Chapter 77: Arranging the Scene

Luo Feng quickly rushed down the stairs from the sixth floor to the first floor, arriving at the back exit of the hotel.

“Hmm?” Luo Feng glanced around.

“There aren’t any large groups of monsters nearby. This is troublesome,” Luo Feng frowned. He could clearly see a few monsters scattered around, but this number was far too low to meet his plan’s requirements. After all, he needed to convince the other seven members of Thunder Squad that Zhang Zehu and Li Xiao had been killed by monsters.

Luo Feng then sprinted through the alleyways, and upon exiting, he immediately spotted a massive herd of one-horned wild boars nearby—there were at least hundreds of them. Any ordinary warrior would flee at the sight of such a group, but Luo Feng instead smiled slightly.

“These are perfect,” Luo Feng quickly approached.

“Roar~~”

Many one-horned wild boars fixed their eyes on this human warrior. From within the herd came a furious roar—this was the leader of the herd! Immediately, the entire herd of one-horned wild boars charged forward with hooves pounding the ground, rushing madly toward Luo Feng. In an instant, the entire street trembled.

Boom! Boom! The boar herd charged!

“Damn, I was planning to kill one or two monsters first to make them hate me more. Didn’t expect them to chase me so easily,” Luo Feng turned and ran, quickly turning into an alley.

Boom! Boom!

The alley was relatively wide—two one-horned boars could run side by side. Luo Feng sprinted ahead, with the herd of wild boars furiously chasing behind.

“Whoosh!” “Whoosh!”

Two dark black streaks circled from behind and flew back to Luo Feng’s side. Instantly, the two leading boars dropped dead on the spot, while another bore a massive wound. The herd’s angry roars grew even louder, clearly enraged further.

“The angrier, the better!” Luo Feng dashed like lightning along the hotel’s back entrance and up the stairs.

Boom! Boom!

One after another, the one-horned wild boars charged upward. The cement stairs were indeed of good quality—after decades, they could still withstand the wild boars’ stampede. With Luo Feng deliberately controlling his speed, he maintained a lead of about ten meters over the herd and reached his destination—the sixth floor!

On the sixth floor, under Luo Feng’s mental control, Zhang Zehu’s cleaver and Li Xiao’s machine gun floated into the air, the latter still dragging a long belt of ammunition.

The machine gun hovered before Luo Feng, as did the cleaver.

“Roar~~” The monsters rushed into the sixth floor like a flood, immediately charging furiously down the corridor toward Luo Feng.

“Come on!”

Luo Feng grinned, his eyes gleaming with a trace of madness. With his mental power, he pulled the trigger. Instantly, the massive machine gun roared to life, bullets spewing wildly and ripping into the bodies of the one-horned wild boars. However, each boar’s charge was extremely powerful—the impact of bullets couldn’t stop them at all!

“Whoosh! Whoosh!”

The floating cleaver slashed wildly, slicing through the throats of one boar after another. These out-of-control boars crashed into the corridor walls, “Boom!” The walls collapsed under the impact. With the combined power of the machine gun and cleaver, Luo Feng slaughtered dozens of one-horned wild boars in one breath, their corpses littering the corridor.

“Roar~~” With a furious roar,

A giant one-horned wild boar with silver fur and black spots appeared.

But at this moment, the cleaver and machine gun had already fallen beside the two corpses in the room. Luo Feng himself had long since leaped out of a window in a northern room!

Whoosh!

Luo Feng shot down from the sixth floor like a bolt of lightning. A surge of mental power acted upon the arm guards, generating an upward force that sharply reduced his descent. He landed lightly on the roof of a two-story building, quickly sprinting and leaping into an alley, soon disappearing from sight.

“Roar~~”

The one-horned wild boar herd, having lost dozens of their kind, rampaged angrily through the ruined hotel, searching for the detestable human warrior. They couldn’t find the human, but they discovered two fresh human corpses. The boars immediately began tearing into the flesh of the human bodies.

To the one-horned wild boars, human flesh was indeed delicious.

More and more one-horned wild boars began devouring the corpses of their fallen kin! In their harsh survival environment, monsters rarely got to eat humans, often feeding on the corpses of other monsters instead… As beasts of immense savagery, consuming the bodies of their own kind was perfectly normal.

Soon, both human and boar corpses were reduced to piles of broken bones.

Luo Feng secretly returned to his original residence and silently observed.

“About two hours later, the seven members of Thunder Squad finally returned,” Luo Feng finally saw the seven figures within his line of sight. “Makes sense. Throughout City 003, monster roars can be heard everywhere. The earlier battle happened inside the hotel… while Thunder Squad was several miles away. It’s no surprise they didn’t notice.”

At the main entrance of the hotel, the seven confident members of Thunder Squad walked back in high spirits.

“Master’s slash was truly magnificent—so precise, slicing through the throat of that ‘Swift Wolf’ beast warrior-level monster,” the fanged squad leader praised with a grin, but his smile suddenly froze.

“Hmm?”

The fanged leader looked toward the hotel’s interior, as did the other members of Thunder Squad.

“Blood!” The elderly man surnamed Liu immediately entered the hotel, followed by the others. “The smell is even stronger inside.”

“This place has seen a major battle—just one or two monsters wouldn’t produce such a strong scent of blood,” the fanged leader frowned. The middle-aged man with one eye immediately pressed the communicator on his wrist and shouted, “Huzi! Axiang! Huzi! Axiang! Both of you, respond immediately. What’s going on?”

The expressions of the four Thunder Squad members changed.

“Captain, they’re not responding,” the one-eyed man looked toward the leader.

“Maybe they didn’t notice their communicators vibrating,” the bald muscular man couldn’t help but say.

With their warrior senses, how could they possibly miss feeling the vibration?

The fanged leader’s voice turned low and heavy: “Let’s go up and check.”

“Let’s go up and check,” the elderly man Liu also spoke up. The seven of them reached the stairs, but upon seeing the marks on the steps, their expressions subtly changed. Clearly, the stairs had recently been trampled by a large group—many sections of concrete had already cracked under the pressure.

“Everyone, stay alert.”

Cautiously, the seven slowly advanced.

Even at their slow pace, it didn’t take long to reach the sixth floor.

“Whoa!” The seven members of Thunder Squad all inhaled sharply. The sixth floor was clearly the most chaotic level of the hotel—utterly devastated, with some walls of the hotel rooms already collapsed. The ground was covered in bloodstains and numerous skeletal remains, mostly belonging to monsters.

Their hearts sank. They knew… Zhang Zehu and Li Xiao were likely beyond saving.

“Look, there are bullet holes in the wall.”

“There are many spent cartridges here—probably Axiang firing to hold back the monsters. Unfortunately, there were just too many.”

Everyone quickly noticed many signs.

After a while, they all looked at the ground—torn combat uniforms, a cleaver’s handle slightly deformed from being stepped on, a completely twisted machine gun, and a small amount of human bone fragments.

“Huzi’s cleaver and Axiang’s gun.”

“These two sets of combat uniforms…”

Combat uniforms were extremely durable. Although torn by the one-horned wild boars’ bites, they were still identifiable—clearly belonging to Zhang Zehu and Li Xiao.

“How could this happen?” The bald muscular man couldn’t help but clench his teeth. “How could Axiang and Huzi be so unlucky to encounter a monster herd while in their room?”

“Let’s go downstairs!” The elderly man Liu suddenly ordered.

“Downstairs?” The one-eyed man, the bald muscular man, and Adong were all startled, then showed a trace of anger.

The fanged leader frowned and commanded, “Alright, gather Huzi and Axiang’s belongings—we’re going downstairs!” Since the leader had spoken, they naturally couldn’t refuse.

Shortly afterward, in the hotel’s first-floor lobby, the seven members of Thunder Squad stood there.

“You all should understand,” the fanged leader, “Pan Ya,” spoke solemnly, “Even if a monster herd entered the hotel, with Huzi and Axiang’s vigilance, they still had more than a 50% chance of escaping! Even if they couldn’t escape, logically, they should have contacted us through their communicators upon detecting danger!”

The other members’ expressions changed subtly, nodding involuntarily.

“Exactly,” the elderly man Liu nodded. “What’s strange is that neither of them contacted us before their deaths. That’s why I suspect someone deliberately set this up and left listening devices at the scene. That’s why I asked everyone to come downstairs to discuss.”

The Thunder Squad members couldn’t help but look at the elderly man Liu with newfound respect.

To be able to instantly judge and make decisions—truly, experience was invaluable.

“This is one possibility. Another possibility…” the elderly man Liu continued, “is that a beast warrior-level monster discovered their traces, launched a stealthy attack, and then a large group of monsters rushed in… In the chaos of an emergency, they had no chance to contact us.”

The four Thunder Squad members exchanged glances.

The mixed-race young man showed a trace of worry on his face. The elderly man Liu smiled softly and said, “Don’t worry, young master. Even if someone set this up, it wouldn’t be targeting you. A super warrior wouldn’t stoop to such methods, and a beast warrior-level opponent wouldn’t dare provoke you.”

“Senior Liu, for the young master’s safety, we should return to the base city,” the fanged leader, “Pan Ya,” spoke up.
