Chapter 190: Absorbing Spirit and Refining Essence – Avoiding Grains!

“Damn it!” Yun Sisi watched as her full-powered strike vanished without a trace, failing to leave even a scratch on the barrier, and couldn’t help but curse under her breath.

If she couldn’t break the barrier, and if Changxing-gege refused to change his mind, was she really going to be trapped in this desolate place forever?!

She refused to believe it! With her divine physique and cultivation at the Great Demon stage, how could she fail to break such a measly barrier?

Gathering her spiritual energy once more in her palm, Yun Sisi struck the barrier with all her might again.

Yet, just like before, the strike only caused a brief ripple before disappearing without a trace…

“Young Master, this subordinate doesn’t understand. Earlier, you clearly had the means to subdue Little Mistress Sisi—why did you give up in the end?”

Yue Jian had been following Mo Changxing all this way and finally couldn’t hold back his question.

Little Mistress Sisi had threatened suicide to stop the Young Master from returning to the demon realm. With the Young Master’s abilities, he could have easily knocked her unconscious before she harmed herself and sent her away! Moreover… Yue Jian didn’t believe the Young Master couldn’t see that Sisi’s suicide threat was nothing more than empty words! What shocked him was that the Young Master had actually yielded!

Though the Young Master had trapped Sisi in a barrier, he had ultimately stopped insisting on sending her back to the demon realm. Yue Jian couldn’t fathom why the Young Master had compromised!

“Heh.” Mo Changxing let out a deep, knowing chuckle. “The world knows just how much the Demon Lord dotes on his only daughter, Yun Sisi. And I, having been raised under his care since childhood—if I were to forcefully subdue Yun Sisi in front of so many people and send her back to the demon realm, what do you think the world would say? Would the Demon Lord be compelled to punish me for the sake of his ‘beloved daughter’?”

“This subordinate understands now.” Yue Jian suddenly realized. If the Young Master had ignored Sisi’s suicide threat and forcibly sent her back, there would only be two outcomes.

First, the Young Master would be branded as ungrateful and cruel, mistreating the daughter of his benefactor.

Second, it might lead people to believe that the reason the Young Master dared to act against Sisi was because she wasn’t as favored by the Demon Lord as the rumors claimed!

Either of these outcomes, if spread, would be detrimental to their future plans.

“But Young Master, if Little Mistress Sisi refuses to return to the demon realm, will you just keep her trapped in that barrier indefinitely? That’s hardly a long-term solution!” Yue Jian frowned.

“For now, the most important thing is to prevent her from meeting Qingxue. Otherwise… I fear Qingxue might suffer. As for sending her back to the demon realm, we’ll have to trouble the Demon Lord to come retrieve her himself. After all, she is his daughter. If the Demon Lord is worried about her safety outside and personally brings her home, no one would question it.” Mo Changxing’s eyes turned cold.

Yue Jian nodded. “But the Demon Lord only departed for Mingluo Cliff yesterday to enter seclusion for cultivation. It may be some time before he emerges.”

The scent of ink lingered in the air.

Yun Qingxue sat at the desk, carefully flipping through the pages of a book.

Soft footsteps approached, followed by a large stack of books being placed on the desk before her.

“Disciple.”

After setting down the books, Purple Song Sage clapped his hands lightly, his deep, crystalline eyes gleaming with amusement as he watched Yun Qingxue engrossed in her reading.

Yun Qingxue looked up at him. “Does Master have any instructions?”

Purple Song Sage patted the stack of books he had brought. “These are all carefully selected for you—perfect for your current stage of learning.”

“Thank you, Master.” Yun Qingxue gave a rare, sweet smile.

Purple Song Sage waved a hand. “Don’t thank me yet. I have high expectations for you! You were born with a divine physique, and though you never cultivated before, you possess gifts beyond ordinary mortals. Now, with the combined two thousand years of cultivation from me and that old fool Yun Ye, starting today, I will train you rigorously!”

“Yes!” Yun Qingxue nodded. Though she didn’t know what “rigorous training” entailed, she had sought a master precisely to become strong—no longer a weakling at others’ mercy.

There was no such thing as a free meal in this world. If she wanted power, hardship was inevitable.

“First, starting today, you will no longer eat. Mundane food is detrimental to your cultivation. Second, you must master every book here and pass my examinations before you can leave this place!” Purple Song Sage laid out his plan.

Yun Qingxue froze. She had no issue with studying the books, but not eating…

“Master, though I have a divine physique, I never properly cultivated growing up, so my body is no different from a mortal’s! If I don’t eat, and I don’t yet know how to absorb spiritual energy, won’t I starve to death before I even master any spells?”

“Not knowing how to absorb spiritual energy is no problem!” Purple Song Sage frowned, pulling a book from the stack and tossing it in front of her. “This one teaches you how to draw in the world’s essence. Once you learn it, you won’t need mortal food anymore!”
