouted anxiously.

The priests hurriedly cast Purify, but it was too late. There were too many corpses. They managed to eliminate most of them but still left several behind. As a result, Blackett’s health surged back to 83%.

The team members looked at each other in disbelief. They had fought desperately, reducing Blackett’s health to around 20%, only for him to restore it to 83% with a single move. If he kept using similar skills, would they ever be able to defeat him?

Their morale was severely shaken.

At that moment, Nie Yan shouted in the team chat: “Great job! Only three corpses left for Blackett. Everyone, keep going! Warriors, continue to reinforce, mages, return! This is just the beginning. Blackett’s magic is nearly depleted. His mana regenerates only once per natural day!”

They suddenly remembered that Blackett had magic to consider. If his magic were inexhaustible, allowing him to use “Bloodlust” at will, they would never be able to defeat him. However, Nie Yan had stated that Blackett’s magic could only regenerate once per day. Once his magic was exhausted, they could finally wear him down and kill him.

Reinvigorated with renewed confidence, the warriors charged forward, and the mages resumed their positions, unleashing magical barrages once more.

Under their relentless assault, Blackett’s health slowly declined again.
