Chapter 857: New Race, New Profession

After the news of Nie Yan entering the Crime Zone Canyon spread, many players rushed into the canyon. They came from various factions, but they shared one common goal: Nie Yan, known as “Nie Yan the Flame”!

Most of these individuals were thieves; some aimed to target Nie Yan himself, while others sought to uncover the purpose of his journey.

Unaware of the external commotion, Nie Yan proceeded directly toward the location of the War God Kro.

While the War God Kro was sleeping, he keenly sensed something and immediately awoke, turning his gaze toward Nie Yan. Although he appeared somewhat lethargic, his eyes remained sharp and piercing.

“Young man, you’ve arrived,” the War God Kro said with a slight smile. “I’ve sensed that you’ve lifted the seal on Zainnard’s Sword.”

“Yes, Mr. Kro. You will regain your freedom,” Nie Yan replied, taking out Zainnard’s Sword from his backpack. Blue flames roared and radiated intense heat, overpowering even the glow of molten lava.

“What pure energy!” The War God Kro admired the Zainnard’s Sword in Nie Yan’s hands.

“But isn’t this the evil sword once wielded by the Dragon King Zainnard?” Nie Yan asked curiously.

“It’s merely a weapon. As a weapon, it holds no inherent guilt. Weapons are neither evil nor righteous; it’s the wielder that determines their nature,” the War God Kro explained calmly.

Nie Yan could sense that the War God Kro was indeed a wise figure. Trapped here for so long, he resembled a divine weapon that had hidden its sharpness. Though rusted, once unsheathed, his power remained unstoppable.

Nie Yan approached the base of the War God Kro, looked up, and swung his sword at the chains binding Kro.

With sharp clangs, one chain after another snapped into two.

With a mighty roar, the chains binding Kro flew apart. His bulging muscles trembled as he leaped down from the cross, finally regaining his freedom. Unable to contain his excitement, the War God Kro let out a thunderous, sky-piercing roar.

The entire space trembled violently, as if it were about to collapse.

The War God Kro’s roar was filled with penetrating and explosive force, yet it caused no harm to Nie Yan nearby. Clearly, Kro had restrained himself; otherwise, such heavy sound waves would have sent Nie Yan coughing up blood.

The hundreds of thieves who had followed Nie Yan into Zainnard’s tomb were scattered throughout the area. Feeling the tremors beneath their feet, they looked around in confusion, unsure of what was happening. But then, a powerful, resonant roar swept through the area like a hammer striking their chests. The players were sent flying backward, crashing to the ground with damage numbers of several thousand floating above their heads, nearly killing them instantly.

What kind of sound was that? It was terrifying!

After a while, the War God Kro finally calmed down.

“Please forgive me; I’ve been locked here for far too long,” Kro apologized to Nie Yan.

“I understand,” Nie Yan nodded. He was somewhat surprised to see complex emotions on the War God Kro’s face. He was certain that Kro possessed greater wisdom than any other NPC he had previously encountered. The NPCs he had met before had relatively rigid personalities, while Kro almost exhibited human-like intelligence. The higher the level and the stronger the power of an NPC, the more advanced their thinking ability appeared to be—a rule that clearly applied to the War God Kro as well.

After successfully rescuing the War God Kro, Nie Yan pondered how to request his help in defeating the half-demon Angud. Since he had just saved Kro’s life, there should at least be some task rewards. Making such a request, Kro would have no reason to refuse.

Kro took out two stones and said, “These are the Stones of Kro. As gratitude for your rescue, you may ask me to assist you with two tasks. Before these two tasks are completed, simply crush one of the Stones of Kro, and I will appear before you. However, I have two principles: first, I must abide by divine principles, not interfere in any human wars, and not take any life without cause unless that life endangers yours and you are powerless to change it. Second, I cannot assist you in completing any tasks. A true hero must face and overcome all hardships in the trials ahead.”

After thanking Kro, Nie Yan carefully accepted the two stones and placed them into his backpack. Considering Kro’s words, Nie Yan realized there was still a way for Kro to help him defeat the half-demon Angud, and a flicker of excitement passed through his mind.

As he contemplated how to create an opportunity for the War God Kro to intervene, a system notification rang out.

System Announcement: The War God Kro has regained his freedom. The radiance of the War God will spread across the world. The Warrior Intensive Training Mission is now active. The new race-class, the Barbarian Berserker, is now available.

This system announcement stunned Nie Yan. A new race-class, the Barbarian Berserker?

Throughout history, the might of barbarians had been recorded countless times in historical texts. In terms of racial talent, every barbarian was undoubtedly a natural warrior. The introduction of this new race-class would bring significant changes, and all players would soon encounter a new wave of players from these new classes.

Nie Yan immediately checked all available information regarding the Barbarian Berserker. All Lawful Good warriors had the opportunity to switch to the Barbarian Berserker class by visiting the Barbarian Tribe, applying for the task from the tribal elder, and completing a series of quests. However, there was one strict requirement for this class change: upon rebirth, their level would reset to zero, forcing them to start anew—an idea most players would find difficult to accept. Nevertheless, the might of the Barbarian Berserker was unquestionable. With each level gained, they would receive greater attack and defense bonuses compared to ordinary human or orc warriors. The higher their level, the stronger their combat power would become.

The announcement of the new race-class, the Barbarian Berserker, sent shockwaves throughout the Light Faction. For warrior players, this was undoubtedly great news. Both the Warrior Intensive Training Task and the Barbarian Berserker class transformation were highly appealing. Immediately after the system announcement, many warrior players were already eager to try it out.

Nie Yan never expected that rescuing the War God Kro would trigger an entirely new storyline. Whether this new development was beneficial or not, even he couldn’t yet determine.
