Chapter 10: The Quasi-Warrior Evaluation

“Mom, Dad, I’m heading to the ‘Limit Dojo’ in the city center. I probably won’t come back for lunch today,” Luo Feng stood up after finishing a large bowl of porridge and three flatbreads. “Wait for my good news today. As soon as I pass the test, I’ll call you immediately.”

Gong Xinlan smiled and glanced at Luo Hongguo. “Hongguo, did you hear that? You better carry your phone with you. Don’t let your son be unable to reach you when the time comes.”

“I’ll definitely have my phone with me,” Luo Hongguo chuckled.

“Alright, I’m off then.”

Luo Feng winked at his younger brother Luo Hua, who grinned and gave him a thumbs-up.

Early in the morning, Luo Feng left the South Bank community and took subway line 11 to ‘Zhong’an Road Station,’ then transferred to line 1, arriving at the central area of Yangzhou City. After exiting the subway station, he walked for another ten minutes before finally reaching the headquarters of the Limit Dojo in Yangzhou City—the Limit Dojo.

He had left home just after six o’clock. By the time Luo Feng reached his destination, it was nearly eight in the morning.

“Is this the legendary Mingyue Community?” Standing outside the quiet community’s grand entrance, Luo Feng saw that the community was named ‘Mingyue Community,’ and the Limit Dojo was located right inside it.

“Sir, this is Mingyue Community. Please don’t approach.”

At the entrance stood six soldiers dressed in military uniforms, armed with real guns. Just by looking at their uniforms, one could tell—they were not part of the police force but belonged to the military. One of the soldiers called out to Luo Feng, “Sir, please step back. If you cross the yellow line, we have the authority to shoot you on the spot!”

“Just like the rumors,” Luo Feng sighed inwardly.

Mingyue Community was the Limit Dojo’s main base in Yangzhou City!

Here, not only was the Limit Dojo located, but it was also where the families of the warriors under the Limit Dojo resided.

“They say that the people living inside are all warriors and their families! Even the police don’t have the authority to enter without permission,” Luo Feng thought in amazement.

“Excuse me,” Luo Feng announced at the gated entrance of the residential complex, his voice carrying the weight of disciplined training. “I am Luo Feng, an elite disciple of the Limit Dojo. I’ve come today to undertake the Quasi-Warrior trial.” The sacred halls of the Limit Dojo conducted their initiation rites for aspiring warriors on the first dawn of each lunar cycle.

“Oh?”

An aged man with silvered locks emerged from the guard’s resting quarters adjacent to the residential district. Clutched in his weathered hands was a sleek handheld terminal. “Ah, young one, you’ve arrived with the dawn’s breath. The clock’s hands have yet to kiss the eighth hour,” he remarked, his voice carrying the weight of decades. “To undertake the Novice Warrior trials at such tender years speaks volumes of your mettle. The stars whisper of a luminous path before you. Now then, present your identification and elite scholar’s credential for the rites of verification.”

Luo Feng handed over his ID and student card.

Beep!

The ID and advanced student card were both swiped on the handheld computer, and information appeared on the screen one after another.

“Eighteen years old?” The silver-haired elder stared at Luo Feng in amazement, a kindly smile softening his aged face. “Daring to challenge the Warrior Candidate Exam at such a youthful age. Magnificent. May the winds of destiny blow favorably upon you this day.”

“Thank you, sir,” Luo Feng replied politely.

“Let him in,” the elderly man waved his hand.

Instantly, the electric gate of the community opened automatically. A soldier holding an assault rifle stepped forward and walked beside Luo Feng. “Sir, I will escort you to the Limit Dojo. Please do not wander around after entering the community! You only have permission to enter the Limit Dojo. Entering the residential area for warrior families is strictly prohibited. If you violate the rules, even if I don’t take action, the brothers patrolling within the community will.”

“Understood,” Luo Feng smiled and nodded, secretly feeling astonished.

The nation and the Limit Dojo were indeed in a cooperative relationship. At least, the core area of the Limit Dojo was under strict protection.

“Wow, row after row of standalone villas,” Luo Feng observed. Apart from the towering Limit Dojo at the center of the community, there were neatly arranged standalone villas. Between the villas were rock gardens, ponds, and grassy areas.

At the center of Mingyue Community, inside the Limit Dojo, the soldier returned after Luo Feng entered the lobby.

“Sir, are you here for the Warrior Candidate exam?” A sweet-faced young girl smiled in the grand hall. “Please have a seat over there, sir. The Prospective martial artist examination will commence at ten o’clock this morning alongside other participants.”

Luo Feng nodded and walked toward the side of the lobby. There was a small bar with a bartender and a barista.

“Hmm?” Luo Feng glanced around. There were already three people sitting in the small bar.

Two of them were chatting, while another sat silently on a different sofa.

“Look, those villas over there are the benefits for warriors who join the Limit Dojo,” an excited young man in white clothes said. “Once you become a warrior and join the Limit Dojo, you’ll be assigned one of these villas for free. And then you can live here… wow, look at this environment, how comfortable it is.”

“Of course, a warrior community is different from regular communities. Look, here comes a new guy,” the three noticed Luo Feng. Luo Feng gave them a slight nod and sat on a nearby sofa.

Since they didn’t know each other, they didn’t talk.

As time passed, three more people arrived. Luo Feng didn’t recognize these three either, but judging from their appearances, they were all older, likely over thirty, and possibly even someone over forty.

“Ha, Luo Feng!” a loud voice rang out.

Luo Feng was startled and spun around. A gaunt man with a vicious scar across his face approached. “You here for the Warrior Candidate trials as well?”

“Brother Yang?” Luo Feng quickly stood up to greet him.

“It was kind of embarrassing. Last month, I took the test once. Unfortunately, my speed was only 24.9 meters per second. Just a little short, I didn’t pass!” Yang Wu said helplessly. In fact, he had already passed the requirements in terms of punch strength and nerve reaction speed. His weakness was his speed.

However, since the beginning of this year, Yang Wu had gradually improved his speed. The difference between 24.9 meters and 25 meters wasn’t significant. With a good state, his score could reach 25 meters.

“I believe Brother Yang will definitely pass this time,” Luo Feng smiled.

“This Yang guy has taken the test several times but hasn’t passed. I think this time is also uncertain,” a loud voice came from the side.

Luo Feng looked over. The speaker was a muscular man with a thick beard. Yang Wu immediately glared at him. “Mr. Tong, you’re talking about me, but you yourself failed the test twice. I think your nerve reaction speed still needs another two or three years of hard training.”

“Be quiet,” a cold voice came from the center of the lobby.

In a heartbeat, all eight figures turned their heads in flawless synchronization. A middle-aged man draped in billowing martial robes swept his gaze across them. “Come,” he commanded, “follow me upstairs. The Prospective martial artist evaluation commences now.” His voice carried an edge of solemnity as he added, “Remember—comport yourselves with dignity once we ascend. Today, we are graced by the presence of a distinguished guest from Yangzhou City, personally invited by our Chief Instructor. See that none of your actions mar this occasion.”

“Yes,” everyone, including the previously arrogant bearded man, Yang Wu, and Luo Feng, respectfully responded.

“The chief instructor’s old friend?” Luo Feng couldn’t help but wonder.

It was well known that there was one Limit Dojo and twelve Limit Dojos in Yangzhou City. The heads of the district Limit Dojos were called ‘instructors,’ while the head of the headquarters Limit Dojo was known as the ‘Chief Instructor.’

After entering the elevator, the middle-aged man in loose sportswear pressed the ‘6’ button.

Ding! The elevator reached the sixth floor.

Whoosh!

The elevator door opened, revealing a massive martial arts hall. Inside the hall were gathered more than a dozen people, including Luo Feng’s familiar instructor, ‘Jiang Nian.’

“People have arrived. Stop chatting,” an older man with long, loose hair spoke up. More than a dozen people in the martial arts hall turned their heads to look at the eight people, including Luo Feng. Under the gaze of these dozen individuals, the eight of them felt a bit nervous. They knew that those who usually appeared in the Limit Dojo, apart from the service staff, were warriors.

In other words, these dozen people were all warriors! After all, this was the Limit Dojo’s main base in the entire Yangzhou City.

“Prepare for the test,” the older man with loose long hair ordered.

Luo Feng had seen this older man with loose long hair on the internet before. He was the head of the Limit Dojo, the Chief Instructor ‘Wu Tong’ of Yangzhou City.

“One by one, hand me your ID first,” the warrior who had led Luo Feng and the other seven upstairs took their IDs and directly handed them to Chief Instructor Wu Tong, smiling. “Chief, there are quite a few people today. There are eight of them!”

“Hmm,” Wu Tong casually took one ID and swiped it on the instrument beside him.

Beep!

A crystal-clear, almost transparent screen popped up on the instrument, displaying a large amount of personal information.

“The first one is Tong Guan,” Chief Instructor said indifferently. “Proceed with the punch force test. You people from the military also come to our Limit Dojo for the test. Interesting.”

Luo Feng, who was standing nearby, couldn’t help but smile slightly. The Limit Dojo was founded by the world’s strongest warrior, with dojos spread across the globe. The Limit Dojo’s tests were credible and highly valued. The results were recognized in various countries and regions around the world.

Even the military and some family-based martial arts inheritors preferred to take the Limit Dojo’s tests.

“Proceed with the punch force test,” Chief Instructor ordered.

“Yes.”

The bearded man immediately stepped forward. He suddenly widened his eyes, blocked his face with his left hand, and swung his right fist in an arc, striking the giant punching target. The target only slightly trembled. The punch force testing machine immediately displayed a number—’986kg.’

“Passed. Next, Luo Feng.” Chief Instructor casually swiped the second ID on the instrument and glanced at the detailed records. He couldn’t help but express surprise. “Hmm, eighteen years old? Old Jiang, this is from your Yian District, right? When did you come up with such a talented young man?”

“Hahaha,” Jiang Nian, the nearby instructor, couldn’t help but laugh joyfully and proudly.

“Whether he has real ability remains to be seen,” one of the dozen or so warriors nearby, an extremely fat old man, mocked with a grin. “He might just be here to see the world and doesn’t have much strength.”

Jiang Nian glanced at him. “What? Jealous? Your Beiyou District doesn’t have such a genius, right? Luo Feng, show them the strength of our Yian District students.”

“Yes, instructor,” Luo Feng loudly responded, stepping forward and walking toward the punch force testing machine.
