Chapter 173: Delivering Charcoal in the Snow, Mo Changxing

In the tranquil space, apart from the endless sea of books, it was so quiet that one could even hear their own shallow breathing.

Yun Qingxue let out a faint sigh and idly picked up a celestial book to flip through.

The obscure, incomprehensible characters were truly headache-inducing. But trapped in such a place, the only companions she had were these books.

She stared intently at the book in her hand, focusing on the unfamiliar script.

After what felt like an eternity, the utterly indecipherable words began to make Yun Qingxue’s mind wander.

Suddenly, the characters on the page seemed to shift, transforming into ones she recognized.

Yun Qingxue blinked in disbelief, but when she looked again, the text remained as cryptic and arcane as before.

Was it a hallucination? She fixed her gaze on the book in her hands. A long while passed, yet the words showed no further changes.

“Growl~” Her empty stomach protested again.

It must be nearly noon now. How she regretted not finding a chance to stash some food in the storage bracelet Jin Lin had given her! Yun Qingxue rubbed her rumbling belly and muttered, “So hungry~”

“Little Junior Sister.” Mo Changxing’s voice suddenly rang out. Along with his voice came an enticing aroma.

Yun Qingxue glanced toward the direction where her cheap master had left earlier, but the entrance was empty. She sniffed the air—the delicious scent was definitely real.

“Mo Changxing?” Yun Qingxue tentatively called out.

“Little Junior Sister.” Mo Changxing’s voice, laced with amusement, sounded again.

Yun Qingxue frowned. The entrance was still deserted, and Mo Changxing’s voice seemed to be coming from… behind her!

She whirled around.

“Little Junior Sister, are you hungry?” Mo Changxing smiled, holding up an oil-paper package. Yun Qingxue was certain the mouthwatering aroma was emanating from it.

“Growl~” Before she could speak, her empty stomach answered Mo Changxing’s question for her.

Hungry! Starving!!!

Yun Qingxue’s face flushed with embarrassment, her fair and bright complexion tinged with pink.

The amusement in Mo Changxing’s eyes deepened, though his expression remained calm and gentle. He placed the oil-paper package on the desk and began unwrapping the twine with his slender fingers. “I went out of my way to buy you a roast chicken. It’s delicious—eat it while it’s hot.”

The savory scent of the chicken made Yun Qingxue swallow discreetly. She approached the desk slowly and gazed at the golden-brown, fragrant roast chicken laid bare on the oiled paper, but she didn’t immediately dig in.

“Would you like to share?” she asked politely.

Mo Changxing’s eyes sparkled even brighter. Despite her obvious hunger, Yun Qingxue was still trying to maintain a composed and refined demeanor. It was utterly adorable and endearing.

“I haven’t eaten either,” Mo Changxing found himself answering, almost as if compelled.

Given his cultivation level, he no longer needed mortal sustenance. But looking at her, he suddenly wanted to share a meal with her. A thousand years—he had missed a thousand years of her life.

During that time, he had been busy scheming with his father to guard against the celestial threat, while she… had endured countless hardships.

All because of that person!

Mo Changxing’s hand clenched beneath his sleeve as a surge of emotion rose in his chest.

“Let’s eat together, then.” Yun Qingxue tore off a drumstick and handed it to Mo Changxing.

Snapping out of his thoughts, Mo Changxing accepted it with a smile and watched as she picked up the other drumstick and began eating slowly.

With only a simple table and chair in the room, Yun Qingxue and Mo Changxing simply sat on the floor.

At this moment, watching the girl quietly eating before him, Mo Changxing felt an overwhelming sense of peace and contentment in the quiet space shared only by the two of them.

If time could freeze forever in this moment, he would be content just to watch her like this.

But the outside world remained chaotic, and their identities destined them to never live in such tranquil times.

Still, before she truly grew stronger, he would never allow those disturbances to reach her again.

Becoming powerful was a transformation she had to complete!

Yun Qingxue ate her drumstick quietly and contentedly.

With her stomach no longer protesting thanks to the delicious food, her mind suddenly sparked with an important realization.

“Senior Brother, how did you get in here? Is there another entrance besides the one over there?”

She swallowed her food and asked, puzzled.

Mo Changxing pointed upward with one finger. “I came down from the ceiling.”

Yun Qingxue looked up. The walls around her were lined with books, and the ceiling was at least thirty meters above the ground.

And…

“Is there a formation on the ceiling too?” she asked, then immediately chided herself internally.

Her cheap master had already set up illusions with the dilapidated hut and laid formations within it—naturally, this entire space was filled with arrays! What a redundant question!

Mo Changxing’s beautiful eyes curved into crescents as he smiled. “No, that old man didn’t set up any formations on the ceiling.”
