Chapter 68: Guo Hai

The mournful music echoed throughout the Hero Hall Funeral Home, with high-ranking government officials, military generals, and even War God-level warriors offering their condolences one after another. The national television network was carefully recording the entire event, with reporters narrating the scene before the cameras. Soon it was Luo Feng’s turn.

Following the flow of people, the five members of the Fire Hammer Squad soon entered the funeral home.

Inside the mourning hall, only a massive photograph was displayed.

“Just a photograph, not even a body remains,” Luo Feng sighed inwardly. Once one perished in the endless tide of rats, indeed, not even bones would remain! Amidst the somber music, Luo Feng and the others solemnly bowed three times. Kneeling silently nearby were the wife and children of the War God, Lian Luo.

Soon after, Luo Feng and his companions left the hall.

Outside the hall, the atmosphere was noticeably lighter, no longer as oppressive as inside.

“Senior Lu Gang was just unlucky,” Gao Feng shook his head in lament. “He happened to fall right into the center of the rat tide. And the leader of that endless horde must have specifically targeted Lu Gang, knowing he was among the greatest human warriors, and thus spared no cost to kill him! Once caught in the swarm, there’s no escaping.”

Luo Feng murmured, “I heard the satellite footage showed that during his struggle, dozens of high-rise buildings collapsed, and over a million rat beasts were killed. Just imagining that scene is terrifying.”

Before this, he and Wan Dong had only been chased by a small wave of a few ten thousand rats.

And even among that group, there were no Beast Captain-level creatures; otherwise, how could they have failed to catch up with Wan Dong and the others? Even such a small group had made Luo Feng feel immense pressure. Thinking of the scene of being besieged by hundreds of millions of rat beasts, he couldn’t help but shudder! For a War God-level warrior to kill over a million rat beasts in a short time—how formidable!

“If Senior Lu Gang had been more cautious at first and avoided the core of the rat tide, he wouldn’t have died,” Gao Feng sighed.

Outside the funeral home, the air was bitterly cold. The streets were filled with figures from the martial circles, politics, military, and influential families and business conglomerates.

“Luo Feng,” a voice called out.

Luo Feng turned his head and saw, not far away, Xu Xin dressed entirely in black. This outfit gave her a colder aura.

“Xu Xin, you didn’t have class today?” Luo Feng asked.

“Today is Saturday. I just came along with my family,” Xu Xin smiled.

Luo Feng was momentarily taken aback, then chuckled self-deprecatingly, “Saturday, uh… Well, not going to school, I’ve lost track of the days.” Becoming a warrior really made the days of the week irrelevant. Back when he was a student, he remembered weekends so clearly.

“Luo Feng is a warrior now. He’s different from the rest of us classmates,” Xu Xin teased.

The two stood by the side of the street, chatting casually.

Meanwhile, not far away, Xu Gang was conversing with a middle-aged woman. But when his gaze fell upon Luo Feng and Xu Xin in the distance, his brows slightly furrowed. He turned apologetically to the woman beside him, saying, “Chairwoman Zhang, I have something urgent to attend to. Let’s continue discussing the profit-sharing later.”

The middle-aged woman smiled and nodded.

Xu Gang walked a short distance away, his eyes still fixed on Luo Feng and Xu Xin in the distance. With his sharp vision, he could clearly see their expressions and gestures. It was obvious the two were enjoying their conversation, which only darkened Xu Gang’s mood further. “My sister has always been proud and rarely interacts with male peers. How come she’s getting along so well with Luo Feng?”

Xu Xin had already reached the legal age for marriage, so Xu Gang was especially attentive to her romantic life.

No matter what… he held a very unfavorable view of Luo Feng.

“A warrior whose life could end any day dares to get close to my sister? The deeper she gets involved, the more pain she’ll suffer in the future!” Xu Gang thought angrily. “Luo Feng, I already hinted to him last time. If he had any sense, he should have kept his distance from my sister. What an ungrateful fool!”

Clearly furious, Xu Gang could do little but stew in his anger.

He wouldn’t foolishly charge forward directly.

“Hmm?” Xu Gang suddenly noticed someone nearby and a thought struck him. “Let Luo Feng suffer a little, and he’ll know to back off!”

With this thought, Xu Gang strode toward the left.

“Master Xu,” a young man with a shaved head but a handsome face greeted with a smile.

“Guo Hai,” Xu Gang smiled as he approached. “Didn’t expect to see you here. I thought you were still in the wilderness area.”

“Senior Lu Gang’s memorial is a major event. How could I not come?” The bald, handsome youth glanced toward the funeral hall and sighed. “Back then, I also received guidance from Senior Lu Gang. I never imagined such a powerful warrior would meet such an end…”

Xu Gang sensed that Guo Hai was genuinely saddened and inwardly shook his head. “Guo Hai and War God Lu Gang weren’t that close. He’s just putting on a show.”

As a businessman, he couldn’t possibly understand the deep camaraderie between warriors.

“Guo Hai, my sister is here today,” Xu Gang smiled.

“Xu Xin?” Guo Hai’s heart stirred. “Where?”

Xu Gang gave a bitter smile and subtly gestured with his eyes. “There, talking with a young warrior.”

Guo Hai looked in the distance and saw Luo Feng and Xu Xin. His brows slightly furrowed. “From what I know, Miss Xu Xin rarely converses with warriors. This young warrior must be quite special to her.”

Though he had feelings for Xu Xin, Guo Hai wasn’t so self-centered as to expect her to reciprocate.

“He is special,” Xu Gang shook his head. “They used to be classmates. My sister seems to have a good impression of this kid; otherwise, she wouldn’t be talking to him so much!”

Guo Hai nodded. It was indeed rare for Xu Xin to speak so much with a young man.

Though he tried to suppress it, a tinge of jealousy still rose in Guo Hai.

“This kid, I warned him once before to stay away from my sister. But now it seems he has his eyes on her!” Xu Gang glanced at Guo Hai. “He doesn’t even consider his own status. A mere Warrior-class martial artist, who could die any day in the wilderness. Daring to pursue my sister! What a frog dreaming of swan meat!”

Guo Hai’s eyebrows lifted slightly, a faint sense of triumph stirring in his heart.

It was only natural for a young man to feel this way. Compared to Luo Feng, Guo Hai had already reached the Intermediate War Captain level—and he was only twenty-one.

“Xu Gang, you’re right. A Warrior-class martial artist in the wilderness truly faces great danger. He could die at any moment,” Guo Hai nodded. “If that kid truly cares about Xu Xin, he shouldn’t pursue her.”

“That’s exactly what I think!” Xu Gang quickly agreed.

Guo Hai looked toward Luo Feng in the distance and asked, “By the way, what’s his name?”

“His name is Luo Feng. He only recently became a warrior,” Xu Gang replied.

“Luo Feng?” Guo Hai’s eyebrows furrowed. “The Madman?”

Xu Gang was momentarily stunned. “What madman?”

“The Madman is a nickname. Only those with real strength earn a nickname. Most people can’t even get one,” Guo Hai looked at Xu Gang and frowned. “Luo Feng is already somewhat famous in the martial circles. You underestimated him earlier. Though he only became a warrior recently, in just two short months, he’s already killed over ten thousand Beast Soldier-level creatures, almost all of them high-tier. From my estimation, he should already be at the Beginner War Captain level!”

“Killed over ten thousand monsters? In two months?” Xu Gang blinked in disbelief.

“And you’re saying he’s already at the Beginner War Captain level? An eighteen-year-old Beginner War Captain?” Xu Gang couldn’t help but exclaim.

Guo Hai nodded.

Xu Gang’s eyes widened as he turned toward the distant Luo Feng, who was still happily chatting with Xu Xin. He muttered in frustration, “Damn, this kid’s been playing possum all along, making a fool of me! Never thought he was actually someone notable!” An eighteen-year-old Beginner War Captain, compared to a twenty-one-year-old Intermediate War Captain, might actually have greater potential.

Xu Gang’s mindset shifted slightly.

“Didn’t expect the Madman to like Xu Xin too,” Guo Hai smiled faintly. “Interesting, very interesting!”

“His name is Luo Feng, but he’s called the Madman… this nickname.”

Xu Gang was still stunned. “Killing over ten thousand monsters in just two months! Now that’s truly mad!”
