Sebastian stated, “It is the ancient essence of the void beast known as Chaos. It has endured for innumerable eons without decay, and one can only imagine the terrifying power it possesses.”
“Little is known about the Chaos beast, even within the records of the Evernight side, and the Empire knows even less. However, remnants of other void beasts have been discovered across various continents, all of which are extremely powerful resources. For cultivators, they are a path to transcending the heavens for those of divine rank or higher, and for war machines, the materials are used in the construction of void fortresses, celestial fire warships, mechanical weapons of level ten and above, and even the creation of legendary firearms.”
Their sources of information now came from the intelligence sent by the expeditionary forces to each battle zone, as well as from news peddlers like Ghostsorcerer, and some connections that Sebastian had among the noble clans. They only knew bits and pieces. Yet, even these scant details were enough to give them an idea of why this bloodbath was so significant, even surpassing the previous discovery of the legacy left by the Blackwing Monarch.
Qian Ye finally understood why the two factions were willing to go to such lengths to seize it.
The price the Evernight side had to pay to awaken the Night Queen was unimaginably heavy. On the Empire’s side, the Polar King was the undisputed head of the celestial ranks. When he ascended to the rank of Celestial, he pointed to the southern sky, filled with stars. “The Southern Dipper in the Heavens, pointing to the North Star to ask the Dao” became a celebrated scene in the Empire at that time, and he was thus bestowed the title “Polar King.”
The Polar King had lived through three dynasties and had not appeared in public for over thirty years. Some said he was in seclusion, practicing a world-shaking technique, while others claimed he followed the footsteps of the twenty-third Emperor of the Empire to the peak of the world. All that people could be certain of was that he had not fallen. The fact that the Empire had managed to summon him out indicated that the cost would not be much less than that of the Evernight.
Even with such a powerful lineup, the joint forces of the Evernight and the Empire were unable to gain the upper hand in their confrontation with the Sky Ghost, merely managing to break apart the essence of the void beast and scatter it in all directions. The majority of the fragments still fell into the hands of the Sky Ghost, with the Evernight Parliament and the Empire obtaining a small portion, showcasing the might of the Sky Ghost. Now, with the Iron Curtain reopening, it was clear that the Sky Ghost had not given up and intended to continue collecting the scattered essence fragments.
Qian Ye furrowed his brows, “Then, it seems the coming battles are not for our level to participate in.”
Sebastian hesitated for a moment before saying, “I have received top-secret information. After the great battle, the landscape of the land changed, and the ancient essence fragments fell into an abyss without a bottom. Both the Empire and the Evernight Parliament are sending people in to explore. Due to the interference of the void current, the original force of those who enter will be entirely dispersed. Well, not entirely, but the standard unit of the original force is what gets scattered. Therefore, the first group sent by the Empire was composed of powerhouses whose combat strength surpassed their levels.”
Qian Ye suddenly had a premonition, and sure enough, Sebastian looked at him and said, “Jun Du Zhao is among them.”
Qian Ye did not say anything, turning his gaze towards the grand drill field, where the craftsmen and technicians were already dismantling the test equipment. Everyone was still basking in the joy of the experiment’s success.
Following his gaze, Sebastian’s eyes landed on Nan Gong Little Bird and suddenly said, “By the way, there is another person in the group entering the abyss that you should know about. That is, Xu Lang.”
Qian Ye was taken aback; the name sounded familiar, but he could not place it.
“The first graduate of the class ahead of ours in the Netherworld. Haha.” Sebastian’s laughter was icy, “He is now serving in the Red Scorpion, with the rank of brigadier general, belonging to the Scorpion Needle Regiment, and is an extraordinarily brilliant talent. You understand the internal structure of the Red Scorpion better than I do, and you should know his status and strength.”
Qian Ye turned to look at Sebastian, shocked. In this situation, the names of the Netherworld and the Red Scorpion resurfaced, along with the possibility of former classmates. Various fragments of memories floated in his mind, and the corner of his past that was still hidden seemed about to be revealed to the light.
Struggling to control his thoughts, Qian Ye pushed a heavy name deep into his memories. He listened carefully as Sebastian told him about Xu Lang’s brief appearance in Blackflow City, then nodded, apparently this senior was connected to the Nan Gong family in some way. And since Xu Lang was a current officer of the Red Scorpion, could he also be related to Nan Gong Little Bird?
“Sebastian, apart from the Nan Gong family of Yishui, does the Empire have any other noble or aristocratic families with the surname Nan Gong?”
Sebastian thought for a moment, “It could also be a humble family. Why?” He suddenly remembered something, “You asked about a woman with the surname Nan Gong last time? What was her name?”
“Nan Gong Yuqing,” Qian Ye said, “Someone asked me to find her or her descendants. I inquired through some news peddlers, but got nothing. Perhaps it’s difficult for outsiders to learn about the internal situations of the noble families.”
After pondering for a bit, Sebastian said, “I understand, I will help you keep an eye out.”
Qian Ye nodded, falling silent once more. After a while, Sebastian added, “A thousand miles around the vortex of the great battlefield have been sealed off. If you want to go there, it’s best to visit the Zhao family base first. Using their name, you’ll find it easier to get anywhere.”
Qian Ye remained silent for a longer period before saying bitterly, “Let’s wait for the news from the Imperial military.”
Clearly, the Sky Ghost had not given up on the remaining essence fragments, and the Evernight Parliament also had no intention of stopping. The Empire would definitely want to get involved, and it was only a matter of how much they were willing to pay. The members of the aristocratic families and special elite legions had already entered, and if they needed to expand further, they would recruit externally. Given the current position of Blackflow City in the expeditionary force, it would be one of the first to receive any news.
The waves of turbulence rolled across the continent of Evernight, and a particularly ancient region of the upper world was not calm either.
This day was of great importance to the entire Evernight Parliament.
The grandest building in the center of the parliament, the eternal Great Hall towering at a height of a thousand meters, slowly opened its gates. These colossal doors, each standing 270 meters tall, required no mechanical power. Behind each door, two illustrious Marquises strained with all their might to push them open.
The Eternal Great Hall was the location where the Evernight Parliament held its plenary sessions, but most of the time, the representatives entered and exited through the side doors. Only during extremely solemn ceremonies or when very important figures were present would the main gates be opened. In the past century, these gates had remained tightly shut.
Above the Great Hall, the night sky stretched endlessly, unchanging since time immemorial. It was said that during the era of the founding of the Evernight Parliament, the seven giants who created the Evernight Parliament joined forces to transform the heavens and earth, permanently turning the sky here into a perpetual night.
To this day, only four of the seven major dark races represented by the seven founding giants remained, yet the sky above the Eternal Great Hall remained unchanged. In the Evernight world, this hall and its location were the greatest miracle.
Suddenly, a streak of crimson lightning fell from the night sky, descending from the heavens to the earth, leaving a scarlet gash in the air. More and more crimson lightning bolts descended, soon turning the area within nearly a hundred kilometers into a forest of crimson electricity.
In the center of the dense lightning, countless bolts began to twist and intertwine as if endowed with life and spirit, eventually forming the outline of a spatial portal. From within the portal, emerged a woman with black hair and a black dress.
When she appeared, almost every heart in the world skipped a beat. This was an indescribable woman. Even standing in front of her, one couldn’t tell whether they saw her or not.
Almost no one could remember her face, and no one could determine whether she was beautiful or ugly. She was clearly there, but when looking at her, one’s vision felt like a blank canvas. But if one closed their eyes, her image would be etched deep into the soul, never to be forgotten.
She was the only woman in the world without a portrait or any memory of her appearance. No matter how powerful the individual, they only remembered her with her flowing black hair and the unchanging black dress.
This was the Night Queen, Lilith.
Before Lilith, steps formed of solidified blood appeared in the void, leading all the way to the entrance of the Eternal Great Hall.
Lilith stepped down, each step seeming to tread on the heartbeat of every living being. The world was silent, no one making a sound. And silence and eternity were the highest respects paid to the Night Queen.
Standing at the entrance of the Eternal Great Hall, she raised her head and quietly gazed at the seven totemic symbols arranged in a circular pattern above the doors. Each symbol represented an ancient race that had founded the Evernight Parliament.
However, now, one of the races behind the totems had forever disappeared, and two others were on the brink of extinction, struggling to survive in remote corners of the continent. The glory of the founders of the Evernight Parliament had long since faded, perhaps never to return.
After a long time, she let out a soft sigh and entered the Eternal Great Hall.
The Eternal Great Hall, standing a thousand meters high, had a grand assembly hall with a dome ceiling eight hundred meters above the ground, spacious enough to accommodate hundreds of thousands. At the moment, only a few hundred seats were occupied, creating an immense sense of emptiness.
The seats inside the hall floated in the air. The lowest tier had over two hundred seats, for ordinary representatives. The next tier had only fifty-odd seats, arranged in a circle, already appearing quite distant from each other. These were for senior representatives.
Above that, there were fewer than ten seats, distinguished by platforms several meters square at their bases. The Speaker and the leaders of the Evernight Parliament would sit on this tier. The Speaker’s seat was only slightly larger in its base platform compared to the other leaders.
But this was not the highest point. Above the leaders, seven floating peaks hovered, each inscribed with corresponding totemic symbols. These seven peaks represented the seven founding races of the Evernight Parliament, but now, only four peaks had seats at their summits, the other three being empty.
Not all the seats in the hall were occupied, with only about half being filled. At the Speaker and leader’s tier, a few of the occupants were not in their true form but projections.
As Lilith entered the Eternal Great Hall, all the representatives stood, placing their hands over their chests, bowing their heads in reverence.
Without any apparent action, Lilith rose gracefully, directly ascending to one of the thrones on the seven peaks, her gaze sweeping over the entire hall before she slowly sat down.
