Chapter 61: Human Lives Can Also Be Bought

Lu Yu didn’t know who Canghai was.

But when Canghai’s killing intent stirred, they were very much alike.

That was why Lu Yu could tell Canghai was about to kill someone.

“Heh!” Canghai glanced at the crowd and said, “I’m tired of killing. If they had a bit of sense, I might spare them. But—”

Canghai’s expression suddenly turned cold as he continued, “If they don’t know how to appreciate mercy, I wouldn’t mind seeing a few more dead.”

As Canghai spoke, a few people from the crowd had already started walking toward them.

Lu Yu merely glanced briefly, but fixed his gaze on the shortest youth at the very edge.

These were four young men.

All four carried star weapons on their backs and at their waists.

One of them wore a golden chain, his shirt open, revealing his bony chest as he tried to act like a tough guy.

“They came through the same rift,” Canghai whispered, “See that thin one over there?”

He pointed at the far-left, a skinny, dark-skinned youth who seemed the least noticeable, and said, “That one is the most dangerous.”

Lu Yu nodded. He had been watching that youth too. The youth was barely over five feet tall, dark and thin, with deep-set eyes.

Looking at him, there was something sinister about him, something unsettling.

The young men approached, looking at Canghai, then briefly glanced at Lu Yu.

One of the youths looked sideways at Canghai and said, “So you’re Canghai? We just discussed something—we don’t need your involvement, right?”

They completely ignored Lu Yu, treating him as if he wasn’t even there.

Surprisingly, Canghai’s usually icy face broke into a smile and he said, “Does the rule not work for you?”

The youth who had spoken first suddenly raised his voice, shrieking, “Of course not! Why should we only trade with star crystals?”

Another young man chimed in, “Exactly. How we trade is our freedom. Why must we follow your rule?”

Canghai replied calmly, “Everyone, I simply don’t want to see trash here. That’s why I set the rule to trade only with star crystals—to ensure everyone here sees only premium and top-tier items, not ordinary stuff.”

The leading youth immediately retorted, “As long as the other party agrees, what’s wrong with using anything else? Can’t I buy good things with star pearls or mutated star pearls too?”

“That’s not necessarily true,” Lu Yu interjected, “You managed to get in here, so you should understand how harsh the mining conditions for star crystals are. Do you know how much star crystals your mine produces in a day? Tell me, do you have more star pearls or more star crystals in your hands?”

Chen Zhenglong, hearing Lu Yu’s words, became unhappy and snapped, “Who the hell are you? This doesn’t concern you.”

“How doesn’t it concern me?” Lu Yu replied, “A few days ago, I discussed these trading rules with Canghai. If you want to change the rules, it definitely concerns me too, right?”

“Oh, so you’re involved too,” Chen Zhenglong finally gave Lu Yu a proper glance and said, “That’s exactly why I think the rule is bad. Star crystals are precious, and not everyone is willing to trade with them. That’s why I don’t see why we must use star crystals for trading when star pearls work just fine.”

Lu Yu smiled and said, “You don’t want to waste star crystals because you know how valuable they are—don’t I know that too? If I had a good item to sell, would I choose to sell it for star pearls whenever I could mine more, or would I prefer star crystals?”

Chen Zhenglong realized he had been caught in a verbal trap and retorted stubbornly, “Whatever, I said I want to trade however I like. That’s my freedom, nothing to do with you two.”

Canghai stared at the youth who had spoken first, smiling, “I heard them call you Chen Zhenglong, right? Now I’m telling you, I set the rules here. If you don’t like it, go trade elsewhere. But here, I hope you all follow the rules.”

“Without rules, nothing can be achieved,” another youth stood up straight, turned to look at the people behind him, and said, “But why should the rules be decided by you? Everyone is here, so we should listen to everyone’s opinion.”

These few clearly weren’t going to listen to anything.

They were clearly here to cause trouble.

Lu Yu, standing aside, took a breath and said with a smile, “Alright then, you insist on trading with star pearls, right? Fine, I just happen to have something I want to sell today. I’ll sell it to you. If you can afford the price, I’ll give it to you for free. You can change the rules however you like, okay? But if you can’t buy it, then you must follow the rules, right? However—”

As Lu Yu continued, his tone suddenly turned cold, “If you lose and still refuse to admit it, don’t blame me for being ruthless.”

As Lu Yu finished speaking, the crowd nearby immediately gathered around.

They weren’t interested in betting. But everyone standing here had at least dozens of star crystals and countless star pearls.

If even that wasn’t enough to buy it, what kind of item could it be?

“Fine. I already said I can use whatever I want,” Chen Zhenglong wasn’t stupid either. His eyes flickered as he continued, “Like, if I don’t have enough star crystals, I can use other items instead. The same applies the other way around.”

“Agreed,” Lu Yu nodded.

It seemed the cities hadn’t connected yet, so the exchange methods still varied. From Chen Zhenglong’s expression, Lu Yu guessed the value of star crystals in their city was even lower.

Probably because the mine wasn’t operated by a single person, but by a group. Because of that, many people were selling, which caused the price of star crystals to drop.

Lu Yu didn’t care. He pulled out Liu Heng’s short sword from his chest and tossed it to Chen Zhenglong, saying, “Tell me how much you think it’s worth?”

Chen Zhenglong caught the short sword and smiled as he looked at it.

Their father controlled a star crystal mine—how could they possibly not afford a star weapon?

But after looking at it, Chen Zhenglong’s expression immediately changed.

“Ten thousand star pearls. Can you afford it?” Lu Yu sneered.

“What? Ten thousand star pearls?” Canghai was also surprised beside him.

“What kind of star weapon is this? So expensive?”

Chen Zhenglong’s companions were also shocked and quickly gathered around.

Lu Yu coldly said, “Ten thousand star pearls—that’s two hundred and fifty star crystals. I don’t care what you use to trade. If you can bring the money now, you win. If not, then follow the rules quietly.”

“This weapon isn’t worth ten thousand star pearls at all,” Chen Zhenglong tightly gripped the star weapon, laughing, “Who do you think you’re fooling?”

“Exactly, it’s not worth that much,” one of the youths greedily said, “I think a thousand star pearls would be fair.”

“I have a thousand star pearls right here,” Chen Zhenglong took out a bag from his backpack and poured out a pile of star pearls, saying, “See this? This is a thousand star pearls. According to the rules, I can afford it, so this star weapon is mine for free.”

Saying that, Chen Zhenglong quickly stuffed the star weapon into his chest.

At once, the surrounding crowd let out some disdainful snickers.

Some people were even disgusted by their behavior.

Others were shocked.

Judging from Chen Zhenglong and the others’ expressions, even if this weapon wasn’t worth two hundred and fifty star crystals, it couldn’t be worth less than two hundred.

After putting the short sword away, Chen Zhenglong immediately stepped back.

Lu Yu seemed to have expected it all along and smiled, “What? Now you’re going to steal it after losing the bet?”

“Who said we lost?” Chen Zhenglong sneered, “It’s clearly worth exactly this price, and I can afford it.”

“I’m really sick of killing people, but not killing you and letting you live is even more sickening,” Canghai lightly shook his arms, his smile gradually turning sinister as he said, “I think we’ve said enough. Gentlemen, once you step outside, it’ll be your corpses.”

“Tsk tsk, so you lost and now you want to fight?” one of the youths said, pulling out his star weapon, “I’m not afraid of you at all.”

“Everyone saw it, they lost and now they want to start a fight,” another one pretended to be the victim, arrogantly shouting.

“We’re not afraid of you either. Four against two, we have the numbers.”

The young men shouted shamelessly without even blushing, their faces thicker than a city wall.

Whoever met such people could only spit and accept their bad luck.

“Killing you feels like dirtying my hands,” Lu Yu held Canghai’s shoulder, scanning Chen Zhenglong and the others with a cold smile, “But here, we only sell premium items. I believe that includes human lives, right?”

Upon hearing this, Canghai suddenly understood and lightly licked his lips, saying, “Right. Human lives can be quite valuable too.”

“Then, wouldn’t it be better to let them understand that this place only accepts star crystals for trade?”
