Chapter 750: Legendary Treasure Chest

The Demon Slaughterer launched a frenzied attack, like an enraged beast. The group of thieves gradually found it hard to hold their ground.

“Boss, hurry up!”

“We can’t hold on much longer!”

Nie Yan quickened his pace and finally approached the central altar. After being bombarded by thousands of magic bombs, the altar had partially collapsed, but its main structure remained intact.

It was a raised platform, about two to three yards higher than the plaza, circular in shape. On its surface was a vivid relief of a demon, with a ferocious face, sharp fangs, and icy eyes, lifelike and realistic. This demon pattern was the totem of the Dark Elf tribe.

Nie Yan walked to the center of the altar, where there was a small pit at the very center.

He immediately thought of the treasure key in his backpack, which should fit this pit perfectly.

Nie Yan took out the treasure key and slowly inserted it into the pit. The size was just right, a perfect fit.

With a creaking sound.

The entire altar began to move slowly. The central rock gradually shifted aside, and a rectangular chest slowly rose upward.

This chest was extremely old, from an unknown era, and severely worn out.

However, as the chest appeared, a powerful force surged forth.

It was a very pure power, awe-inspiring and overwhelming.

The item inside this chest was definitely not ordinary.

It wasn’t locked. Nie Yan stepped forward and began to open the treasure chest.

Just as Nie Yan touched the chest, the Demon Slaughterer in the distance sensed something. It turned its gaze toward the altar, noticing Nie Yan opening the chest. Letting out a low growl, it swung its greatsword, which suddenly erupted into blazing flames, as if sharing its fury.

Flapping its wings with a swoosh, the Demon Slaughterer took flight, rushing straight toward Nie Yan.

“Boss, watch out!”

“Boss, the Demon Slaughterer is coming!”

Gasps of alarm echoed through the group chat.

Nie Yan opened the chest, hadn’t even looked inside yet, when he heard the frantic cries from the group chat. He looked up and saw the Demon Slaughterer already descending upon him.

It was too late!

Without hesitation, Nie Yan immediately reached into the chest. A completely icy object landed in his palm. He couldn’t tell what it was, but he could feel it was made of some unknown metal. The intense cold radiating from it made Nie Yan shiver involuntarily.

The item was heavy in his hand. After grabbing it, he had no time to take anything else.

Nie Yan tossed it into his backpack. The chest definitely contained more than just this one item, but he had no time to grab more.

The Demon Slaughterer was already upon him. Swinging its greatsword, a slash of sword energy came hurtling down.

As the deadly slash neared, Nie Yan decisively gave up trying to retrieve more items from the chest. Using Shadow Dance, he dashed away.

Level eighteen Shadow Dance—Nie Yan’s figure vanished in an instant.

The slash swept past Nie Yan, and a large “MISS” floated above his head.

The Demon Slaughterer accelerated in pursuit, its entire body now engulfed in raging red flames. Nie Yan’s theft had ignited its fury, and now all its hatred was focused on him.

While his invincibility period was still active, Nie Yan quickly produced a random teleportation scroll in his right hand and crushed it directly.

Using a random teleportation scroll during invincibility made it harder to be tracked.

With a flash of light, Nie Yan vanished from the spot.

“Cursed human! You’ve stolen the Paternoster Hammer—you will pay for this!” The Demon Slaughterer spoke in broken Common tongue, then spread its wings and flew off toward the south.

“Everyone, retreat temporarily!” Nie Yan said in the party chat. He had no idea where he had teleported to—around him was nothing but green grassland.

“Boss, the Demon Slaughterer flew away, but it might be coming after you again. Run fast!” Luonan de Qingwa (Fallen Frog) anxiously warned in the party chat.

The Demon Slaughterer was going to chase him again?

Nie Yan was momentarily stunned. It seemed he was about to start running for his life. Suddenly remembering something, he messaged the team: “The chest hasn’t been fully looted yet. Take everything from it, revive the fallen teammates, and wait for me in the Orcish King’s City.”

“Understood.”

Fallen Frog began organizing the team, directing the priests to resurrect the fallen warriors. After checking that all teammates had been revived, he walked toward the treasure chest at the center of the altar.

After Nie Yan had taken the Paternoster Hammer from the chest, he hadn’t even had time to close it. Fallen Frog quickly reached into the chest.

In no time, he retrieved three legendary-grade equipments and a blue diamond-shaped crystal. Checking its name, it was called a Shattered Divine Core, with no clear indication of its use.

After confirming there were no other items in the chest, Fallen Frog messaged Nie Yan: “Boss, we’ve got everything.”

“What exactly did you get?”

“Three legendary-grade equipments, but they’re all restricted for elves. Also, there’s a strange crystal.” Fallen Frog replied in the party chat.

“Those three legendary equipments can go to Sanjie Buliu (Three Realms Without Trace), since we can’t use them anyway. What’s that crystal?”

“That crystal is called a Shattered Divine Core, but there’s no description on its usage,” Fallen Frog explained.

“A Shattered Divine Core?” Nie Yan was momentarily stunned. He suddenly remembered that he also had a crystal named Shattered Divine Core in his backpack, obtained during his class change to Holy Shadow Dancer.

Finding the same item in two different places, Nie Yan immediately sensed that this item was no ordinary one.

“Just keep that crystal for now. Give it to me when I return. I want to figure out what it’s for. Getting a second one might give me some new clues,” Nie Yan said.

After ending the voice chat, Fallen Frog approached Sanjie Buliu, Su Youyou, and others.

“Greetings,” Fallen Frog greeted.

“Greetings,” Sanjie Buliu replied.

“Our boss asked me to hand over these three equipments to you, along with today’s payment for the shamans. Please distribute it accordingly,” Fallen Frog said, transferring the items and some gold coins to Sanjie Buliu.

Sanjie Buliu replied with some embarrassment: “We couldn’t help at all here. We really don’t deserve these three legendary equipments. Please let Boss Nie Yan take them back.”

“This was Boss Nie Yan’s order. Please accept them. These equipments are useless to us anyway.”

If ordinary players encountered three legendary-grade items, they would definitely want to keep them for themselves. Sanjie Buliu, however, wasn’t greedy. Fallen Frog developed a slight sense of admiration for Sanjie Buliu and his team.

At Fallen Frog’s insistence, Sanjie Buliu accepted the three legendary pieces of equipment, over twenty thousand gold coins, and more than fifty Rebirth Emblems.

Nie Yan was indeed quite generous.

Looking at the over three hundred thousand gold coins Nie Yan had previously given him, Sanjie Buliu suddenly made up his mind. Since Nie Yan was determined to establish a branch in the Satyrn Empire, he would do his utmost to assist him.

After everything was settled, everyone used recall scrolls to return to the Orcish King’s City, leaving behind a scene of utter devastation.

A while later, several elven thieves arrived at the scene. They were stunned by what they saw—scorch marks from flames were everywhere on the central plaza, which had been utterly destroyed. They could imagine how fierce the battle had been.

The elves searched around but found nothing had been left behind. They approached the altar at the center, which was now cracked into pieces. A large chest lay open in the middle, completely empty.

They immediately sent a message to Angwing Angel (Rising Winged Angel).

“What’s the situation there?” Angwing Angel privately asked.

“Earlier, because of Gold Dragon Thief Nie Yan and Paladin Levers blocking our way, we couldn’t get through at all. We only dared to come here after they left. By then, the battle had already ended. The central area of the Dark Elf tribe was in complete disarray, cleaned up thoroughly. The battle must have been extremely intense, but we didn’t find the boss’s corpse.”

“Logically speaking, if they had killed the boss, the corpse should still be here,” Angwing Angel frowned, wondering what exactly Nie Yan and his team had done in the Dark Elf tribe.

Angwing Angel was quite perceptive about quests. After the Dark Elf tribe was opened, he immediately organized a thousand-man team to attempt its first clear, but unexpectedly, Nie Yan intercepted them, causing their efforts to go in vain. Even now, he still had no idea what secrets the Dark Elf tribe held.

“We searched thoroughly and indeed found no boss corpse. However, we did discover an open legendary-grade chest at the central altar of the Dark Elf tribe,” the elven thief reported in the team chat.

“A legendary-grade chest!” Angwing Angel gasped in disbelief. Since the game’s launch, Angel Dominion had only ever opened one sub-legendary chest. As for legendary-grade chests, they had only heard rumors about them but had never actually seen one.

Hearing the report from his subordinates, Angwing Angel’s mood inexplicably became restless.

Nie Yan used a recall scroll and returned to the Orcish King’s City, quickly slipping into a quiet alley. Within the city, the demonic lord wouldn’t threaten him anymore, considering the numerous powerful legendary NPCs guarding the city. Defeating a level 130 demonic lord was no difficult task here.

Entering the house purchased by the Bullman Tribe in the Orcish King’s City, Nie Yan finally found himself alone. Eagerly, he took out his spoils.

It was a silver-white hammer!

As Nie Yan pulled out the hammer, a chilling coldness surged forth, accompanied by flashes of electricity, causing the entire room’s atmosphere to become heavy and stagnant.
