Chapter 488: Viper Dagger

Nie Yan kept handing in the fragments of the musical score. When he handed in the twelfth fragment, he received another Fate Wheel, this time rewarding over a thousand gold coins. However, money and experience could never compare to equipment and flying mounts.

Nie Yan felt somewhat depressed. His luck seemed pretty bad today. Still, he decided to continue. Since he had already come this far, he would just hand in all thirty-six fragments.

When he handed in the seventeenth fragment, a crisp system prompt sounded, indicating he had leveled up and reached level seventy-three.

When handing in the eighteenth fragment, he received experience points again.

It was extremely difficult to obtain legendary items or flying mounts, as the combined probability was merely 2%.

Time and again, the results left Nie Yan and Tang Yao disappointed.

“I think we should give up. We’ll just be satisfied with getting anything at all; we shouldn’t expect too much,” Tang Yao said, somewhat dejectedly.

Nie Yan failed four times in a row, making him realize how difficult it was for Broken Sky to obtain a sub-legendary piece of equipment in his previous life.

On the fifth try, Nie Yan casually spun the Fate Wheel, and the pointer finally stopped at the “Special Item” section.

With a ‘ding,’ an item dropped into Nie Yan’s backpack. His heart skipped a beat as he checked the item’s attributes.

Eye of Kielg: Special Item.

Item Description: Crafted from the eyes of the zealous goblin engineer Kielg, this item allows the user to clearly imprint all seen images into their mind and has a certain chance to reveal hidden entities. When using this item, the player’s movement speed is reduced to 50% of the original.

The Eye of Kielg was quite suitable for adventures, as it could help avoid danger, making it a very useful item.

“I got a special item,” Nie Yan said, sharing the item’s attributes with Tang Yao.

Tang Yao pondered for a moment and said, “If you have the Mage’s Eye of Penetration, the Eye of Kielg seems relatively less useful.”

The Mage’s Eye of Penetration was also an adventure skill, and for ordinary players, it might feel more practical than the Eye of Kielg.

However, Nie Yan had his own unique insights regarding the Eye of Kielg.

“This thing is way more useful than the Eye of Penetration,” Nie Yan smiled mysteriously. “I’ve looked for similar items before but couldn’t find any. With this, I can pull off something truly spectacular.”

“What spectacular thing? What are you planning?”

“I want Kuangfa and Holy Flame to perish in their own fortress,” Nie Yan said coldly, his eyes glinting with a frosty light.

“You want to infiltrate their fortress and hunt them down? Do you have any confidence?” Tang Yao asked, shocked by Nie Yan’s words.

“If I’m just a rogue, I have a 30% chance. If I successfully advance to Shadow Dancer, it increases to 50%. With assistance, it could go up to 90%,” Nie Yan replied, immediately thinking of Sun and King’s Domain. With their help, he would dare to attack even the headquarters of Angel Domination.

“This game is so dangerous. You really need to think carefully,” Tang Yao said with a bitter smile. Nie Yan was truly crazy to even attempt this.

“We’ll talk about it after I become a Shadow Dancer,” Nie Yan smiled.

After handing in all the musical score fragments, Nie Yan checked his current experience bar, which had reached 79% of level seventy-three. “So fast! If I were grinding monsters for experience, I don’t know how long it would take to gain this much.”

For the final spin of the Fate Wheel, Nie Yan looked at the spinning wheel with a lighter heart. Coming here and obtaining the Eye of Kielg was already a good deal. Whatever else he got would be up to fate.

Nie Yan casually spun the Fate Wheel without even paying attention to the Pandora’s Box prompt. The wheel stopped abruptly, clearly pointing at the legendary item section.

He looked at the wheel in disbelief, unable to trust his own eyes at first. However, the pointer had indeed stopped at the legendary item section. With a 1% probability, he had actually hit the jackpot.

With a ‘ding,’ the sound of equipment dropping into his inventory sent chills down his spine. Nie Yan checked his backpack and saw a golden dagger quietly lying in the corner. The dagger had a very unique shape; its curved blade resembled a venomous snake ready to strike. The surface was covered with golden scales, and at the tip were two barbed hooks, like a snake’s fangs, emitting a cold, menacing glow.

Nie Yan checked the dagger’s attributes.

Kraut Viper Dagger: Required Strength 800, Agility 1000, Level 70. (Currently Unusable)

Item Description: A dagger crafted by the rogue Kraut using a golden viper.

Item Attributes: Attack +1020, +15% Poison Damage, Strength +300, Agility +220, Focus +30. Bonus Skill: Release Venom. When this skill is used, it paralyzes the opponent, preventing movement and the use of any skills for 5 seconds. Skill Cooldown: One full day.

Limitation: Can only be used by rogues of the Lawful Good Light faction.

A dagger with an attack value of 1020 was quite impressive. Unfortunately, it was only a level 70 legendary item. Once players reached level 100, this dagger would become somewhat outdated.

However, it would take quite a while for players to level up to 100.

Nie Yan’s level was already far ahead of the general player base. Most ordinary players were only around level 60, with none reaching level 70 yet. Although the difference was less than ten levels, the experience required was significantly higher, as higher levels were increasingly difficult to achieve.

Seeing the name Kraut, Nie Yan pondered. Kraut was one of the eight rogues, known as the “Viper,” who had killed many dragons with his deadly poison.

Could this viper dagger be related to the Nightingale organization?

As Nie Yan was deep in thought, wondering whether obtaining this viper dagger was mere luck, he heard Blymire beside him say, “I brought this from the distant Saturn Empire. When I found it, it was dull and lifeless, like scrap metal. But now, it has regained its glory. It has chosen you. Take it and seek the path of light.”

“Respected Mr. Blymire, where should I go?” Nie Yan asked.

“To the distant Orcish capital, where they once fought. The Saturn Empire now occupies it, but their stories still live on. Seek out Chief Blaize; he will give you the answers you seek.” Each word from Blymire seemed cryptic, concealing many secrets.

Nie Yan understood that sometimes it was futile to try to extract more clues from NPCs. Persisting foolishly in asking questions would only provoke annoyance.

Nie Yan and Tang Yao exchanged glances. They had already obtained two items here, which was a good haul. It was time to leave.

The two bid farewell to Blymire and exited his house.

“Should we let Guo Huai and the others continue collecting musical score fragments?” Tang Yao asked. Overall, collecting the fragments was still quite profitable.

“It’s still too early to start collecting. Players aren’t able to enter the depths of the Doren Mountains yet,” Nie Yan replied. Players would need to reach at least level 100 before they could obtain Blymire’s musical score fragments.

“Then I’ll let them know first and have them keep an eye out. We can deal with this later,” Tang Yao said.

“Where are you heading next?” Nie Yan asked. After finishing their current tasks, Tang Yao should go level up, or else his level would fall behind.

“I’ll prepare some consumables and go train in the wild. Later, I’ll join you again to search for treasure chests,” Tang Yao replied.

“Then I’ll head to the Rogue’s Guild first,” Nie Yan said. He had just remembered there was still a reward to collect. He hoped that reward hadn’t already been taken by someone else.

After parting ways with Tang Yao, each went their separate way.

Nie Yan headed directly toward the Rogue’s Guild. After collecting the reward, he planned to visit a master-level gem artisan to upgrade some of his special items.

Nie Yan, cloaked in his hood, entered the Rogue’s Guild. The guild hall was filled with people, and amidst the sea of players, he was just another unremarkable figure, unnoticed by anyone.

The main tower of the Rogue’s Guild had been built into a fifty-story high tower. At the very top, players could access some rare quests. There were two ways to reach the top: one was by magical elevator, which could ascend in just over thirty seconds, and the other was by climbing the stairs, which required traversing over two thousand steps and would take at least ten minutes.

Nie Yan looked up at the main tower. The magical elevator moved quickly, hovering semi-suspended in the air. Occasionally, a few players would board it, while others disembarked, all busy with their own tasks and eager to make every minute count.

Nie Yan entered the main tower but did not take the elevator like ordinary players. Instead, he chose to climb the spiral staircase, step by step, slowly yet steadily.

Through the windows of the main tower, he could see the beautiful scenery outside—densely packed magical-style buildings. Though many of them were somewhat aged, they still carried a unique charm, stretching endlessly into the distance.

The magical elevator swiftly passed by the edge of the main tower. Players on the elevator could see Nie Yan slowly climbing the stairs, step by step, moving as slowly as a snail. Climbing over two thousand steps would take so much time!

“Haha, look at that idiot. He’s climbing the stairs instead of taking the elevator,” laughed a level 60+ rogue.

“That guy is such a fool, still climbing up there.”

Mocking laughter echoed from the elevator, but Nie Yan acted as if he hadn’t heard anything, continuing his slow, peaceful ascent.

These players could never understand what he was doing now, and there was no need for him to explain to them. He recalled a saying: Walk your own path and let others talk.
