Chapter 169: The Universe Within the Thatched Hut (1)

All the hidden weapons transformed from the protective light screens of the Purple Melody Sage struck Mo Changxing’s defensive barrier.

The situation had completely reversed. Now, the Purple Melody Sage was on the offensive, while Mo Changxing had become the defender.

Watching the dense, rain-like barrage of materialized hidden weapons entangled with his own power outside the barrier, Mo Changxing showed no trace of panic. With his hands forming a seal, he conjured another smaller protective barrier inside the existing one.

As the smaller barrier took shape, the outermost one instantly shattered like torn paper, scattering and drifting through the air.

The scattered fragments of light, much like the Purple Melody Sage’s shattered barrier earlier, transformed in the blink of an eye into countless hidden weapons, surging toward the Purple Melody Sage like a tidal wave!

Returning the favor in kind!

“Good move, kid!”

A flicker of admiration flashed in the Purple Melody Sage’s eyes. With a wave of his hand, he drew a circle in the air, which, like a black hole appearing out of nowhere in the universe, sucked in all the hidden weapons.

“Too bad! You’re still a bit short of my level!” After absorbing all the hidden weapons, the Purple Melody Sage laughed triumphantly. But then, feeling his words might have been too modest, he quickly added, “No, no, no—you’re not just a bit behind your master, you’re way behind!!!”

Mo Changxing landed gently on his feet, ignoring the Purple Melody Sage’s narcissistic demeanor and words. He walked over to Yun Qingxue with a smile in his eyes and said, “From now on, if anyone dares to bully you, just tell me!”

Yun Qingxue responded with a quiet, composed smile.

From the night before last when Mo Changxing appeared, to him taking her to Chuxia Mountain and then to Luoyun Mountain, everything had happened far too suddenly.

She had known Mo Changxing for less than three days, yet here he was, acting as if he intended to protect her. Yun Qingxue truly couldn’t make sense of it.

What were his motives? Was this really Luoyun Mountain? Could she trust these people?

“Little Mistress, the outside world is treacherous. Remember: trust others three parts, guard against them seven!”

“Qingxue, you saved my life. I will never betray you!”

“Qingxue, I, Zhou Dao, swear to the heavens—I will never betray you, nor will I ever reveal your secret…”

“Qingxue, I love Chuchu. I can’t live without her… Only you can save her… After you’re gone, Chuchu and I will choose the best dragon’s lair for your grave. May you be reborn into a better life!”

The deepest wounds from those people and those events had built towering walls in Yun Qingxue’s heart.

For Mo Changxing, who had suddenly appeared by her side, the self-proclaimed master Purple Melody Sage, and even Daise, she could not muster even a shred of trust.

Mo Changxing’s words—”From now on, if anyone dares to bully you, just tell me!”—might have moved another girl.

But Yun Qingxue didn’t even trust him, let alone feel touched.

So, in response to his promise of protection, she merely offered a faint smile.

Mo Changxing smiled back. Time would reveal his sincerity. He believed that one day, he would earn Yun Qingxue’s trust—and that day wouldn’t be too far away.

Yet, for some reason, the thought of needing someone else to vouch for his innocence to Qingxue left him inexplicably unsettled.

“Disciple Qingxue!” The Purple Melody Sage approached with a shameless grin. “Your master keeps his word. Now that you’ve joined my sect, I’ll take you inside to see the treasures!”

With that, he shoved Mo Changxing aside without hesitation, grabbed Yun Qingxue’s hand, and flew with her to the door of the thatched hut.

Standing before the hut, the Purple Melody Sage pushed open the rickety, decaying wooden door, which creaked ominously.

*Creak—*

The door swung open easily. The Purple Melody Sage led Yun Qingxue inside.

The interior was dim, with sunlight streaming through the small window and casting a faint patch of light on the floor.

The hut was bare except for a single table, a chair, and four empty walls.

Yun Qingxue and the Purple Melody Sage stood near the entrance, side by side, gazing at the hollow space.

“Disciple, follow my steps closely. Three steps forward, and you’ll enter the formation I personally set up!” the Purple Melody Sage instructed before taking three strides ahead.

Yun Qingxue followed step by step. “Watch carefully. You’ll need to do this yourself when you come alone in the future.”

After another reminder, the Purple Melody Sage took a step diagonally to the left—and the moment his foot landed, he vanished, leaving Yun Qingxue alone in the hut.

Since her transmigration, Yun Qingxue had witnessed too many supernatural phenomena to be surprised by the Purple Melody Sage’s sudden disappearance.

Whether willing or not, since her so-called master had dragged her here, she might as well follow him inside and see for herself.

Making up her mind, Yun Qingxue stepped onto the spot where the Purple Melody Sage had stood and took the same diagonal step to the left.

The morning sun filtered through the window as the small hut’s door slammed shut on its own. The two who had been inside moments earlier had vanished without a trace.
