Chapter 341: Betrayal in the Shadows

Flying within the Inner Realm, at least there were no ferocious beasts.

The ferocious beasts in the Thunder World were specially transported in by the Cosmic Mercenary Alliance for evaluation and selection. This ‘Inner Realm’ had just been discovered, so it was naturally very primitive! Yet… this new world was even more maddening. Luo Feng and his team flew from the periphery toward the core region.

In just six days, they had encountered twenty-one ambushes!

On the first day, once.

On the second day, three times.

On the third day, twice.

On the fourth day, twice.

On the fifth day, five times.

On the sixth day, eight times.

Clearly, the closer they approached the core, the more ambushers they encountered. Fortunately, Luo Feng could detect and monitor a radius of twenty kilometers, so despite the twenty-one ambushes, Luo Feng and his team only experienced occasional moments of danger, never suffering any real defeat.

Now, it was the seventh day.

“Judging from the position of the light sphere, we are very close to the core area. We should arrive there either today or tomorrow,” Luo Feng said, looking up at the glowing orb in the sky. The orb hovered directly above the center of the Inner Realm, so heading toward it meant heading straight for the core.

“The closer we get, the more dangerous it becomes. Yesterday alone we encountered eight groups of raiders,” Thunder God dared not relax.

“Galactic Crystals—massive amounts of Galactic Crystals—can indeed drive adventurers mad,” Luo Feng sighed.

A warrior of stellar magnitude or a master of the mind could easily rule over an entire homeworld. Yet when confronted with the Galactic Crystals—forged by Sovereign Realm titans from the raw essence of the cosmos—even the mightiest would be driven to madness.

“Everyone, be careful,” Luo Feng suddenly changed expression.

“What’s wrong?” Hong, Thunder God, Aogu, and Tienanhe all turned to him.

“Three o’clock direction ahead, 19.2 kilometers away, fifty adventurers. Forty-eight of them are Stellar-Level Ninth Stage,” Luo Feng transmitted mentally. “Change direction now! Hurry!” Having spent so long in the Inner Realm, Luo Feng and his team were experienced. They immediately turned and accelerated, attempting to escape.

But they had only flown two or three kilometers when—

“Stop!” Luo Feng’s expression darkened.

From high speed to a sudden halt, Hong and Thunder God were somewhat disoriented. The tough grass below was flattened by the sudden gusts of wind.

“What’s wrong?” Hong and Thunder God asked mentally.

“There are fifty more adventurers ahead,” Luo Feng frowned.

“What?!”

“Change direction again!” Luo Feng ordered directly. The team changed course once more.

The five Earthlings flew low over the grassland again, but in the blink of an eye, a group of dark shadows suddenly shot into the sky from the distant grassland. At the same time, another group flew in from a different direction. Six groups in total rose into the air, all converging on Luo Feng’s team.

“Three hundred people! Six groups of fifty each!” Thunder God’s eyes widened.

“Run!” Luo Feng barked.

Boom!

Aogu grabbed Thunder God and Hong, while Luo Feng and Tienanhe accelerated to their maximum speed.

“They’re faster than us!” Thunder God urgently transmitted mentally.

“This is bad,” Hong also panicked.

Luo Feng glanced at the screen on his bracer. On the display, 300 dots were chasing five others. Clearly, these 300 people were coordinated and under unified command. They spread out in a fan formation. If the team flew into their trap, they would be surrounded and swallowed whole like dumplings.

“Luofeng, they’re faster than you.”

“The front group consists of Stellar-Level Ninth Stage Mentallists riding mental-force weapons. You only have one Mentalist, Aogu, who also has to carry Hong and Thunder God. At current speeds, they will catch up in 600 kilometers,” Babata’s voice echoed in Luo Feng’s mind.

Six hundred kilometers?

At their current speed, that distance was nothing.

“They’re getting closer!” Thunder God urged.

“Follow me!” Luo Feng transmitted mentally.

Five streaks of light curved through the sky, fleeing into the distance. Behind them, a dense swarm of 300 streaks pursued relentlessly. The fastest among them were the Mentallists riding their mental-force weapons, while the warriors lagged slightly behind, mainly protecting the elites.

“Master, they’re about to catch up!” Aogu transmitted.

“I’ll just carry the master,” Aogu said. In Aogu and Tienanhe’s eyes, they only recognized Luo Feng as their master. In a critical moment, they naturally had to protect him.

Luo Feng’s eyes locked onto the horizon. Ahead was a vast forest bordering the grassland.

“There!”

“Down!” Luo Feng ordered mentally.

The five dove down and plunged into the forest.

The 300 streaks of light surged down after them… several minutes later, the 300 figures gathered above the forest.

“Captain.”

“Stop the chase,” a cold young man in silver armor and black boots ordered, his lips pale. “The forest is too large. If they hide inside, we won’t find them easily. Besides, a five-man team probably didn’t get much Galactic Crystal. Return to the grasslands and continue hunting.”

“Yes.”

The 300 streaks of light quickly retreated.

In the forest.

Luo Feng and his team let out a collective sigh of relief.

“Good thing we made it into the forest,” Thunder God exhaled.

“In the forest, we have the advantage,” Hong nodded slightly. The dense trees made hiding easier, and Luo Feng’s detection equipment was especially useful now.

“Thankfully we ran fast. Otherwise, we’d have been done for,” Luo Feng chuckled. If they had been a little slower, he would have had to deploy the Gold-Horned Giant Beast! But if that happened, the news of the Gold-Horned Giant Beast in the ‘Inner Realm’ would quickly spread.

A Stellar-Level Ninth Stage Gold-Horned Colossus was undoubtedly still in its juvenile phase, yet even so, it could draw the gaze of Immortal-Level powerhouses!

Once that happened, the entrance to the Thunder World would be watched closely, turning it into a trap. Luo Feng would have nowhere to run!

“If I use the Gold-Horned Giant Beast, it must be at night, and once used, I must eliminate the enemy completely. Absolutely no chance for them to send news outside,” Luo Feng thought.

“Third Son, the grasslands make hiding difficult. Even a slight increase in speed would stir the grass with wind, making ambushers notice,” Thunder God said.

“The grasslands and plains are dangerous,” Hong nodded.

“Let’s proceed through the forest then. It won’t add much detour,” Luo Feng agreed.

However, the closer they approached the center, the denser the adventurer groups became. On this seventh day alone, Luo Feng’s team had already encountered three groups, two of which were over a hundred strong! Facing such large groups, Luo Feng dared not confront them directly, as a chaotic battle might result in casualties.

On the seventh day.

Luo Feng’s team had been moving through the forest for about eight hours. The white light orb in the sky had dimmed.

About 120 kilometers from Luo Feng’s team.

At the top of a thick, towering tree in the forest, three figures hovered hidden among the leaves. They held observation devices, watching from above.

“Captain,” one of them lowered his head to look below.

At the base of the thick tree, twelve others rested.

“Hmm?” A muscular green-skinned man wearing dark alloy armor and a giant axe on his back, his face marked with strange tattoos, frowned and looked up.

“There’s prey. Five of them,” the scout above reported.

“Oh?”

The captain immediately shot upward, hovering among the leaves. He borrowed a telescope from the scout. Devices like telescopes were standard equipment for adventurers. In many places in the cosmos with strong gravity or magnetic fields, even mental powers could be affected. In such cases, the naked eye or auxiliary devices like telescopes became useful.

“Five people?” The captain looked through the telescope. With his already exceptional vision, guided by the scout, he soon spotted five figures occasionally emerging from the dense forest.

“Get up. Prepare to attack,” the captain transmitted mentally.

Whoosh!

The team members below quickly rose to their feet.

“Captain, how strong are the targets?”

“Don’t worry. Only five people. They can’t be that strong,” the captain said. These words immediately brought smiles to the faces of the team members. They loved ambushes like this—low risk, high reward. Those who arrived early in the Inner Realm and survived the initial chaos all had some wealth.

Hundreds of Galactic Crystals were common.

Outside, hundreds of Galactic Crystals could buy an entire spaceship of Stellar-Level Ninth Stage slaves!

“One last push, and we’ll be rich for generations,” many of the team members, who had little hope of breaking through to the Cosmic Level, dreamed of gaining great wealth to enjoy life and raise their descendants.

“Quick, be careful. Don’t let the five fat lambs notice us. If they escape in the forest, it will be hard to find them again.”

“Be careful.”

“Approaching twenty kilometers.”

“Ten kilometers.”

“Five kilometers.”

“Everyone, get ready… Attack!”

The fifteen-man hunting team instantly burst from behind trees or dense foliage. They accelerated to their maximum speed, streaking like lightning toward Luo Feng’s team.

“Whoosh!”

A streak of blue light flashed, moving at incredible speed. In the blink of an eye, it sliced through thirteen advancing figures, cleanly severing their heads. Blood and brains splattered. The blue light curved slightly, then swept over the two elites, including the green-skinned captain. The captain’s eyes widened in terror, clearly not expecting the five fragile lambs to suddenly turn into vicious wolves.

“Master, all eliminated,” Aogu respectfully transmitted.

“Hmm,” Luo Feng nodded. He looked at the scattered corpses around—fifteen in total. At a distance of twenty kilometers, he had already detected them.

Upon scanning, thirteen of the fifteen were Stellar-Level Ninth Stage. Luo Feng naturally did not flee but instead decided to eliminate them.

Although…

During the seven-day journey from the periphery to the core, they had encountered many ambushes. Most of the time, they evaded. But there were six occasions when Luo Feng’s team turned the tables and eliminated the ambushers. With Aogu and the ‘Crimson Chaos Bronze Mother Fragment’, as long as the enemy numbered no more than twenty Stellar-Level Ninth Stage warriors, they could be completely wiped out.

“Check them. How many Galactic Crystals do they have?” Luo Feng quickly began searching the corpses.
