Chapter 115: Coping

As soon as Mu Lin spoke, the personal physician’s expression changed instantly, but he quickly regained his composure and remained silent. The bodyguard struggled briefly until clinic security pointed a gun at his head, after which he immediately calmed down. According to U country law, forcibly entering a private residence grants the homeowner the right to shoot and injure—or even kill—the intruder.

Mu Lin glanced around at the crowd, meeting eyes filled with confusion and doubt. Internally, he sighed. He then realized these people were all technically skilled professionals who rarely encountered the darker side of life. Given this, he decided there was no need to let them know more than necessary.

Turning to the four guards, Mu Lin ordered, “You four, check your shift records—find out who authorized these two individuals’ entry. Also, go inform your supervisor here. I am extremely dissatisfied with your company’s security work. Notify them that I am here now and require your assistance. In the next few days, I will need more personnel to protect my private property.” One of the guards nodded and quickly left.

“Where is the clinic’s secretary?” Mu Lin asked offhandedly. A middle-aged female secretary in her forties immediately stepped forward.

Mu Lin issued instructions: “You must immediately contact Douglas Law Firm and inform them that our clinic is currently facing a problem. Request that they send experienced criminal and medical lawyers here immediately. Do you understand? Immediately!” The secretary accepted the order and hurried off in a brisk jog.

Turning to Professor Wang and the others, Mu Lin said, “Teacher, could you please take these doctors back to the meeting room for now? Except for you teachers, no one else is allowed to leave the clinic without my permission. Teacher, I’ll have someone call you back upstairs later. I’ll explain everything that happened here at that time. Alright?” Though the elderly physicians had many questions for Mu Lin, seeing his determined expression, they felt it inappropriate to interrupt his handling of the situation further. They led the group back to the meeting room.

Everyone who received Mu Lin’s orders left. The room was now left only with Mu Lin, several guards, the two captives, and one patient who had already been given a sedative and was now asleep. Without Mu Lin’s instructions, none of the guards dared to act on their own. The room was silent except for the sound of their breathing.

Soon, footsteps echoed from outside, and in walked the local representative from Best Security Company, the firm responsible for the clinic’s safety in Washington. Best Security was the largest security company in the U country, with branches across the nation, which was why Mu Lin had chosen them to handle security for his clinics nationwide. At present, Mu Lin was one of their most important clients. Upon entering, the man immediately grasped both of Mu Lin’s hands and apologized repeatedly, “I’m terribly sorry, Mr. Daniel. Due to a flaw in our security procedures, we’ve caused you trouble. I sincerely apologize! Furthermore, we’ve already reported this incident to our headquarters and instructed all branches nationwide to remain vigilant to prevent such situations from recurring!”

Hearing the apology, Mu Lin felt a slight sense of relief. In everyday social settings, apologies were common. However, when problems arose, those three words were not easily uttered. In Western culture, an apology often meant accepting full responsibility for the mistake. Sometimes, even when they knew they were wrong, people preferred to wait for legal proceedings, only saying “I’m sorry” after the court’s ruling.

“I am Eugene Hopfess, Best Security’s Washington representative. You can just call me Eugene. I’ve already dispatched the remaining 130 available personnel from our company to report here at the clinic and await your instructions,” the man continued after sitting down.

“Thank you, Mr. Eugene. This situation was completely unexpected for both your company and us. We are requesting additional personnel in case the clinic is attacked again—an outcome neither your company nor we would wish for. Additionally, I ask you to command your personnel to heighten vigilance. Until your investigation report is submitted to me, I do not want anyone from the clinic leaving at will, nor do I want any unauthorized individuals entering the premises,” Mu Lin said, his tone gradually turning stricter. In his view, the incident had occurred partly due to negligence by the security personnel.

As Eugene rose to leave, Mu Lin suddenly remembered something else, “Wait, Mr. Eugene. Douglas Law Firm’s lawyers will soon arrive. Please arrange for someone to escort them directly here. Also, keep me promptly informed regarding the investigation into the matters I mentioned earlier.”

“Of course, sir! I believe the investigation results you requested should be ready within fifteen minutes,” Eugene replied and hurried out.

Approximately ten minutes later, Eugene returned to the room where Mu Lin was waiting, holding a stack of papers and reporting, “Mr. Daniel, after our investigation and verification, we found that these two individuals were originally brought in by Dr. Hoover, a clinical physician employed at the clinic. He requested our security guards to allow them entry under the pretense of job interviews. Due to our guards’ negligence, they failed to confirm with the clinic and allowed the two to enter since they were accompanied by a clinic staff member. These two subsequently entered the clinic multiple times using forged clinic identification. Here are the records of their entries. Furthermore, our investigation revealed that Dr. Hoover has been on leave and hasn’t come to work recently. However, complete surveillance footage remains in the monitoring room, recording every instance of their entry and exit. Would you like to view it now?”

“I’m afraid I don’t have time right now. Thank you, Mr. Eugene. You’ve done a great job, and I’m satisfied,” Mu Lin said, his tone softening as his mind eased slightly.

“It’s my pleasure, sir! As you command!” Eugene saluted and quickly left again.

Mu Lin turned to the two captives, saying, “Gentlemen, you’ve seen everything. Do you have anything to explain or clarify to me?”

The two remained silent, not even glancing at Mu Lin. However, from their increasingly heavy breathing, Mu Lin sensed their inner fear.

Just then, the secretary entered to report, “The eight lawyers from Douglas Law Firm have arrived at the clinic and are waiting outside now.” Mu Lin was delighted—everyone he needed had arrived. He instructed the secretary, “Immediately show the lawyers in. At the same time, contact the police station and report that our clinic has apprehended two intruders who attempted to illegally enter and damage the clinic’s reputation. Also, notify the press to come for interviews!”
